I think that just adds layers to it. The fight is not over directly relates to the history of these two. O’Ren started this fight, but now the Bride gets to finish it
I think what really makes this fight, for me at least, is that, in a way, O-Ren isn't afraid of Kiddo because O-Ren believes that she is all that superior. Both woman are incredibly strong. But O-Ren, more than anyone in the film, understands the power and desperation of revenge, as she killed the man who murdered her parents when she was at a very young age. I think that when she saw Kiddo for the first time in four years, she knew that it was revenge that brought Kiddo to her.

Would totally watch a movie following O-Ren's rise in the yakuza, or when she worked together with Beatrix.
For those interested in some theory, a response I posted to someone's comment on another video: The idea about honor is nice. I always thought that O-Ren allowed Beatrix to get up because killing her in a fashion similar to how she killed Matsumoto is beneath her. If you pay attention, every one of O-Ren's kills since Matsumoto has shown her either decapitating or headshotting her targets. When O-Ren said "Silly Caucasian girl who likes to play with samurai swords. You may not be able to fight like a samurai, but you can at least die like a samurai." To me, this is what decided the fight. It is a loaded piece of monologue for multiple reasons: 1. If what I am saying is correct and O-Ren believes that killing any other way that decapitation is evidence for lack of skill then we can understand why O-Ren did not kill Beatrix on the ground. 2. Per an interview with Lucy Liu on her role in Kill Bill and the script for Kill Bill, we find out that O-Ren has always wanted a Hanzo, but was rejected when she tried to obtain one. O-Ren took this rejection as a personal insult, but as we find out from Beatrix's encounter with Hanzo, Hattori took an oath to never forge or give away another weapon. Upon finding out that Beatrix possessed a Hanzo, O-Ren likely felt insulted and this is the cause of the insult that she said to Beatrix. Referring to (1), Beatrix slaughtered her guards, true, but not in any organized manner. Beatrix cut people in half and tore out their eyes -- this is not the mark of a warrior who should be wielding a Hanzo, it is the work of a "Silly Caucasian girl who likes to play with samurai swords." Little did O-Ren know, Beatrix was not granted a Hanzo due to remarkable skills but rather because Hanzo felt an obligation to help right a wrong he felt he made possible (he trained Bill). 3. As I referenced in (2), the original script for Kill Bill is available to the public, you need only google "Kill Bill script" to find it. In the script, we find that both Beatrix, along with Bill, inducted O-Ren Ishii into the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. This is very crucial information, as it was at age 20 that O-Ren was one of the greatest assassins in the world (per Beatrix's narration) but it was not until age 23 that O-Ren joined the squad. O-Ren already had a reputation upon her induction, and it is with that notoriety that the words, "but you can at least die like a samurai" result in the death of O-Ren. In essence, what O-Ren said was, "I am not going to lower myself by killing like you, instead I will collect your head as a mark of superiority." It is at that point that Beatrix put herself one step ahead -- she knew O-Ren's next move. As you can see when the fight resumes, O-Ren is cut after she attempts to behead Beatrix, and Beatrix having correctly predicted O-Ren's killing pattern was able to score a hit and limit Cottonmouth's mobility. This was a fight between old comrades and was not a fight Beatrix could simply power her way through. It almost seems as though the Hanzo sword was a requisite for O-Ren's death. Even if Beatrix managed to get through the Crazy 88 with another sword, the psychological trigger that pushed O-Ren to reveal her cards would be unaccounted for. Also, the killing blow in this fight was a toss-up between a 360-degree decapitation vs a 180-degree slash through the skull, decided by the quality of the weapons in use.
Absolutely beautiful dissection, a true attention to detail. To be honest, I did not realize that O ren went for the head as her final attack, but extremely fitting (for the multitude of reasons you listed) truly an exceptional film, and what a final showdown. Quick, flashy but not over the top, very real, and very brutal
For anyone wondering the sound at 0:15 when she spots Sofie is from the old TV show Ironside, it plays in the opening credits. also in this movie with the "crazy red eyes".
2:15 Love that bit of Orans face. The queen of the underworld who seemed like her whole life unbothered after the murder of her parents. She saw her own death walked into that room on her happiest time. Lucy n Uma did a hell of a job on their roll. Wish she was second last to face, but the bride got the hard stuff out the way first.
She should have told Elle they have unfinished business while Beatrix and Elle have their stare off Beatrix flashback to what the vipers did to her and the music plays in the background.
1:41 is really what sells this cene to me. Knowing O-Rens backstory, she doesn't fear anyone or anything. To see her holding back how scared/horrified she is really shows what a threat Beatrix is.
Oh man I remembered watching this the first time and I was left speechless. The way she screamed, “you and I have unfinished business” sent chills down my spine. I just wish I saw it in theaters. I wonder what that would have been like
I saw it in the theaters. About 1 min into the movie the main character gets a bullet through her skull! I looked at my friend, "Damn, . . . short movie."
The greatness in this entire scene is where the fun, music and Japanese quirkiness ends and the audience is reminded of why we’re here in the first place. The music when O-ren is called out and Sophie gets her arm chopped off makes me feel like I’m in the jungle. It’s so animalistic compared to the fun earlier in the scene.
Beatrix was like "Oh...so you're just going to chill in the back and talk on your phone while I get my pregnant ass jumped and my fiance and friends lay dead on the floor? Gimme yo arm bitch!" lol
O-Ren spent some of her life pursuing then brutally killing the man who killed her mother and father. She is no stranger to revenge and vengeance and knows how it makes people. O-Ren and Beatrix aren't too different and Beatrix seems to know the most about O-Ren knowing her entire life's story. This was the second most personal fight for Beatrix besides Bill himself.
For whole the time thought it was in Japanese 😅 He'll be comin' down the mountains He'll be comin' down the mountains He'll be drivin' all his hatred He'll be drivin' all his hatred Who'll be the first to test his gun Who'll be the last to see the ground And when appeased will be his hatred And when complete will be his revenge Who had put flowers on your grave There is no way out for you, men And also for you who always have won comes The moment of truth comes... The moment of truth comes...
Julie Dreyfus did a great job screaming because her arm was cut off. It made me cringe listening to it. Everyone in this movie did a great job showing pain and were not afraid to look ugly doing it if they needed to.
Yuuki Hyuuga sweetie, they look poker-faced and relaxed with the gum. I don't smell fear in them.....Oren's perhaps displaying too much boldness with her upright posture as she is walking...
Still one of the best female-centric action thrillers ever made. I cannot believe that Tarantino has never done a superhero movie (although _Kill Bill_ has all the elements of the best superhero narratives).
I love EVERYTHING about this scene. The music building to a crescendo, the business owners placating & being humiliated by Oren Ishii’s entourage, every actor here is exactly on point & they're all wonderful, the costumes that all seem like homages to various American, French & Japanese films, the gorgeous set so perfect for a dance floor & then a massive martial arts battle. The zooms to the eyes, the two beautiful women in the middle of so much death, the exaggerated martial arts sound effects. All of it works!! I've always felt, more than any other Tarantino film, that Kill Bill One is about the pure kinetic thrill of cinema without almost anything else being involved
Every time Beatrix calls O-Ren out that gives me chills. I wonder if O-Ren recognized Beatrix's voice after all these years, because her face was like "WTF? Who is this calling me?" Just for a second. And the timing is so perfect, Beatrix make everyone shut up with this one line. Look closely at O-Ren's lips in 1:28 she says the bride's first name "Beatrix." At the moment she saw her, she knew exactly why she is there without a doubt. Cutting Sofie's arm like that shocked even me, and I am not easily shocked. I love how even the body guards are shocked and pissed, they probably saw Sofie as a family by now and wanted to protect her too. I like that O-Ren had some logic and decency to send Charlie Brown away. He is innocent after all. And then a moment later sending a body guard to die, instead of fighting Beatrix by herself right there and then.
No you are mistaken. She did not send Charlie Brown because she cared about his innocence or something. She gladly sacrificed Crazy88 for a chance to beat a tired Beatrix in 1vs 1. She did that because the owner of this establishment was loyal to her... Hence she switched off lights to give Crazy88 a chance to win.... Charlie Brown here was an employee aka an uncertain factor. If you are fighting a life or death battle, you minimize uncertain factors.... And yes O-Ren was that crafty it was shown in the anime part of the film telling her life story....
@@bakairosan4126 Yeah but I was not completely wrong. Charlie Brown was innocent and had nothing to do with all of that. Even if he knew what O-Ren is all about to some extant, he still didn't deserve to die there and it was the right decision to let him go. At least on that- Do we agree?
If you're wondering what song is plays as soon as Beatrice calls out oren ishii its called Death Rides a Horse composed by the legendary ennio morricone
Just a little tid bit if people didn't notice or noticed but couldn't join the dots. The scene where she calls ORen is showing only her lips and the background is purple. Purple is the representation of snake venom/ poison in this case. Remember how all their code names are snake names and the Heroine's is Black Mamba. So, the scene represents her words are full of her venomous vengeance that befalls O'Ren , GoGo n the Crazy 88 after this.
Ohhh daysz, Oren....she's just the villainess in white. Ha! Her possy walking in was sick! Love the track when Beatrix is on her motorbike before going into the tunnel.... :)
So much to say about this fuckin scene it's ridiculous!!!! Loooove When she calls out to Oren bold asf ready to battle and did it in her language to make it absolutely clear her purpose! Her cutting Sophie's arm to let everyone know she meant business. The look in Oren's eyes when her name is first called and when she first sees Beatrix...the song... everything!!!!!!!! Oren recognized that same revenge in Beatrix that she herself had as a child and knew shit was goonna get real. Beatrix knew exactly how many people she had to go up against and still showed up! Its subtle but that had Oren shook 😂😂
To me, it's the crowd fleeing as she walks looking straight to her foe. Like "See these people running away? That's something you can't do now. I'm here, bitch. Let's finish it." 2:01

The idea about honor is nice.
You may not be able to fight like a samurai, but you can at least die like a samurai."
To me, this is what decided the fight. It is a loaded piece of monologue for multiple reasons:
This essay shows the amount of attention and zealotry we heap on Tarantino films.
@@elmoblatch9787 taken as a compliment
Absolutely beautiful dissection, a true attention to detail. To be honest, I did not realize that O ren went for the head as her final attack, but extremely fitting (for the multitude of reasons you listed) truly an exceptional film, and what a final showdown. Quick, flashy but not over the top, very real, and very brutal
damn, this is by far, the most exquisite comment I've ever read.
@@Spikastru I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
She says ''Beatrix''. The Brides real name is censored in vol. 1
I saw Vol. 1 seven times in the theatre. I loved it that much. Couldn't get enough of it.
For anyone wondering the sound at 0:15 when she spots Sofie is from the old TV show Ironside, it plays in the opening credits. also in this movie with the "crazy red eyes".
One of the spectacular badass moments ever I've seen. The music, blood... Just brilliant. Tarantino 😍
I love how the only thing you can hear after she yells “O'Ren Ishii” is Ennio Morricone's beautiful music
Quentin captures the emotion of 2 humans eyes locked in combat, looks and expressions mean a thousand words.
Sofie casually talking on the phone and laughing while Beatrix is beaten bloody.
I love this part. Sofie sooo got what she deserved.
Such elegance when the bride cuts her arm off. BEAUTIFUL...
1:20 and 1:56
This still gives me *GOOSEBUMPS*
What ıs song ?

You know, if she or any of her subordinates had even a small hand gun, they could've saved themselves a tremendous amount of stress.
Number 2 tried that, it didn't work.
Handguns in city limits....without a permit....that ain't legal either, dude.
Guns? That would just make the bride angrier!
Insight 1318 even the immortal Bruce Lee understands that guns settle everything...
What would have been the honor in that?
Don't feel bad for the Charlie Brown guy. He got to leave with his life. And all his limbs. Unlike the other fools.
She wouldnt have killed him wither way he just works there he's not part of the crazy 88's
He’s totally an innocent - just works for that place & never a threat
Give Ennio Morricone a raise and a half. Stunning soundtrack

Beatrix said the phrase to all vipers right? "You and i have unfinished business"?
@@divanshukumarmahajan4803 just because she didnt kill buddy, and also because "bitch, you have no future" sounds better before making elle blind
She should have told Elle they have unfinished business while Beatrix and Elle have their stare off Beatrix flashback to what the vipers did to her and the music plays in the background.
Well, Budd shot her before she could say much and then Elle killed Budd. She never did say it to Elle though.
Only to the ones that she killed
1:41 is really what sells this cene to me. Knowing O-Rens backstory, she doesn't fear anyone or anything. To see her holding back how scared/horrified she is really shows what a threat Beatrix is.
Song name: Death Rides A Horse Theme (Ennio Morricone)
Oh man I remembered watching this the first time and I was left speechless. The way she screamed, “you and I have unfinished business” sent chills down my spine.
I just wish I saw it in theaters. I wonder what that would have been like
I saw it in the theaters. About 1 min into the movie the main character gets a bullet through her skull! I looked at my friend, "Damn, . . . short movie."
I absolutely love the music in this film. It creates so much intensity and amplifies the sword fights and lust for revenge.
0:52 O-ren in her mind is all like...”is that death calling me”
I just realized her shoes say "Fuck U" lol
No, you watched that on a video pointing out Easter eggs, and THEN came here to watch this.
Brian Merritt or he simply paused the video at the right moment to read what was written? easier to do
Nah.
0:55 Chills every time I hear her say that phrase that way
O-Ren Ishii... Shoubu ha mada tsuichainai yo.
She wouldn't turn her cell-phone off during a wedding.
Not Cthulhu 😂
Beatrix was like "Oh...so you're just going to chill in the back and talk on your phone while I get my pregnant ass jumped and my fiance and friends lay dead on the floor? Gimme yo arm bitch!" lol
Moshi moshi
She had it coming really
Her phone got her to lose her fucking arm
O-Ren spent some of her life pursuing then brutally killing the man who killed her mother and father. She is no stranger to revenge and vengeance and knows how it makes people. O-Ren and Beatrix aren't too different and Beatrix seems to know the most about O-Ren knowing her entire life's story. This was the second most personal fight for Beatrix besides Bill himself.
She said "Beatrix" Which is the Brides first name.
The amount of times I've rewatched this movie is unhealthy lol
For whole the time thought it was in Japanese 😅

Just perfect for the moment
shit yes....now i realise if you sing it with a spanish accent even english sounds like japanese gosh
Julie Dreyfus did a great job screaming because her arm was cut off. It made me cringe listening to it. Everyone in this movie did a great job showing pain and were not afraid to look ugly doing it if they needed to.
@@RichardTater Lucy Lu nailed her expression of surprised and an inch of fear in her eyes once she saw B****** K***.
she also did a good job of speaking Japanese, better than O-ren, and so more than Beatrix...
angel91485 oh yeah, she actually speaks japanese and french
angel91485 she was a japanese speaking instructor
one of the best moments in cinematic history
Her bodyguards (all but GogoSan) are shitting themselves as she walks closer xD haha
So is O-Ren. The fear is palatable.
Lol x3
Yuuki Hyuuga sweetie, they look poker-faced and relaxed with the gum. I don't smell fear in them.....Oren's perhaps displaying too much boldness with her upright posture as she is walking...
Seriously? When they come out they look brave but when she walks closer they look scared
no gogo is probably Bella high
I love these "Oh, they're coming!" scenes in Tarantino's movies. That stare of death The Bride gives O-Ren is so good!
Lucy Liu is my celebrity crush.
I love when she calls for her... I get chills everytime

That music damn....😍 It just elevates the intensity...
Ennio 's magic 👍🔥
This is the opening of what must surely be my favorite scene in any movie. As usual, Tarantino's choice of music was right on.
1:22 man her eyes are full of pure anger and desires for revenge!!!!! Amazing scene!!!!
I love it when she called O-Ren. And i love it when O-Ren says "Charlie Brown.."
0:02 if only she changed her ringtone after all these years lol
Right? 5 years with the same damn phone and ringtone lol.
lol i havent changed mine in years, might as well have after this
That must be a hell of feeling looking in to eyes of someone that you killed 😱😱🥶🥶🥶
Mike Michel someone you “thought” you had killed
CHARRRI BRANJA!!!
One of the greatest moments of cinema of all time.
Still one of the best female-centric action thrillers ever made. I cannot believe that Tarantino has never done a superhero movie (although _Kill Bill_ has all the elements of the best superhero narratives).
This Is a superhero movie. Its just an adult superhero movie.
No movie scene will ever blow me away during my first watch like this one did. Absolute masterpiece to this day. So fucking cool.
Ennio Morricone, RIP great music master
Its a heargasm when Kiddo calls out to o'ren, i could hear it all day long.
I always had a crush on Sophie
If you're wondering what song is plays as soon as Beatrice calls out oren ishii its called Death Rides a Horse composed by the legendary ennio morricone
God, this movie is so fuckin siick
I bought the soundtrack to Kill Bill vol.1 and my only disappointment was "Death Rides A Horse" wasn't included.
thank you! finally found this music "Death Rides A Horse"
Awesome scene. Like death itself coming for O-Ren. The fear is there, before the bravado returns.
This is my favorite part of this movie.
Beautiful catch!
I can only imagine the fear of Oren and tension in the room when she came from behind Sophie she knew what time it was.
It was that moment….O-Ren knew she fucked up.😂
The music is... incredible ! Just Quentin Tarantino can do it. He's the best
Ohhh daysz, Oren....she's just the villainess in white.
Ha! Her possy walking in was sick! Love the track when Beatrix is on her motorbike before going into the tunnel.... :)
0:53 When you tried to call your Japanese classmate after studied from language school.
The soundtrack is perfect
In that moment, you knew, You Fucked Up.
1:40 A cure for high blood pressure 😆
To me, it's the crowd fleeing as she walks looking straight to her foe. Like "See these people running away? That's something you can't do now. I'm here, bitch. Let's finish it." 2:01
