Listen. He'll never fight for the championship as long as Max Verstappen is there. Did it ever occur to you why Ricciardo left them? The team is built around Verstappen and they're fully focused behind him. Perez was hired to be a *back-up* to Verstappen and to do a better job than Albon. Also because Red Bull had no more Red Bull academy drivers to promote to the driving seat after burning through Gasly and Albon in mere two seasons.
"I really hope he can maintain consistency in his performances" Well, I'm not sure which races you've been watching but he failed qualifying at Bahrein and finished 5th. At Imola he spun during the safety car and then yet again during the race, and ended up *outside the points* . Some consistency. Red Bull aren't very forgiving. Fact is they want results fast or they'll throw you out. They make Ferrari look like saints. Not sure you noticed this at Red Bull before and how Kvyat was thrown out mid-season, Buemi and Vergne were never given a fair chance to prove themselves (but won titles in Formula E) and Ricciardo had enough and didn't re-sign despite the team wanting him to.
Don't get me wrong here. I'd be overjoyed if he beats Max Verstappen. But Red Bull will never allow that to happen. And to be fair, why would they gamble their title aspiration on anybody but Verstappen?
