    These 'Classic Steam Collection' video's are excellent. The narrator is engaging, informative & seems to have a genuine affinity to steam locos. Also, nice to hear the comments from the dedicated 'volunteers' who clearly LOVE what they are doing. Long may they remain doing so. 👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

      It's sad to think that 5 years after this was filmed 5051 would be withdrawn from traffic after it's boiler certificate expired. With 4079 now running & with Didcot having ceased any interest in running their locos on the mainline, I doubt we will see 5051 run again for a very very long time. Unless someone coughs up for it's overhaul and the equipment, but again gauging can be an issue for western locos.

      It's a shame that 7802's mainline ticket got cut short thanks to the new requirement where OTMR needed to be fitted to steam engines from the end of 2007 because had it not been brought in she could've kept running on the mainline until 2010 when it's ticket was then supposed to expire. Unless they can sort out a method of fitting ETCS to heritage steam traction especially to a loco that's light enough for the Cambrian network it's unlikely we'll see a manor on the mainline again.
      7808 would've been the most likely candidate because why overhaul an engine only for heritage line use when there are others about which can do that aswell, but now that Didcot have ceased any interest in mainline running it's unlikely 7808 will run again unless Didcot have a change of heart. And unless any of the other loco owning groups like Erlestoke Manor Fund decide to consider it again, very unlikely we'll see a manor on the mainline again.

      @@MasterMoyle know one of the it problems I had heard from the operational side of things with mainline steam is the requirements now that there is now a requirement for mainline steam locomotives must now be fitted with Airbrakes and TPWS as they are no longer allowed to use vacuum braking on the national network and problem with modifications with the ever changing clearences for mainline running

    • @MasterMoyle
      @MasterMoyle  2 роки тому +1

      TPWS we're aware needs to be fitted to steam locos but the fitment of air braking is only needed depending on the trains that a loco is to haul aswell as which train operating company runs the locos. DB Cargo and Locomotive Services Limited operate locos only with both air and vacuum brakes fitted as their footplate crews drive using air brakes, even the pullman stock are only air brake fitted.
      Vintage Trains don't operate air braked steam locos at all as their own fleet of locos (5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe & 7029 Clun Castle) are only vacuum fitted, they might operate dual braked steam locos but will run them using vacuum brakes. With West Coast Railways they also operate locos with only vacuum brakes fitted too. Carnforth's steam locos except for 34067 Tangmere & until it's recent withdrawal 6201 Princess Elizabeth only have vacuum brakes fitted, the reason 6201 & 34067 have air brakes fitted alongside vacuum brakes is because they're also used on the Northern Belle trains and the NB coaches are only air braked.

    As of 2023, 5051 is now stored inside the shed at Didcot awaiting an overhaul. Sad to think that 5 years after this was filmed 5051 would be withdrawn from service following the expiry of her boiler certificate. It's a real pity that 5051's now no longer running as it was a good mainline performer for Didcot and was certainly one of the best remembered castles to operate on the mainline excluding 7029 Clun Castle. She didn't really suit that Hawksworth tender as castle's look much better with Collett tenders, great that 5051's got a Collett tender now and has regained her original Drysllwyn Castle nameplates (wasn't really a fan of the engine being named Earl Bathurst).

      And some of 5051s old support crew still around as well
