In South Africa for more than 74 years we used reels made by Keith Palmer or KP, first they were turned out of solid wood and eventually fiberglass. These were a centre pin Scarborough reels with 2 bearings no brakes or gears. In the 50's and 60's some of the largest sharks weighing over 1000lbs were caught using their own custom turned wood reels in Durban whaling station from the shore. Due to apartheid most Indians could not afford the Penn 49A and still was the only reel used. KP reels was made in Bazely on the South Coast of KZN until his death and was closed down.
Love using a center pin sadly on the stretch of the Wensum where I fish it's full of fallen trees and bushes so nice glide swims etc. are not plentiful.
Hi Jurassics, there will be more trotting videos for sure. We did film a nice trotting video with Phil a couple of years back that might interest you? ua-cam.com/video/cjiK7YY6ciI/v-deo.html
Hi Keith, that is a ESP bait caddy. But I have recently upgraded to a Korda compac boilie caddy. The Korda is much better as it has a removable water proof insert. The ESP caddy would often get wet, making the maggots wet and causing them to float. www.anglingdirect.co.uk/korda-compac-boilie-fishing-caddy-with-insert?queryID=28b58e9e7abc2cc8f72ad4581742add3&objectID=82974&indexName=live_ad_uk_products Regards Phil,

It would be good to see a video of how to use an olivette and an explanation of which is better, bulk shot or olivette.

i only use a centerpin for all my fishing, mainly tench on the lift ,and had 18lb carp on it .great fun.
There's definitely something special about playing a big fish on a centrepin reel 💪

It was a cold day 🥶😆
Drag need 😢
You can give the fish line when using a centrepin reel by simply letting the reel spin backwards under tension using your hand.
