    I think it's a great product. Priority check-in - tick, Lounge - tick, priority boarding - tick, drink and meal - tick, First off the plane - Tick, not competing for space in the overhead locker - Tick. All for the price of an economy seat on another carrier. It's brilliant.

    brilliant video with just the right amount of Stewart Wisdom thrown in. Loved the tarmac shots at the end. Melbourne really does to paddock views on take off and landing better than any other Aussie airport.

    As the Cabin Crew manager, Sydney for Kendell Airlines in the 90's I'm proud to see our saab340 inflight service grow and be implemented on REX 737's. It was an unfulfilled dream to go to jet services as the RJ's came in at Kendell after I left. It's still sad to see Ansett terminals being used by others however it's kind of nice to have a percentage of Ansett still alive in the new REX 737 Service. I can't wait to fly with them.

    So pleased to find this! I’m going with Rex from Sydney to Brisbane next week, straight on from London-Sydney. They emailed me about bidding for in upgrade, which wasn’t something I’d heard of before, so now I’ve done it, just for fun! I hope I get lucky. I’m not an experienced flyer, lol!

    By the looks of it, the VA product in business is currently inferior to the REX product. At least with REX you get a welcome drink, you get a hot meal onboard. VA you get a snack box despite paying $400 to $700 one way for the seat. I liked the look of the REX business, once the wifi is up and going and their lounge food steps up a bit it will be great. Great review, thanks for sharing.

    What a refreshing change to see that there is no TV screen on the back of the seat in front. Some of the best short conversations I have ever had have been with the fellow passenger beside me. And wow, what a deal Rex has on that Biz Class package. The meal looked fantastic too. Thanks for showing us Paul.

    Perfect domestic premium service.
    I travelled on 2 domestic business class flights with Qantas in January 23, 1 lunch time 1 hour flight and one dinner time 3 hour flight. I wasn’t offered a boarding drink on either. Or a pre or post meal snack. And the hot meal offering was dismal on both flights. The only redeeming features were, the wine selection, the deserts and the A330 lay flat seat.
    I will definitely give REX Business a go on my next trip out of Melbourne if available.
    As far as the lounge goes, the Qantas business domestic lounge in Melbourne is flash, but the food offering was below my expectations, and the staff were not pleasant.

    You must have up half the night with all the editing !
    2 vlogs in 2 days !
    That meal looks pretty decent for a 1 hour flight during covid-19 !
    Like you , I can't drink red wine, so I saw no problem having a white wine with beef 😁.
    I am also glad there are no Max-8's in Australia, despite all the problems being "fixed", I dunno if I would trust it.
    But I do respect the 737s currently flying in Australia are ageing.
    That Antanov at Tullamarine, was really cool to see, so thanks for filming it.

    Two great videos Paul, as always. After the last year it's so f**king nice to see airlines expanding again and I wish them well.
    Being a thrifty northerner from the UK I love the bang per buck of that business class, even if not quite as good as the others. I thought it more than acceptable for that price.
    I want to watch your train video now, but my wife is throwing me out of the study for a zoom meeting, the sooner we all get back to normal the better ( travel, England beating Australia at cricket again, that sort of thing .... ) :)

    • @peterblackmore7560

      The American "first" class domestic service is mediocre. Right down to the "on odd number flights, we are starting service in first at the rear. By the time they get to the front, the only choice left is a crappy limp salad. Oh, and outside of normal meal times you only get the warm nuts and drinks. It makes Qantas look wonderful.

    I couldn't fly on the inaugural flight but did do business 2 days later. Compared to Virgin, at the moment, the inflight catering is certainly a lot better than the snack box you get on Virgin. as was the lounge with their choices of 3 unexciting sandwiches at Virgin. The lounge in Sydney I found to be relaxing and even had some views of planes. The staff were really great and friendly and I felt very welcome. I would definitely fly with them again.

    The Wi-Fi on Virgin aircraft isn't under the dome at the rear of the fuselage, that was for live TV back in the day. The Wi-Fi servers and antennas are inside the fuselage, under the floor. The reason Rex probably don't have it enabled yet is because you need to use an app to watch their media on your device and that app presumably isn't out yet.

    if they can keep this product at these levels sustainable, its going to be popular with small business ppl, and those who don't do much international travel typically and aren't on expense accounts. I wouldn't be surprised to see this cabin expanded. Go to 16 5 abreast rex and upgrade a few things (I know the lounges are planned) and you're on to a winner here. This will hurt Virgin more than anyone but Hyrdlicker isnt stupid she'll take this into consideration. Expect VA to drop their business class ticket prices and maybe rebrand it as some premium economy.

    Hi Paul. Looks like a great price for a decent product. If not being able to drink red wine makes you a child, then what does it say about me if I can’t drink white wine?

    Paul I reckon you enjoyed both hops. As you said business class for 5 times cheaper is a no brainier for 60 mins. How recent is Melbourne T4?

    I like the REX painting in their Melbourne lounge. REX business class fares will range from $300 to $606 each way depending of the type purchased between Sydney and Melbourne. The Virgin Australia's Economy X seats will be retained and will be refer to Rextra Legroom. When we are allowed to travel across the ditch, it looks a flight of REX is required ;)
    Did you see the guys from Executive Traveller. They will be ones with a camera and laptop taking photos and writing notes in J?

    I would agree with your summary - not as good as the other two but it's a lot cheaper. I wonder if they should have called in Premium Economy?

    what about an app and using it?
    As a tourist I would take the train to see as much as possible of Australia.
    Thank you, Paul, for sharing your video with us.

      You can buy an unlimited travel 'Discovery Pass' first class for periods ranging from 14 days to six months through NSW TrainLink's website that will get you from Melbourne to Sydney, Brisbane, Broken Hill, Canberra, Byron Bay on its network of XPT and XPLorer railcars and road coaches. Far better value than flying and you see a lot more. Trains are comfortable with a buffet car or section onboard. Sleeping berths (available to/from Melbourne, to Brisbane and from Casino, NSW) are an extra $88 per trip.

      @@edmundcarew7235 .Thank you very much for the information.
      The Discovy Pass is very convenient and the price are not so high.

      @@60frederick You can purchase online from anywhere in the world, and then have six months to 'validate' the pass which occurs when you are recorded by the train conductor on your first trip. (They use iPads on board). However if you are overseas, it's very difficult to travel to Australia at present due to the virus, so such an activity may have to wait.
      The A$550 six month pass is better value than the A$300 14 day pass but latter may suit some overseas travellers with limited time, or buy a month pass. Combine with a Rex flight one way if you want to cover even more rail lines, albeit some only one way not return. NSW TrainLink has a huge rail and coach network, and allows you to visit far more locations than by using airlines. The only long distance trains that are unreserved are the Sydney - Bathurst 'Bullets' (up to twice a day in each direction). V/Line has a similarly extensive rail and coach network in Victoria, but separate fares, and up in Queensland, Qld Rail has a less extensive, but still lengthy, rail network though trains can be less frequent.

    Very interesting. 07:10 But I wonder whether single use compostable / recyclable cutlery actually demonstrates “taking the environment seriously” ... is it better for the environment than metal cutlery that can be reused thousands of times? 🤔

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  3 роки тому

      I think that the argument is that the metal cutlery need to be washed with chemicals and consume electricity in the cleaning process...etc

    • @FromtheWindowSeat
      @FromtheWindowSeat 3 роки тому

      @@PaulStewartAviation Hmmm. Still not convinced. Electricity can be derived from renewable sources. The supply chains required for manufacturing, delivering and then disposing of wooden cutlery is considerable compared to metal cutlery which can be washed and returned within the airport surrounds. 🤓

      @PaulStewartAviation  3 роки тому +1

      @@FromtheWindowSeat you may be right and it's just cheaper to throw everything away although throwing away wood is seen as better than plastic. It would be disappointing if it was purely financial.

      @@PaulStewartAviation Well seeing they’re serving Adelaide from late March they had to choose wood as SA has just banned single use plastics. 😁

      You have to do a real world life cycle analysis of metal reusable cutlery in airlines vs sustainably sourced wood or bamboo. On average metal cutlery in a typical airline usage survives only 30 to 40 uses before getting lost in the "system" - not thousands of times as you would at home, then you have to consider the resources used in its manufacture, resources used in washing and transporting it (all that aggressive chemical detergent going into our waste water), the extra weight it adds to each aircraft (= more carbon emissions).. I can assure you the disposable options as long as not traditional plastic are equally good or better for the environment.
