I purchased a manual binder machine pretty cheep. There's a trick to using it consistency, but it does do a good job in turning PDFs into printed books. Having a printer with the duplex option is also very useful. I am fortunate that I have access to a Xerox at the office, though I tend to print in BW to save color ink. One of the issues with these binding machines would be that the upper limit on size (2 inches I believe) limits those larger PDFs to two binders instead of one. I have a couple that turned out that way.
The binder punch machine you have is very similar to mine, yours has a long handle and mine is on the side. I think I paid around $60 for mine. Which reminds me, I need to order more plastic covers
I used to edit artwork out of my print outs to save ink. But with the smart tank printer and the money I save I print the whole book cover to cover. I hated having to buy colored ink cartridges They always ran out at the worst time. Which is also the advantage of the printer I have now, you can see the ink levels, no guess work.

I found Wal-Mart to have the cheapest report covers, I order online and have them delivered.
@SageMasterRPG same reason I stopped using my cheapo printer. Damn ink cartridges are expensive and lack stamina
