Excellent video, chaps. I like your honest appraisal of the pros and cons of electric cars. Definitely one of the most warts and all i've seen on the subject.
Hi guys, very informative vlog. Don’t drive myself but useful to those considering an electric car. Weekend in Cornwall sounds lovely . Many happy holidays there as a child
Thanks guys that was very interesting. I would have range anxiety as well. I enjoy your videos. I will be going back through my favorites as I recover from a car accident. Have a great week!
I love Davids snacks mmmmm Interesting video on all the charging, weve just had our home charger installed but have a fair few months until the new car will probably come

It did make for an awkward soup session having said onto him and him sitting at the table across the way... I found out in the week that his snazzy Audi has a 250 mile range (and is over a grand a month to subscribe too 😮) so feel like he had plenty of juice if he didn’t hammer his speed. Thinking that an EV possibly isnt for you right now if you’ve tank anxiety! Have you packed yet? 🤔

@@MrDavidMrIan I started reading up and it became apparent that you would never get anywhere near the range in real conditions & I thought about work trips to Scotland and just couldn't bring myself to do it. Shame as it is a gorgeous looking car and has great reviews.
It does make you change your driving style. I do find that I’m overtaken more often as I’m driving under 60mph on long trips- but it’s also cool to see the range increase when your cruise, brake, or go downhill and the regenerative charging kicks in. And I have seen the display show 235 mile range (once so far) based on my recent driving style. But yeah, definitely a squeaky bum moment or two going from yours to Scotland in one.
Loved seeing an electric car on a distance drive in real life. Ok your car isn’t really designed for long journeys but city driving. But it highlights my issue. I sometimes drive from SW London via tunnel to Brittany and that would take a lot of planning and it seems some luck.
Range anxiety 😒 my wife has that symptom 😔me I have taken our Zoe all the way down to 8miles all good 👍 Have you done the two peddle and button reset 🧐 try it it might surprise you. Our Zoe is only a 40kw but we manage to get 175miles on a charge before the reset that then went up to 207mile after 🚙 . We charge locally on a MER charger at 0.35pkw and plan our charger stops using either zap map or even Google maps as this gives us the location of charging on our choosing route when on holiday picking the cheapest one after checking it is available. We did a 650mile holiday around trip to Cornwall it was a fantastic holiday..
Very interesting and informative thanks, can totally understand your range anxiety I do think it’s what puts of most people hopefully there will be lots of charging points in the future as you say great for short journeys, glad you had a great time with your parents❤️👍🏻
We had a lovely time thank you Linda. When you look at the number of chargers on the ZapMap map there are lots - but they’re run by different companies and that’s a faff to make sure you have membership to all of them. Until they consolidate or use the same card it will be a faff.
Interesting to see what it's like owning an electric car, we're looking to make the switch when our current lease ends. Loving the coffee/cake/snack stops - the best part of a road trip!
Haha! That is the best but of a road trip, Julie! Obviously there are cars that have a greater range - but they have a greater ride tag too - but for nipping around town the Zoe works for us. Also the technology seems to improve every year so by the time your lease expires things will be different again. Hope you like what you end up with!
I can’t believe I’ve only just found you guys! Myself and my partner love Disney and go to WDW or try to, every year. We’re from Southampton too and everytime we go to visit my grandad in Teignmouth we go to route 303! 😂 small world
What can I say? Oh yes - Thanks for sharing the reality of EV long distance trips. You are very patient. Charging is both a lottery and an inconvenience. Many parts of the UK lack sufficient charge points. The Onto free charging is very good, as Instavolt charge 75p per Kwh. This includes full VAT at 20%. suddenly petrol isnt so expensive. Charge from home and pay 5% VAT and a lower cost per Kwh. We can look forward to higher EV insurance as it costs 25% more to sort an EV after an accident. Government legislation is likely to control how EVs must be handled if the traction battery or case is damaged. Let them eat cake!
Hi guys. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with your electric car. Haven’t considered going down electric route before, but way things are going, it’s looking like a good option. Take care, see you both soon.
Cheers Tink. We genuinely love our car - otherwise we wouldn’t persevere with working out the best plans for long journeys! And technology is improving all the time - so another reason why subscribing works for us, as we can take advantage of changes and swap up when something better is available. Thank you for watching! Have a great week!
Forgotten the Phileas Fogg crisps, those were great 😂 The panic of electric cars is a reason I’m holding off on getting one. £12 seems a lot for the amount of miles you’d get. Driving over 300 miles to Edinburgh in one will be a long day 😂 loved the vlog as ever guys
Public chargers - especially the fast ones so cost a bit more if you had to pay for them. To put it in context, we’ve done 2000 miles in the car and aside from the free charging we’ve only spent £80 at the one round the corner at Lidl. But yes, a 300 mile trip would need a bit of planning for a stop off (or two) drowning on your car and it’s range. Some do around 250 per charge.
We're at the stage where this year we're going to need to replace a vehicle - never considered an EV or a subscription service, but colour us intrigued! Interested to see how you get on with it over time. Glad you had a nice trip in Cornwall, we've never been but its on 'the (neverending) list' 😊 x
We stared thinking we were going to lease one but didn’t know what to go for and then discovered Onto. And the more we looked into it the more it felt like a less risky option - if only for a month or two to see how we got on with an EV and the potential challenges over distance and charging etc. from not having a car to having one delivered to your door with insurance etc included it was really hassle free at a time when life was hectic. And now we can change up to a different model (if budget allows or circumstances need it, and as technology improves) as many times as we need to. For now Onto works for us - so definitely something we’d have others consider before making the leap. Hope you’re both well xx
Very interesting vlog guys .... I don't know how I feel about electric cars .. Seems alot of faffing about. I don't know if I could be bothered with it . But was lovely to see u as always xx ❤ 💙
Sometimes with Podpoint and other 7KW chargers you have to go into settings on the Zoe, Programming and set to immediate charge because if you have time of day charge set up for off peak home charging it will wait until 12:30 pm to start charging.
i leased a kia soul ev 30kwh great car it was like a friend then a tesla model 3 wow a super car i wish i could have kept it , now i own a bmw i3 rex the perfect car for no range hassle , not as good as the previous 2 cars but cheaper by far to own a ev rather than lease, so no public charging for me, even on long trips, unless i trip over a charger enroute. so if you have the dosh get a tesla (supercharger network) if you want a bargain buy a used renault zoe ze50 line half the new price for a almost new car with ok range...thanks for the video.
We thought a lot about getting an electric car. I think hybrid would be best for us just because I would have MAJOR anxiety driving to see my parents, it’s a 2 hour drive through hills.
The good things about hills is that when you go downhill the car has regenerative braking so when you’re foot is off the pedal it recharges the battery. Same for when you’re cruising and braking. So the uphill battery loss could be cancelled by the charge you get back for going downhill.
Hiya 🤗 As an anxious person anyway I definitely couldn’t have an electric car - not yet anyway. I’d need more charging points around before taking that step 🙈 I can see how you managed it, always thinking ahead but it’d be too much for me 😵💫 Have you got anything planned for this weekend? My work week has been sooooo busy, I’m even logged in as a type as I’ve just got things I need to get done so it’s out of my head (I am a bit of a workaholic 😝) I hope you are both well 😘 xxx
Yup, planning (for us anyway) is the key - and it’s still a challenge (but, as we said, we’re still new to all this and once we get to know how the car drives a bit more we might chill a bit 🤣) Sorry that you’re logged in and working - that sucks. Hope you get it completed sooner rather than later. This morning we’re back off to the dump (but no, not filming it) and then later we’re out for a mooch somewhere new in the car. Hopefully. We wanted to be up and out by 9 but tiredness has other ideas so we’re already behind on our plans 🤦🏼♂️ Xx
Welcome to our world, Errol! We did have to use the blower a couple of times to see-most the windows, and for heating as it was a bit chilly at times. But thankfully we didn’t need to use the AC to cook us - we have that variable to add when we do the trip in hot weather! 🤦🏼♂️
oh guys i was trying to eat a bacon sandwich and you kept saying flap, i hate the word and looking at the bacon hanging out of my sandwich just made it very hard to eat lol
I do hire an EV sometimes, but I also do have range anxiety. I also don't like charging in the dark in an empty parking lot by myself. I don't feel comfortable doing that even though that's a bias of course, but being a woman in the dark in an empty lot doesn't give me fuzzy feelings
Completely understand Daphne. Not a fan of collecting the car from the Lidl car park late at night either, so can only imagine how you must feel. Stay safe x
Hi guys, I love the idea an benefits of an electric car,but wow what a pain hunting round for the chargers,I think there will be lots of arguments when more people go electric with having to wait if someone is using the chargers, that alone would make me anxious 😱 my daughter would love that car though as its her name sake, Zoe not Renault 🤣🤣
Although Renault Roberts does have a certain alliteration about it 🤔 Local (under 100 mile) trips are way more stress free Jackie - it’s just longer distances when you’re time poor are a challenge for us. And as the technology improves, and more people take it up it will just get better and better.
So interesting to find out more about Ontu. We have a hybrid Honda Jazz just now but thinking of going fully electric next time. Range anxiety lol - it’s a thing! Xxx ps will we be getting a Florida trip update in a future vlog???
I'm amazed at the poor mileage your getting my Zoe GT shows 229 when i charge to 100% it has never give me less than 200 miles. Which is usually means once a fortnight charge unless i go on a trip.
At the time we’d only had it for around a month so hadn’t learnt how to drive it efficiently. And this year it got upgraded to the 2022 model and that consistently was >200 miles when charged to 100%
That’s true, however that assumes that even shared the combined charge gets to 120kw. Often, understandably, the pull is much less than the advertised rate... so you increase your odds in getting close to 46kw with the fastest charger you can plug into. Often Charging on an InstaVolt 50Kw charger the rate is around 20kw due to time of day and other geographical dependencies.
Hi guys, sorry to bother you. I am panic stricken! Just booked to go to Orlando Feb 23with six members of my family. My eldest granddaughter needs gluten free and I have assured my daughter it won’t be a problem, based on a vlog I saw. Now I have been checking out places like Millers and it doesn’t look promising. I’m worried the holiday will be ruined. Can you suggest anywhere in the parks or I Drive. Any info would be appreciated. Thankyou
Hi Bez. All of the quick service and table service places in Disney will have gluten free options (and other allergy and intolerance options). When booking table service on the app you could flag the allergy or intolerance, and when using the app to order quick service food you could also choose the allergy free options - however we’ve not used the app since 2020 so unsure if the functionality has changed. Either way Disney do offer allergy friendly food options across all sites. Pretty sure Universal would be the same. However we can’t speak about the specifics of other locations, but would surprised if most places didn’t cater for it in some way.
Back when we filmed this Clive they didn’t have them! And we had to have a high percentage as the fast chargers down in Cornwall where we were going were non existent 🤦🏼♂️
ONTO have gone from 1000 miles a month at an all inclusive price of 399 to 750 miles at 499 btw pointless charging the Zoe at anything above 50 KW that’s as fast as it can charge.
Yes, they have made changes to their offering since we filmed but the pricing and offer still, currently, works for us. And even though the Zoe won’t charge faster than 50Kw, some of the faster chargers charge at a lower rate depending on the location, draw from the power supply and whether there are other cars charging. We’re often at a 50Kw charger and it charges at a lower rate. So the logic of going to a charger that chargers at a higher than 50Kw is that, hopefully, we’ll get close to a 59Kwh charge as possible.
@@MrDavidMrIan ah ok fair enough that makes sense actually, you’re right some of them do drop down to a much lower rate when two charge at the same time. Nearly went back to ONTO but they just told me they have now dropped BP entirely and if you still want Instavolt it’s an extra 129 on top of the charging premium that you now already have to pay to have charging with Shell included, this would make the Zoe GT £629 PM basically a second mortgage, glad you’re still enjoying it but for me it’s no longer value for money.
@@ashleymorris7899 Luckily we’re still on our original rate and we keep the InstaVolt perk til June, but we know what you mean about the increases... there will be a point where we get priced out.
Is the car you guys have automatic? I can’t see anywhere on the website if they come automatic or manual. I would assume because they are electric that they are automatic? Thanks
There are two reasons why I decided not to buy an electric car 1) The infrastructure is not there for long distance driving, too many chargers are not working. 2) The depreciation, you lose so much money if you buy a new EV.
Yep that would defo stress me out too 🥺 we have just got a hybrid were it charges it’s self. Still cost a fortune to fill up tho 🥲 Glad u had a few days away xx
It’s not for everyone, we get that, however we can give it back at anytime and the expense ends at that point; we don’t have to pay insurance; it costs £9 a day for work (for parking - as opposed to £9 for parking at the station and £70 return train ticket, plus London Congestion charge); and 5000 miles so far has only cost us £170 in electric (because we’ve not used the free electric that comes as part of the subscription for all of our charges) so if you offset what 5000 miles would have cost in a petrol car, and the cost of commuting by train, it really isn’t that crazy expensive. Plus we are not tied into a lease deal with capped mileage nor do we have to fork out for a brand new car we are stuck with that loses value the moment it leaves the forecourt. As we said, we know it’s not for everyone but after we did the maths it works for us!
@@MrDavidMrIan I get that and agree it is (for some people) a painless form of ownership. But think about the following: Electricity (if, like me, you're charging at home) would cost around £550 for 8,000 a year (at current rates), insurance is around £200 and servicing is £100 (based on Renaults own 3-year plan which costs £299). So that around £850 per annum for the "on-top" cost of ownership. The purchase price of the Zoe is (currently)£30,500. I paid £25,750 for a 3-month old example. Residual values are estimated at 42% after 3 years, so lets say £13,000. Over 3 years the cost to me should be depreciation of £12,750 (£25,750-£13,000) plus 3x annual running costs of £850 = £2550, so lets say c. £15,300. That compares to leasing of c. £18,000 over 3-years. Actuallly not as bad as I thought once i did the math but still expensive.
I was going to get a used gt one as they are dirt cheap but found its because Renault skimpt on safty and failt the safty tests and ratings for cars They removed the side high airbags which protects you from side impacts and side head injurys so wont be buying one now Too risky

There’re perhaps an option so that you can try before your buy, Jan!

Hi guys, very informative vlog. Don’t drive myself but useful to those considering an electric car. Weekend in Cornwall sounds lovely . Many happy holidays there as a child
Cheers Bez - have a lovely weekend and thanks for giving it a watch!
Thanks guys that was very interesting. I would have range anxiety as well. I enjoy your videos. I will be going back through my favorites as I recover from a car accident. Have a great week!

Oh blimey, Lee - hope you’re on the mend and that any trauma subsides soon. X

Lucky him, Paul!!
You can always try before you buy with Onto. Just sayin’ 🤷🏼♂️
@@MrDavidMrIan Apparently there’s not many charging places around here… so on hold a few years lol

I love Davids snacks mmmmm Interesting video on all the charging, weve just had our home charger installed but have a fair few months until the new car will probably come

Glad you made up in the end though. He couldn't stay mad at you lovely lads for long ❤️
It did make for an awkward soup session having said onto him and him sitting at the table across the way...
@@MrDavidMrIan funnily enough I was given the option at work in the week and nearly hit the button on a Kia EV6 but bottled it at the last minute. A few bits have been slung in to a case un ironed if that counts? 😉

Spice girls , as the return soundtrack … nice 👌
We’re all class!
Loved seeing an electric car on a distance drive in real life. Ok your car isn’t really designed for long journeys but city driving. But it highlights my issue. I sometimes drive from SW London via tunnel to Brittany and that would take a lot of planning and it seems some luck.
Oh blimey Alan, we couldn’t even contemplate going to France in it - so yeah, we understand the challenge that would be.
😂 small world
Haha ! Hi neighbour! Super small world Fi! And welcome along to the fun! Thanks for giving us a try! Do you have a WDW trip planned?
@@MrDavidMrIan it’s definitely the way I wanna go for next car but not quiet there
We're at the stage where this year we're going to need to replace a vehicle - never considered an EV or a subscription service, but colour us intrigued!
Thanks Emma. For everyday use it really is super easy and convenient.

@@MrDavidMrIan that’s good to know, I had no idea about that feature.
Yup, planning (for us anyway) is the key - and it’s still a challenge (but, as we said, we’re still new to all this and once we get to know how the car drives a bit more we might chill a bit 🤣)
Sorry that you’re logged in and working - that sucks. Hope you get it completed sooner rather than later.
This morning we’re back off to the dump (but no, not filming it) and then later we’re out for a mooch somewhere new in the car. Hopefully.
We wanted to be up and out by 9 but tiredness has other ideas so we’re already behind on our plans 🤦🏼♂️

Nice little car, but I'd be so anxious about the charging going over that distance. Did you have to use the aircon when the conditions were so damp?
Welcome to our world, Errol!
We did have to use the blower a couple of times to see-most the windows, and for heating as it was a bit chilly at times. But thankfully we didn’t need to use the AC to cook us - we have that variable to add when we do the trip in hot weather! 🤦🏼♂️

You should have poked it back inside, Glenn!
@@MrDavidMrIan oh no, i really don't want to be poking any flaps. resisted this long
I do hire an EV sometimes, but I also do have range anxiety.
Although Renault Roberts does have a certain alliteration about it 🤔
Local (under 100 mile) trips are way more stress free Jackie - it’s just longer distances when you’re time poor are a challenge for us. And as the technology improves, and more people take it up it will just get better and better.
@@MrDavidMrIan Renault Roberts never thought of that 🤣🤣🥰

@@MrDavidMrIan Absolutely will - that would make my day xx
I'm amazed at the poor mileage your getting my Zoe GT shows 229 when i charge to 100% it has never give me less than 200 miles. Which is usually means once a fortnight charge unless i go on a trip.
At the time we’d only had it for around a month so hadn’t learnt how to drive it efficiently. And this year it got upgraded to the 2022 model and that consistently was >200 miles when charged to 100%
Don't trust Pod point have issues all the time with 7kw chargers , with my onto zoe.
The Zoe can't take more than 46KW, so it doesn't matter at all if you have to share the 120KW charger
Use ABRP "a better route planner", there shouldnt be a need for that many stops
Thanks very much James! Downloaded and playing with it.
Many thanks
Hi there, can these be rented if US citizens? Arranging when arriving off Cunard ship?
I don’t believe so. And if they have to push back your delivery (as they did with us by a week) it would screw up your plans.
You seem to charge at to high a percentage. Should have just charge at Exeter Moto services. They have loads of chargers.
Thanks
Hey Ashley - they are indeed all automatic - and they are so responsive and smooth to drive!

Thank you. And it was, yes.
Hopefully electric vehicles will not be the only option before my license expires!!! 👍🏻
Ha! 2030 is supposedly when no more petrol cars will be allowed in the U.K., Julie.
@@MrDavidMrIan that’s why the price of electric is going up!!!!!😜
There are two reasons why I decided not to buy an electric car 1) The infrastructure is not there for long distance driving, too many chargers are not working. 2) The depreciation, you lose so much money if you buy a new EV.
*Welcome to the **_Future_** What a Joke !*
Yep that would defo stress me out too 🥺 we have just got a hybrid were it charges it’s self. Still cost a fortune to fill up tho 🥲 Glad u had a few days away xx
Subscribing is a crazy, crazy expensive way to own a car.
Speed queens 😂😂😂
True story, Sarah!
I was going to get a used gt one as they are dirt cheap but found its because Renault skimpt on safty and failt the safty tests and ratings for cars
They removed the side high airbags which protects you from side impacts and side head injurys so wont be buying one now
