Compared to the "normal" scales, the Victorinox PLUS scales have a shaft for the ballpoint pen on the backside scale. This PLUS scales also have another slot. But the entrance to this slot is closed...at least on the most of the models. The only models were this slot is open are those models with a screen on the front scale. I will show you how to open this slot and how I use it.

I think since it’s not going to look completely flawless anyway, then rather than shortening the toothpick from the head end, I would cut it from the tip end and reshape the tip, preserving the original head and avoiding the need for glue to recreate it, and then just file it to be rounded evenly on both sides. Also, cutting from the tip end gives the option to reshape it however you want, possibly making it into something besides a toothpick. Maybe a small plastic scraper to use on surfaces where you don’t want a metal tip to mar it up. I read once where someone used the toothpick to adjust dip switches on an electronic device. Maybe reshape the tip for better use with that.
It might be just right for a lock pick
@@samuels.4622 most likely not strong enough unless its a really crappy lock
The rounding of the head of the pick would still be off you fucking idiot
Small tweezers, modded for lock picking, as per Felix’s video on lock-picking? You could lock other tool between tweezers, I’ve seen a video where someone “gripped” a needle (nykGyver channel?) other implements could be gripped using same trick?

Victorinox “Felix Immler” Model
They would sell thousands !!!
To make a own model...that would be a dream 🤣🤣
JGB Sweeper I would buy that one 👍
I'd buy one!
Count me in too!
Who's taking orders? I'll take 3. Felix will you be signing them?
Victorinox needs to start implementing this into their plus scales.
Thats my opinion too!
I have the regular Trekker model of Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. After watching this video I finally got the nerve to pop the scales off to see what it looked like inside. Plenty of room in there for some fish hooks and monofilament fishing line. Thanks for all you do and share.
Thank you so much my friend. Just let me know if you need new Plus scales.
This is great! Two guys I follow commenting on the same page! Really learn about from you, Lonnie!
@@cgraham1968 Thanks Chris
Far North, did you come up with any way to store those fish hooks? Thanks.
@@wjf213 To tell you the truth i had forgot all about this video and what it shared. However I have lost my Swiss Army Knife that I have had for many years when the belt sheath came off of my belt and dropped somewhere out in the woods last summer.
I like that we crafts it all using a Swiss Army knife also! 👌
Thanks a lot Joe!
Yep
Great video, Felix! I didn't even know the third slot was there until I watched this.
I took this one step further. I cut off the end of the vertical edges where the pen slot and the original toothpick slot meet. This allows me to slide in a toothpick from a 58mm Swiss Army Knife without having to shorten it. The 58mm toothpick just touches the pen.
Super Trick! Thanks a lot!
Definitely trying that! Did the head of the tooth pick already line up with the curvature if the scale or did you have to file it still?
@@matthewallen1715 The 58mm toothpicks have a straight head, not curved, so it would have to be filed.
No joke, when you filed the bit out, I went to blow the filings off!! I'm going mad 😂😂
Thanks a lot for your funny comment!
So glad I am not the only one...
I love that you are so happy and positive. This coupled with such well presented and excellent videos makes your videos my new watch list. Thanks so much Felix.
Hi Felix ! I found another way to carry the firefly AND the toothpick, with no modification of the toothpick. There's enough place inside the SECOND scale to carve a slot for the toothpick, parallel to the other slot. Then you can use the third and hidden slot of the other scale to carry a second pair of tweezers, with pointed ends of course ! Best regards.
Thanks a lot for this super idea!! Greetings from Switzerland
PLS PLS PLS
Yes please, could you show this in a follow-up video? Thank you Thierry and Felix.
No need to cut to shorten, then glue the head back on the 91mm model toothpick. Just buy a pack of shorter toothpicks for the 58mm Victorinox models. They're JUST short enough to fit in the hidden slot, whereas the angled tip of the toothpick rests over the center of the diameter of the pen in the pen slot. Just the plastic 'V' rail in the scale needs to be carved out because it gets in the way of the tip of the toothpick. Then file to round the head of the toothpick to fit the contour of the round scale.
Great video. I opened the hidden slot but instead of modifying the toothpick I just cut down the firefly and put it in the new slot. Much easier imho.
Super idea!
That's exactly what I had in mind too and was just about to ask if someone had done that.
Which size firefly did you use?
The smaller or larger one?
Extra secret compartments! This is going from a SAK doctorate into a SAK spy secrets. Can't wait for when you show us how to turn the toothpick into an arrow!
Seriously, great channel!
Ha ha haaaaaa, what a fantastic idea!
That’s nothing. Just wait till he shows us how to access the GPS/Glanos transceiver found in the lanyard section
Hey Felix, great Video as always! Why don‘t you put the Firesteel into the tweezers slot and just use the small tweezers instead? Then you wouldn‘t have to modify anything.. Fründlichi Grüess usem schöne Thurgau :-)
Das isch di best Lösig!! Dankä!
Why didn't you just turn the toothpick over? Then shorten and reshape the tip instead of cutting it into pieces and wearing it and using glue that will eventually fail and cause problems? Also can you fit the tweezers toothpick the pen and the fire steel onto the scales on the compact? Thank you
Because then the bevel looks on the wrong side if i do it like you said. But it's also a good way to go...no doupt.
A lot of us have some extra free time due to the craziness in the world. A great opportunity to try some of these tips and modifications from Felix! And get out in the woods, too, for some extra social distancing!
I agree 100% !!!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃
This is a great idea. I've been looking at those slots and thinking about taking a plastic coffee stir straw and turning that into a tiny storage container to fit in one of those slots, and inside the straw I wanted to fill it with potassium permanganate for extreme emergency water treatment. Just seal up the straw and forget it as the PP has an indefinite shelf life, and that is enough PP to treat dozens of gallons of water in a very tiny package. I bet you could even fill the straw with part of vaseline soaked cotton ball for fire starting along with that ferro rod. Keep up the great work.
I’ve seen that extra slot before and wondered what it was for especially since it was closed off. Thanks for explaining they used it for models with displays on the opposite side. I love firefly Ferro rods and this mod let’s you have all the tools! Now they are Plus-Plus scales or Plus+ or ++ 😁
Yes Ian...now i have PLUS PLUS scales 😂😂
It's for stability, witch makes the handle scale stronger!
Somebody explain to me why a company as fucking REVERED for QUALITY would NOT utilize a slot they already designed like wtf??
Haa ha haa, thats hard to explaine... :-D
Hello, Felix! I just bought a Swisschamp and I would like to buy the FireAnt, Helix Tinder and the Firefly. Could you tell me where you bought them from? I would appreciate any help with the links. Greetings from Romania.

Couldn't a toothpicks from a 58mm work
This is awesome. Are the plastic covers loose at all when u put them back on the knife? I think i have to modify to make my firefly fire steel fit better. Great video brother.
Absolutley my friend, it is a probelm that the Scales geting loose. Here's a trick to avoid this a bit. ua-cam.com/video/DzfB7OZ70sc/v-deo.html
Hahaaa The firefly ! , replaces my toothpick but we talked about that last week or so. You replace nothing instead just adding tools ! Big thumbs up Felix ........thanks !
Thank you so much Martin!!
How can i find that firefly file?My search is empty on google
@Michael Harris already ordered, thanks!
I watch these videos in class during my TA block and so I have to keep the volume low and the captions on, and for a while I was confuse why it said “to speak” but now I realize you’re saying tooth pick and the captions just don’t know any accent but American 😂
Thanks for your funny comment!
I Love the mod just wondering does the tooth pick hold tight in the slot?
Where would I buy plus scales for a Huntsman?
I'd love a second toothpick slot too, one for the toothpick, another for a firesteel.

use the one that comes with the classic, reshape the tip and shorter the front of the toothpick
Two sets of tweezers would be handy after watching your lock picking video…
Super idea!!!
is it only in U.S.A. that they are sold under "swiss army" and "victorinox" as if from different manufacturers?
No..as much i know it's the same manufacturer.
Cocktails , compliments, and hundred dollar bills seem to open the hiden slot well historically speaking.
😅
Great tutorial, thanks! Which flint size do you use? Regular or mini?
Oh i am not sure... i think the big one...
I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO CUT THE FRONT AND JUST FILE A NEW TIP. EVENTUALLY SUPER GETS BRITTLE AND SNAPS OFF. IF YOU SUPER GLUE SOMETHING SPRINKLE BAKING SODA ON IT AFTER YOU ATTACH THE PIECES TOGETHER. IT MAKES IT 10 TIMES STRONGER. THATS WHAT THE MILITARY DOES TO REPAIR SMALL FOAM PIECES ON THE APACHE HELICOPTERS.
Thanks a lot for your hint!
Like the changes, like the ferocium addition. Not sure on gluing the toothpick, I hope it holds up good. I'm thinking light sanding would hold up better in extreme cold weather. Good videos I enjoy watching them.
Thanks a lot for your honest feedback!!
Hey Felix, just discovered your channel and I'm loving it! A question that maybe is naive: why don't you cut the toothpick on the other side, so you don't have to glue it back together?
Cheers from Geneva and congrats for the great content! :)
Is there a hidden slot on the midnite manager? Or a mod to add one? Love the tool, but miss the toothpick. Love your channel!
I don't know yet. But thanks a lot for your inspiration!
LG m

And another comment on the Firefly. If Firefly had been around during McGyver's days, he'd certainly have set stuff alight then.
I don't trust glue as much as you do. I think I would have cut and shaped the other end of the toothpick.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Nice job.....
Very useful videos.....
The firefly you mentioned, you bought it? Or you constructed it?
Thank you
Genius the best of both worlds ! We need Generals in NATO like you !
Thank you Scott
Felix make a video where you show your favorite Victorinox
Thanks a lot for your inspiration!
Why cut off the head of the toothpick??? Why not just fashion the pointed ead down to the right size!!!-GARY 🇨🇭
Because the roundings of the head are on the wrong side...
Sorry, I am a dummy, I never thought about that!!! But will the super glue hold up good? -GARY 🇨🇭
Top Video, Danke.
I didn't know about Firefly until I watched this video. Felix always surprises us. I'll definitely buy a pack as soon as the coronavirus scare is over. Thanks again for the awesome video.
When I see the notification, I'm very excited to see what I can learn about my favorite object !! My SAK il already in my pocket !! 🇨🇭🇨🇭
Hello Valentin. Thanks a lot for your comment!
Next step : built a sak with a sak.
This guy is awesome !
Haa ha haa, good idea :-D
The joke about needing your glasses caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud. Thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it 😀😀
You are such a loveable Swiss Army dork, Felix. Keep doing what you do, we love you!
Thanks lot for this woderful compliment!!!
I think i would just modify the Firefly instead -
Very good idea!
At some stage that tooth pick head is going to break, just shorten it and sharpen it, it makes more common sense no?
Yes Alain, i agree!
I was thinking that same thing when I was watching him work...
Fine Videos Felix! I am watching through all of them. How do I know if the scales on my SAK have that slot already in place without taking the scale off?
If you have already a slot for a pen... then you have a third slot.
Why dont use little tooth pick of a classic sd instead of modifiying a Big one ?
Good idea! Thank you..
Only problem i have with this video is the way you cut and glued the tooth pick when there were 2 better and stronger options (in my opinion). 1st you could have just whittled down the toothpick to keep its integrity and still be just as useful if whittled down to a similar size or 2nd my favourite option, leave the toothpick where it is, use the classic sd tweezers in the new slot and a firefly in the original tweezer slot
Thanks for the tip! Your feedback is very valuable for me!
@@FelixImmler your very welcome, your channel has given me so many tips and carving projects for hours of enjoyment. Thanks for all the work you do making these videos!

Bin wieder mal begeistert
Danke mein lieber Freund!!
Victorinox compact has an 3 original slot. Just replace the handles. But in fact, why isn't it so on all types? And could it be created 4 slots? for tweezers, toothpick, pen and firesteel? Tahnks! And a lot of health!
4 slots is my wish too. Thanks a lot for your comment Juraj!
@@FelixImmler You must write directly to Victorinox :D And show them your channel too! ;) :D Thanks Felix :)
@@FelixImmler And another idea would be a mini file on knife for 5slot :D Tell the team to do this and also 2 slots for 2 pins. Thanks :) ;) :D
why to cut the toothpick like that? if you can simply make it shorter at the inner side.
Thanks for your hint!
I love my Sak more and more every time I watch your video
Thant makes me happy. Thank you so much Gabriel!
Hi Felix finde deine Videos voll cool. Wäre toll wenn du mir antworten könntest.
PS: Weiter so
Danke für dein Kompliment. Liebe Grüsse

Nah, you done that wrong mate.
You should have cut off the other end of the toothpick and sharpened it up instead of gluing the nub end back on again.
Thanks for your tip!
@@FelixImmler No worries mate, it is me that should be thanking you for the many things you share on your channel.
Much respect from down under for your great work.
I have the firefly but just got rid of the toothpick
Exactly for this situation you can open the third slot.
This really is SO cool! Just that perfect level of an clever but easy customisation that really makes your SAK feel special 👌
SERIOUS MODIFICATION QUESTION:
Om planning to get a Victorinox "Manager" as my parental leave EDC. It's small enough to always carry and goof around with the kids without being in the way and still lots of food tools. Need the Philips and flat head for toys, scissors for all sorts of things, knife for cutting fruit on outings and tweezers for splinters. But I really love the idea of an LED-light finding kids toys under the couch and scaring away monsters from under the bed 😁, but I feel it's really hard to sacrifice the tweezers! Can I make a scale customisation to the "Midnight manager (LED-light version) so that it holds tweezers (and maybe toothpick) as well?
/ Stay awesome Felix
Schönes Video, Felix.
Nicht schlecht die "umbauten". :-)
Beim Zahnstocher, warum so umständlich?
LG
Hallo Felix,
Danke für die Antwort.
Smile, du bist der SAK-Fachmann. :-)
Why not just cut some of the tooth pick off at the point then re-sharpen it. That way you don't need to glue anything
In watching this, I believed shortening the shaft was the way to go. Stay safe ,Cheers
Thanks a lot for your comment. Because the rounding of the head look on the wrong side...
@@derrickfelix6206 Yes that's easyer but not perfect, because the rounding of the head looks on the wrong side.

Love the videos. Question? I want to buy the Ranger with custom Red transparent and blue transparent scales for it. Do these scales mean they are PLUS? In order to get the ballpoint pen? Does the Ranger also have the small pin hole under the corkscrew? All in all, I like the Ranger and want the Ballpoint pen and small pin, as well as Firefox. Thank you sir!
Can you put the pen shell on a regular Swiss army kindle
Sorry i don't understand your question... what is a swiss army kindle ?
The lengths of Swiss Army Knives' toothpicks - these are not even first-world problems ...
What's thr numeral for 0?
Only a couple of weeks ago, I spied this in my AVT scales, and the translucent plus scales. I wanted to do this exact same thing to my plus scales.
Super. Good luck for this project!
Nice one Felix another good trick 🇳🇿😎👍
Thanks a lot dear Phil!
Can't you use a small tweezers from a classic in the new slot?
Yes i guess this slot i made for a shorter Tweezers.
holy crap, thats an amazing hack!!!!! i will put a small tweezer in there just for the fun of it, it will look cool with 3 tools tucked away in there. What I have is a cyber tool SAK. Its special cause on the back side (same side that has the hidden slot), the Cross badge is instead of the other side. The reason for this is because its got something long printed on that side (sequoia heritage) requested by some company to victorinox to do. I plan to take the front out and replace with another scale that traditionally will have the cross badge on it. It will become one unique SAK.
Nice video thanks for showing 👍🏼🇨🇭👍🏼
Hello Rafael. Thanks a lot for watching!
It's some very new:-) nice:-) Thank you
Thanks a lot for watching!
What is the brand of your jacket? Do you like it? And where can I buy one? I tried to buy the same jacket on Wish but got ripped off. They sent me a different jacket. I don’t trust Wish anymore. They know that after waiting two months for a Chinese person to row your parcel across the Pacific Ocean by the time you get the wrong item you won’t want to deal with returning it, since even if you are lucky enough to ever get your money back it may take a few years. Stick with Amazon.
Another great Video Felix, I have just fitted two side handle (scales) on a 91 mm pocket knife that I carry all the time, I Brought the "see through" red.... It has made it look like a new Knife. I didn't realise that the Black handles had the pen slot... very useful tips again.... keep them coming , All the best

Thanks a lot dear palm weaver artist!
It's not just the black scales. You can get most scales in what they call +scales, these are standard on knives with a pen.
Why not just re-profile the end of the toothpick? That way, you don't have a joint that could break, even with amazing glue, you still have a weak spot. At the very least, melt the two ends.
I would probably just use the toothpick of the small Victorinox
Does anyone know if the plus scales are compatible with the Huntsman model? I wouldn't mind adding the pen.
Couldn't you have just shortened the toothpick from the pointed end and rounded off the other end that sticks out instead of cutting, glueing and filing?
How would you know that you are buying a Victorinox with Plus Scales if you were buying it used or second hand?
Saludos AMIGO 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Felix, do you think the 1940 Victorinox are superior to the modern ones? Not counting the alox versions.
Nah, the toothpick - the most used item on my collection of SAK - is perfect. That nearly useless fire steel would need modifying.

I wish though that they’d make a ferro rod that fit the little slot or wheee the tweezers go. That way a guy could get the short tweezers and be good to go. I find I use the tooth pick on my Swisschamp way to much to jack it up
Just an observation, would cutting the tooth pick on the point and reshaping be advantageous?

Does that work with every black handled SAK..??
Why don't you just reduce the end of the toothpick instead of cutting it off at the head? I would be concerned that the glue would fail one day under any serious stress.
Thanks for your valuable hint!
@@FelixImmler you know 10x more than I do!!! I figured you had your reasons...
jump to 4:27 :D
After watching Felix I was inspired to try a slight variation, by continuing a cut further into the scale, increasing the length of the channel until it starts to cross into the pen channel. This lets you put in a normal 58mm size toothpick without modifications. It doesn't interfere with the pen at all, and saves the cutting and gluing of the 91mm size toothpick.
Hey, that’s awesome! Probably going to do that next. Did the head line up with the curvature of the scale?
When modifying the toothpick i would have just sanded it but nice work
You are amazing craftsmanship on SAK. Congratulations. Love your videos
That makes me happy. Thanks a lot John!

Four tools packed into one scale. But only one tool on the other side? Why not more? Does the emblem block a lot of available space?

Warum macht Victorinox das nicht gleich so. Super Plus Griffschalen.
