    Your passion and good nature are contagious! My parents got me a Swiss champ as a child, and to this day it is easily the most useful single tool I own. It has never let me down, needs little to no maintenance, but I had no idea it was as useful as you have demonstrated in your videos. Your videos have inspired me to get reacquainted with it immediately!

    Hello Felix. About the one of the three eyes on the coconut being soft, if you look closely in different angles on the three spots, it should begin to look like a face with the spots becoming the eyes and mouth. If I remember from my childhood in India, the mouth spot is always the soft one.
    I enjoy your videos very much, Felix. Today's world needs more people like you on the internet. Cheers!

    To split the keyring for reattachment, I split it with the bottle opener but then set the tweezers in between them, or either a piece of string, to keep the keyring opened, then you can easily and freely attach it into the eyelid and remove the tweezers/string by pulling it straight out. I find this much easier than the example shown. This works for "any" keyring by the way.

  • @philvallee645
    @philvallee645 Рік тому

    Honestly, the one trick that blew me away was slipping the keyring onto the bottle opener and slide down onto the eyelet. Wow! So simple but I probably never would have made that connection! Genius!
    One more tip is to use the toothpick to pry open the ring. Much easier than your thumbnail! 😊

  • @zoehancock
    @zoehancock 3 роки тому

    I'm very relieved that the main use for the eyelet is to do with coconuts. We don't ever tackle coconuts so I am not now regretting that I too remove the eyelet so as to be able to carve with the little blade. (I still want a hook after the video I saw yesterday...) lovely video. I'm going to watch one each day and savour them. So nice to have the excellent SAK celebrated.

    Awesome tips as usual! I have watched this video twice. This time I think that I know what your camera man was thinking! Lol!
    Regarding the key ring: If you took the ring off and attached it to the eye of a fishing snap swivel you could then snap the swivel into the eyelet. You'd still have the large ring handy if you needed it, but it would literally be a SNAP to remove.

    If you want to get rid of the key-ring, but still want to attach the knife to a lanyard (or similar) on occasion, then use a large fishing snap-swivel. The wire of the snap swivel will easily go through the loop on the knife, but be securely fastened by the buckle on the snap swivel. Another good video Felix! Thanks. Les in UK

      @@QuantumMech_88 I carry mine along with my Gerber multitool in a nylon belt sheath made by "Nite Ize" for carrying several items. Unfortunately this sheath has needed replacing for several years now but the company no longer makes this model of sheath. I have a short loop of paracord attached to the eyelet ring of the Trekker to facilitate easier removal from the sheath.

      @Far North Bushcraft And Survival - What a coincidence Lonnie . I have a Nite Ize sheath for my Leatherman multitool , small Maglite , pen & paper . Not sure if they are made anymore . The Trekker typically goes in trouser pocket and lanyard through a belt loop .

    Old school use for that little key ring: It is perfect to replace lost or broken rings on external frame packs. The ones that hold the pack to the frame.

    Some great tips here! Many thanks Felix. With my first Swiss knife I found the keyring wore away the metal of the attachment. It would not have survived a coconut opening! Now, I use two loops of fine line through the keyring attachment so that the metal does not wear. Cheers!

      Hi Felix, Yes, happy to send a photo but do not know where to. Another story: I live on a small island with a six car ferry. One day the ferry person (a pregnant young lady!) came up the slipway asking if anyone had a screw driver. Of course, I produced my Swiss 'Champ' and we managed to get the thermostat cover off and remove the stuck thermostat to the second engine, restoring the ferry to full functioning!@@FelixImmler

    Thanks for another great video. The way to break open the coconut was so much safer than hacking at it with a blade . Also the way to get the key ring back on is fantastic. I always end up with a bloody fingernail and some x-rated words !!!

    Another great video. Thanks. Do you plan on doing a video on how to sharpen the blades, of course using the Victorinox sharpener pen, and how to keep the blades sharp? And how to sharpen the reamer with it. That would be cool.
    And maybe you have some tricks and use cases for the pin needle next to the bottle opener. I really like your videos.

    I replaced the key ring on my One Handed Trekker with a soft shackle made from yellow 1.75mm Zing-It. I use it as a carabener, and as a way to help me open the large blade one handed by sliding my fingers through and then putting downward force on the soft shackle which plants the body of the knife firmly into my palm. I can then use my thumb to open the blade without the knife twisting or moving in my hand. This task is tricky for me since I have titanium plates in my right hand from a construction accident when I was 17. A 12lb. sledge hammer crushed most of the bones on the left side , turning them into powder and sharp glass like granules lol. Ever since then I've had virtually zero dexterity, poor circulation from the arterial damage and severe arthritis. Having the soft shackle makes it super easy to open. Love the channel, sub'd.
