Its about awaiting death. He speaks of wanting to be in your house...heaven. So he patiently waits like a stone. Alone dead. He regrets his wrongs n feels blessed by things he did good.
As someone who handles depression on a regular basis, just being there helps a lot. Sadly in this selfish world people do not understand what that means. Don't try to find a reason for it and don't try to "help" cure it, just be there maybe to listen or even just being in their company. Meds can't completely help but sometimes being a good friend can.
Great song & reaction. I believe you listened to a Rage Against the Machine, this band is the bass player, guitar player, and drummer from Rage Against the Machine with Chris Cornell singing. Cornell had originally been in the band Soundgarden. You should check them out. He committed suicide in 2017. R.I.P.
Been enjoying your reactions and journey with music. I see you nailed another explanation of the breakdown. Chris paints a picture with his words and vocals. Many go through pain, but can't explain it as well as him.
Hey Quay 😎👋 Your assessment of this songs meaning was spot on. I think this song was about a person, waiting to die, to meet up with someone who has passed away already, this someone was very special and loved. So he waits there in that house in the room, awaiting death, awaiting the reunion. 😎👍
Rip Chris Cornell you left us way too soon, to me you will always be my favorite rock singer thank you for giving the world your talent may God be with you and your family 🙏
Having that emotional connection is everything to me. I listen to loads of music for that connection, and yes, this is definitely a sad song. I encourage people to make emotional Playlists. One happy, one sad, one for workout. That kind of thing.
Its absolutely a sad sad song. But I'm so happy you connected so deeply to him he was a special guy. Helped me through some darkness that deep in my soul
I would call Audioslave's song literary rock. The guy singing has such a complex, convincing voice and the words mean something--what, I don't know yet. But I will listen to this again. From the word go, these guys are cool and deep but unpretentious too. The guitar solo sounds origjnal to me. What is that effect he is using? I wonder. So, there is a kind of attractive mystery at the heart of the performance, which could center on a bad memory or even depression. Artists like Audioslave don't come around too often. Hard to understand, yet fascinating too.
I really appreciate your comments on depression. Depression kills so many people without discrimination of anyone. Chris fought depression for a long time and unfortunately depression won in the end. I agree wholeheartedly about checking on your friends, family etc who suffer with depression, even those you don’t know suffer from depression. A smile can hide a lot. Great, thoughtful reaction!RIP Chris and Chester.❤️😢💔
Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and the band members from Rage Against the Machine formed this band in like 2000 or 2001. This song is sung in the perspective of an elderly person in a nursing home waiting to die. Chris talked about a facility he visited next to a highway. "By a freeway, I confess, I was lost in the pages, of a book, full of death, reading how we'll die alone, and if we're good, we'll lay to rest, anywhere we wanna go." The book full of death was some form of holy scripture, most likely a Holy Bible or Torah. You should check out other Audioslave songs like: Show Me How to Live Cochise I am the Highway Be Yourself Honestly any of their music is great. Also Chris Cornell singing the Prince song "Nothing Compares to You" made famous by Sinead O'connor. He sang it live after finding out Prince had died. Unfortunately in 2017 (March I believe) Chris took his own life. 2 months later on what would have been Chris's 53rd birthday, his best friend and lead singer of Linkin Park, Chester Bennington committed suicide in the exact same manner... Hanging by belt strap on a door knob. Literally the only grunge-era vocalist we have left is Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam. We've lost: Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone) Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) Layne Staley (Alice in Chains/Mad Season) Chris Cornell (Soundgarden/Temple of the Dog/Audioslave) Eddie Vedder would take Andrew Wood's place on lead vocals for Mother Love Bone, but they replaced the guitarist with Mike McCreedy and changed the band name to Pearl Jam.
Hi. I just wanted to give you kudos for bringing up depression. My ex and I had tickets here in Dallas to see Chris Cornell, but he took his own life the weekend before. The lead singer for Linkin Park took his own life in the same way on the anniversary of Chris's death. They were both very good friends. I hope anyone who is going through depression reaches out to someone who will understand. RIP Chris and Chester.
The song is about heaven, or the place you wanna be after life, the road we will all go. Room by room means the different places in life you desire to be or have a connection with. Long story short he is waiting for his daughter in this place like a stone.
It’s so sad I remember seeing audioslave on like aol music back in the day before I knew who Chris was and he ended up banging himself just rough man RIP Chris, his music got me through a lot of tough times in my life.
Chester died on what would have been Chris' birthday a few months after Chris' passing. RIP both true legends and brave but tortured souls. Mental health & depression can hit anybody. It doesn't matter that you're the best singer in the world with career success, fame and fortune beyond most people's wildest dreams. It doesn't matter that you have a lovely home and family and millions of adoring fans the world over. Never be afraid to ask for help if you feel down;
This song - in my own personal interpretation, of course - is about the emptiness of Life versus the promised fulfillment of Heaven/Paradise. Chris Cornell, the singer/songwriter, supposedly took himself out. God knows that Life is hard, and full of evils, but Heaven is worth the Cost of carrying this Cross that is Truth. The Truth of things is hard to bear, but the only way out is through. I often cry when I listen to this song.
I agree with you 💯 on depression, nothing to play around with; I’ve lost too many friends and family members to it. Chris Cornell committed suicide by his own workout belt at a hotel in Detroit soon after they played a concert.
This is my favorite song of all time! If u liked this u should check out i am the highway, shadow on the sun, what you are, and getaway car, all also by Audioslave, good songs!
You should check out Say Hello 2 Heaven the acoustic version it’s him in 1990 with the band Temple of the Dog which is a supergroup of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. A homage to Andy Wood his roommate back then who died of a heroin overdose. The Seattle scene created so much beautiful music out of the dispare that happened to them back then.
I think the song about his spiritual journey coming too a end phyically anyway (:. But his voice is Sooooooo Powerful and Sooooooo rusty or raspy and deep that it really hits you and connects with you completely on a deeper level PERIOD (:. He is Mind Blowing (:.
I always thought of him talking about the bible. Several verses can be tied to the bible. The bible is a book full of death. Our human body is referred to as a tent and is temporary however our father in heaven is preparing a mansion with many rooms where we will spend eternity. That is where he longs to go. If u listen to it. With that perspective the song takes on a whole new Meaning. At least it did for me.
The devil is cunning, he leeds Chris to death by the disappointment of the human condition. Don't follow, know thier sirenesk voices must be as far as traveled before returning to mercy and forgiveness and acceptance of that forgiveness by the True and Living God, Jesus Christ.

Don’t look up about a song. Before you react to it. That obviously Male for worse reaction.
Its about awaiting death. He speaks of wanting to be in your house...heaven. So he patiently waits like a stone. Alone dead. He regrets his wrongs n feels blessed by things he did good.
It's about a friend he lost in a car accident..
RIP Chris Cornell. Rock is just not the same with so many great artists gone.
Probably the most powerful song ever made in my opinion with a guitar solo out of this world.
I've wanted to share with a few people in my life but it ended up sounded like a love song. That's not where I was coming from.

Very thoughtful reaction to this song.....and the fact that Chris ended up killing himself....you were definitely dialing into the something....
She is a very smart and insightful young lady.
She is an absolute doll
Been enjoying your reactions and journey with music. I see you nailed another explanation of the breakdown. Chris paints a picture with his words and vocals. Many go through pain, but can't explain it as well as him.
Thank you 💕
Definitions for this masterpiece song is quite universal . ... ☺
Great reaction! I feel the same way you did about Chris. He was a soulful guy!! Rock On!

Thank you for always commenting ❤️
He's talking to God, asking to be taken home; released from his depression.
You are a very perceptive young lady. Chris the singer of this song hung himself because of his depression. ❤rest in peace Chris ❤
It’s a song about waiting for death, the band thought it was a love song until they sat and really listened to it, Chris Cornell was a genius.
Rip Chris Cornell you left us way too soon, to me you will always be my favorite rock singer thank you for giving the world your talent may God be with you and your family 🙏

I think at the time, he was writing his own eulogy..so sad we lost one of the greats!! R.I.P. Chris
Thats exactly how I interpret it...

I'm sure you know now....but this song came out years before he took his life. I was and am still crushed.
Stumbled upon a week ago its my all time fav song easy

Shadow Of The Sun - Audioslave. One of the greatest rock songs of all time in my opinion. Give it a listen!
Shadow ON The Sun*
God bless you for mentioning the seriousness of depression a lot of people don’t Thankyou

Omg I know that would have been an amazing concert & yes depression is very serious never know who’s going through it.
Your feeling it. Go with it.
They are unblocking videos I hope y’all see them 😭

It's the genre and a reason for that...some people write happy songs...some folks write sad songs....he was really good at writing sad songs....
Chester died on what would have been Chris' birthday a few months after Chris' passing. RIP both true legends and brave but tortured souls. Mental health & depression can hit anybody. Never be afraid to ask for help if you feel down;
This dude was in so much emotional pain when he wrote this
It's hard to listen to this knowing that Chris took his own life. Brings me to tears every time.

He is singing about reading the bible and his struggle with faith. His desire to get into heaven and his own conviction
Bless you
RIP Chris brother
It's interesting that this woman saw what many of did not. She's soulful and needs how to read people.

R.I.P. Chris Cornell
Wow, you're wonderful.
You’re very insightful for a young woman!
The devil is cunning, he leeds Chris to death by the disappointment of the human condition.

♥️
All i can say is r.i.p Chris Cornell
You hit the nail right on the head about him being depressed. He killed himself sweetie
I feel like he's longing for something he does know of .
Chris is soulful, I think he had a hard time family wise, he had a drug problem at times
Our guy just wanted to know God.
My house has many rooms? From the Bible. His seeking god in theses rooms. You can find a description in a video where the song is described

Its about an older Man who's wife has died and he is waiting to die so he can be reunited with her again ...sadly.
Idk if this was a letter or not. Either way, seems he had hope, otherwise why wait?
Depression = Loss of Faith
Chris is telling you much more. He's searching for God. He lost his faith.
Such a cute young lady.

great song but Morello and that stupid Maoist hat drives me nuts. Shit is so offensive to anyone who lived under that system. great reaction though
You're beautiful
Your a beautiful sole
Beautiful lips
Depression is not real , it’s just un motivated people complaining.
you thought you said something smart
I was lost... iin the pages of a book full of death IMO a reference to the Bible.
If you've ever read it it's definitely a book full of death
