On “that” scene, Iroh got the chance to be a father again, and Zuko, the chance to be a son again. So beautiful

The badger moles respond to love in the cartoon and the live action. In the cartoon it was Katara and Aang loving each other ... Aang is a literal CHILD so the sibling love in the live action version makes waaaay more sense IMO

Aang was a teenager. Teenagers feel love, you know. They completely took out the Kataang element and I don't like it. I'm not a "shipper" by any means, but Aang's love for Katara was a major part of the story. Maybe not as much in Book 1, but they better get on it for season 2 because it was the whole reason why Aang left his Avatar training; because he couldn't let go of Katara

Katara's like 2 years older than he is, what was she 14 in the cartoon iirc?

@@theunderdog9353Aang was NOT. A teenager in the original book 1. That type of relationship would not translate well in live action. At least not this early. We have to make peace with the fact that motivations and characterizations in a children’s show will not be the same as in live action because they are 2 completely different mediums.

on my second and third watch through I found Bumi oddly refreshing this time around; don't get me wrong I love classic Bumi and in this version he is just the same but a realistic version where Bumi is upset that his best friend left him & the world 100 years ago and was traumatized by the war.
His entire goal in this episode is to teach Aang how to be the Avatar and how as The Avatar he needs to make impossible choices. This is a reoccurring theme that almost everyone in the series who meets aang tries to teach him

It actually makes more sense that the classic Bumi. Same for Gran Gran, people didn't like her attitude but forget that these persons lived an almost full life of war and suffering, so it's normal that they are more bitter and defiant.

This episode had so much purpose and intention behind it, especially with Zuko/Iroh and King Bumi's characterization. Really happy to see fans of the old show appreciate and acknowledge the creativity and nuance of this new version. The first three episodes lacked soul for me, but this one really just took it home.

Yes in the animated version she does that exact move to jet in the jet episode..like it’s ripped right from the show.

Yeah, that funeral scene hit like a truck. Say what you want about this adaptation, but when it does something good, it is really good.

I absolutely love this episode. My favorite of the entire series. 9/10 to me. The only change I wasn’t too keen on was the change to the badgermoles and how they sense the world around them and see

Yes it's true I had forgotten that episode 4 was good too, but you'll see the rest is even better, especially episode 6 which is my favorite with the 2nd and 8th. I've already finished the series, but I'm looking forward to season 2

About the KATAANG situation, I acc definately think that they will choose to introduce that fully in SEASON 2
And remeber in season 1, it was aang who had the cush on her she acc friend-zoned him and truly caught feelings later.
Cause think about it! When the actor who plays Aang was casted, he was 11/12 in real life; Katara's actress was 14.
But now (2024), Aangs actor is 14 and Katara's is 16, so i think when they start shooting season 2, they'll be at a more appropriate mid-teen age to act out romantic scenes effectively.
Even in interviews I was GAGGED cause Aang's actor Gordon Cormier's voice is already breaking and he's almost her height now😵 It is also realistic cause boys are naturally smaller than girls up until puberty and then have a massive growth spurt.
Cause they CANNOT butcher KATAANG 😂🙏 they gotta be older enough to act out them scenes in a non-cheesey/cringe way. A cartoon can pull it off and yes, we usually do have first crushes/kisses at 12-15 years of age. BUT it will just look weird he looks like such a small cute lil baby😭

Katara's actor is about to turn 18. Unless they wait until 2028 to film, when Gordon is 18, I'm certain Kataang won't be happening. If they were ok with adult actors kissing minors on screen, there would have been a Jet/Katara kiss.
