I worked at a Thai food truck with a lady that was born and raised in Thailand. Drunken noodle was one of our best sellers. I don't know if it's true, but the backstory she told me was that there was a woman whose husband was always coming home drunk and asking her to make him food. She got upset one time and made this really spicy noodle dish thinking that it would be so spicy that he would never ask her to make drunk food for him again. In a twist of events, the husband ended up loving the dish and then it became popular. Probably just food folklore, but still an entertaining story.
I heard it ia called drunken noodles because it is so spicy you need to drink multiple drinks when eating it.
This is the exact story for Nashville hot chicken so I wonder if either is true
If my wife cooked like that I'd quit drinking
Gotta love the food folklore thanks for sharing!
Ha! This is the same origin story/myth of Nashville hot fried chicken! Husband comes home drunk, angry wife makes super spicy food to get back at him, he ends up loving it and a classic, world famous dish is born!
I love noodles and their texture, but the way Joshua describes the taste makes the dish even more tempting.
*papa
Excuse me it's "uncle Joshua"
You should do But Easier, where you make a super complicated dish and an easier version like this. It would be an actually comparable taste test.
Would be down for this, and we all know he has tons of great recipes that could greatly benefit from dumbing down.
It exists. It's a channel called Adam Ragusea
@@ilikevideos4868 Was interested to see if that was a low-key burn, but no, it seems I have a new channel to check out
@@odzk1757 Adam’s video became a meme a while ago, idk if u heard but for the why I season my chopping board instead of my steak or something along the lines 😭
Tonkotsu ramen!!!
This was great! I made this with the following tweaks: instead of the peppers, I added a heaping cup microwave steamed Broccoli cut small, instead of the rice noodles I used 2 packs of cooked cheap ramen without packets. I added in a leftover sauteed chicken breast, sliced up. For the sauce, I had no fish sauce, I doubled the 2 soys and oyster, added 1tsp ginger paste, 1tsp sambal. Made enough for 3 people! I will definitely be making this often! ❤
THANK YOU!!!! I found a decent recipe somewhere online to make for my wife. This will go a lot farther with the simplicity that you walk through this. AND I just asked about this recipe two weeks ago!!! You are by far the easiest person to learn new dishes from! THANK YOU!!!
It’s people like you who are kind enough to share your knowledge and recipes on youtube/ the internet so I can cook my wife a nice dinner or try something new…or finally find a recipe for all of my dried Asian noodles in my pantry too, so thanks a million!
Kee Mao. My favorite thing to mix with an "Evil" curry. It's kinda true that other veg is just tossed in like stir fry. The chow fun noodle and basil with sambal are the only things I find consistent amongst the different Thai restaurants in Hawaii. Your sauce profile and wok action are definitely a must. Nothing better when using tofu than to have that wok char on it from that thicc sauce. Makes the tofu so good. Me likey.
I hope people make this (in a wok). Kee Mao is the best
Great recipe as always! I know this will probably get lost in the comments but I just want to thank you. I’ve had a really tough time trying to figure out what is it I want to do. Trying your recipes & it actually turning out good made me realize how much I love being in the kitchen. I feel like I unlocked a new level in my life and it feels exciting. I may be late for the party but at least I’m here now.
aint lost here. GOT GET THAT THIS!
As a Thai guy, even though that it still missing some important ingredients like young pepper corn and fingerroot which can increasing the hotness of your dish (ofcourse, the authentic one supposed to be really HOT and SPICY in order to sober people from hangover), but it's still acceptable due to the availability of ingredient.
I APPROVED 👍
Uncle Joshua. Next time, add a bit more chilli and some fresh young pepper corn. The one here is already awesome but you can still make it better!
Those young peppercorns on the vine that are brined in a jar?
@@coreyw5981 Yup! Those fresh young one
I like the idea about making it hotter 🔥
Yes I have it hotter too. So good
Uncle? It's Papa and always will be Papa
I made this recipe almost exactly, the only difference is I took the garlic and 4 of the red chiles and smashed them in my mortar and pestle. This was AMAZING. The heat was perfect and the sauce was delectable. Now that I have all ingredients needed, I will definitely make this again. Very easy and delicious. Thank you Josh!
I love this dish and actually use brown sugar along with sweet soy sauce, the results are incredible
it looks delicious 🤸
in Indonesia we have something like that with additional toppings of prawn crackers, diced pickled cucumber, and dark soysauce in our country we have a sweeter version so that everything is balanced
Josh I don’t know how you do it, but your videos somehow turn me into the greatest chef in the world, you’re videos never cease to amaze
Simple. Quick. Easy. Delicious.
THIS is how your recipes should be my guy. 😎👌
I've only had this in soup form, can't wait to try it like this.
there should be more 'soup forms' for things
Josh is just amazing in terms of array of different cuisines.
Pad Kee mao story pretty much goes that it's so spicy that you have to be absolutely plastered on order to eat it. I also recommend using a pestel and mortar for the garlic and chilies to make a chili garlic paste so you can really get that flavor
This is one of the shortest videos you've made in a while. Can't wait to try this!
I am going to try this , but combining Chef Johns recipe from 2 weeks ago. Plus swapping some regular garlic for some black garlic you taught me how to make. Loving that Sahara Dehydrator.
addeda little spin bc my cabinets are empty but for a lunch after a big end of year exam.. THAT WAS REALLY GOOD THANK YOU JOSHHH!!
I’m currently addicted to this dish😍. Most def will try this recipe 🥰👏🏾
The best! Thank you so much for this recipe. It's so simple and my family loved it a lot
literally just began looking for a quick noodle recipe with ingredients i already have and boom! Josh uploads
Josh I think making some Persian dieshes would be amazing :)
“Tahchin” or “Kebab” for example… guess u will love them
Yes!!!! I would love to see that ... also other famous Persian dishes such as “Ghormeh Sabzi”
yes as fellow persian i’ve always wanted to see this but i just know its going to be filled with comments like ‘no! it must be this! no it must be that!’ 😂
Also... Döner
@@parryhotter4283 A recipe for proper Döner would be great.
@@cerdjee4918 Andong has done that, as living in Germany he has a lot of döner shops to choose from.
Definitely worth a watch if you're not familiar with his channel.
Pad Kee Mao is one of my favorites. I use ground pork instead of chicken. Thai restaurant down the road throws julienned celery and green beans in theirs which adds an interesting crunch.
Drunken noodles are a throat goat meal
I now know what I’m having for lunch! Thanks for the video! 😋
Pounding the garlic and chilli makes a very surprising big difference in taste. Also, this needs to be spiced up a bit with more chilli. Thai holy basil also boost the dish trememdously.
I agree with you on the pounding pre cooking. Also I prefer to use a mixture of Thai holy basil and sweet basil.
Would a mortar and pestle do? I have one of those.
Are we missing the part where three chilli's were used for a dish that looks like it would serve only two? While it's not going to be flaming hot this looks like it'll be spicy enough already
@@shardj5151 Definitely not enough for most asians.
@@ItsJustLisa pound the garlic(peeled) and chilli until fairly crushed. This way more essential oil and flavornoid get into the oil much more. Dont make a paste though.
The place I got this from puts sweet peppers and tomato slices in it. I love it.
My favorite Thai dish. So simple, but SO tasty.
Omg YES YES YES, I absolutely LOVE the drunken noodles from my local Thai restaurant. I've tried to replicate it but I can never get the flavor just right.
have to stir fry it for the most part.
Turns out I've been making this for the past few years and didn't know it was an actual dish, haha. Props to covering this one and enlightening me, Josh!
Drunken noodles are the most underrated stir fried thing out there imo
Josh are you reading my mind now? I was looking up drunken noodle recipes at 2am… way before you posted this video.
Love the quicker recipe please make more like these in the future.
I can see why you have over 6 million subs! Excellent video, thank you!
I use the same ingredients with udon, and occasionally I’ll add a tiny bit of lime juice or a squirt of ketchup to the sauce mix. And maybe prawns instead of chicken sometimes! Amazing!
Just made this , it's quick , easy & delicious.
Keep up the good work & I'll look forward to the next one 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I've been waiting my whole subscriber life for this video.
I was watching one of your older videos (early 2020, I believe) and you were thanking people for 500k subscribers.
Well congrats to you! About 2 more years and you've added nearly another 6 MILLION subs since then. 👍🏻👍🏻 That's some major growth.
I love your videos cause they give me motivation to cook instead of heading out to buy food
that was my favourite b-roll of all time amazing work !
You can use just about any noodle in a pinch with this too. I've made this using lo mein noodles and thick spaghetti and both were amazing
Tteokbokki would be a damn good idea for the channel. I can imagine "Tteokbokki 3 ways"... Traditional, with cream and lardons, and maybe a fancy one ? or one with some sort of green sauce. Some sort of pesto maybe.
Pesto and gochujang bring an interesting color visual to the mind. Lmao
Been following u for a while man and I gotta say u cook so good and makes it look so clean and easy and efficient. Brah good job papa 👏
Dude i been watching ur snap stories so long i didnt realize you had a youtube channel, imma enjoy my nights better now
Drunken Noodles is my favorite dish to get at Thai restaurants. I will definitely try this one at home! Thank you!
Yes!! Been waiting for this one!! Love drunken noodles
Looks delish! I so look forward to the 2 day of the week when JW posts new videos!
Need uncle Rodgers approval🤪👌🏻 Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a great day everyone 🌻
Just made it! Amazing! And easy.
Yes, wide rice noodles ARE shockingly hard to find. I was finally able to buy a package at my regular grocery store a couple weeks ago, but had been searching for months before that, even after checking in a couple of the specialty stores in my city. I just checked again at the store yesterday, and they're all gone.
You can use spaghetti or instant noodle for substituted.
I've been trying to be more adventurous with food because textures can be really scary even if they happen in 'safe' foods that I'm familiar with so I ordered tofu drunken noodles from one of the local Thai places and they put the most random things in them, I loved it. The noodles were as wide as lasagna noodles and they put grilled romaine hearts in it. My favorite part, besides the level of spice, was the fried basil.
Nice! My neighbor is Thai and she showed me a drunken noodle recipe that uses the skinnier noodles...pumped to try this with those thicc boy noodles 👌
So dude greetings from Poland. Finally been able to buy your book here. Na zdrowie!
In the kitchen wrist twisting like a stir fry 🕺
I think I asked for this in one of your last videos and I'm so happy you pulled through. Got to make this tomorrow God bless you Josh.
i tried drunken noodles two weeks ago and i like it a lot!!! now i’m here thank you Josh!!
Looks delicious and beautiful! Thank you very much for sharing! 👍👍👍
Aw, man. I love it when I watch one of your vids and I go, "Yep, got that. Got that. Got that..." with the whole of the ingredients list.
I made this today and it was amazing. I have a shitty wok and an induction stove in my apartment, but even with subpar equipment the results would excellent!
Prob my favorite noodle dish! Thanks for sharing papa
Looks so good!!! ❤️
It is already delicious as is, but you can throw in some fresh peppercorns and kaffir lime leaves to make it more authentic. (Not necessary, only if you already have them in your pantry.)
i really love ur videos and yu taught me to cook. thank you for being there for me😁
I love those thick rice noodles, no matter how it is cooked any which way.
I like the lower energy. Makes papa sound humble. Fuyooooh
Thé mmmnmmmmbrmmmmmm is the best description of drunk eating 😂 I’ve ever heard …. 😜
I really loved your recipe. Your content is an inspiration for me. Thank you for making such content. Learning from the og
I like that whatever veggies you add to drunken noodles, it always tastes amazingly good.
Fyi, I live for B- ROLL ❣️
Amazing rice noodle dish by using simple ingredients, nicely done josh
Thanks alot for making it so accessible. This was bomb!
A great dish! Pad Kee Mao is one of my favorites, even over Pad Thai. I'm spoiled since I'm in Thailand, and this only costs around $1.10 US. Same as my other favorite, pineapple fried rice. Oh, and the curries!!!!
i seriously cant stop watching your videos :) help
Wow, this looks delicious! I really don’t know how you do it. Again, you never fail to inspire me to improve my own channel. Thanks man, from a fellow foodie in the U.K 😀
I love your jingles
I nearly exploded seeing this dish on your channel. All time favorite noodle dish, cant eait to try!!!
So simple, Yet watching makes me want to make it, and you cant really beat the Overall Cost of ingredients either!
Dont worry papa, i saw the dolly zoom at 0:54. Keep up the high quality video making
we called it Kwetiao... and we love it..
the one of ancestor gift...
I was craving drunken noodles and was hoping Joshua would make a video for this. You read my mind!!!!

Drunken noodles is my fav Thai dish !!! Jet Tila isn’t the only version I can make now lol
Thank you very much for making this.
I'll be trying it.
this 4 minute vid is one of your funniest
Just made this tonight and my God is this so good!
Been waiting for this 🤘🏻 SO GOOD
I tried this recipe today but i made it in a slightly different way.
For the sauce i used 3 coffe spoons of soy sauce, 2 of teriyaki and 1 of mirin.
Then i added some tosted almonds on top.
This is by far the best noodle dish i have ever tasted😍😍
Since my Gamer Tag for almost 20 years has been DrunkenProphet I will now adopt this as my official food.
I love your B-Rolls ❤️
We need Subway Cookies, for some reason they are so good - Don’t usually have fast food but this is like the only thing I get from a fast food place - But Better Subway cookies please!
Your thumbnails are so artistic.
Pad kee mao

I’d love to see a sichuan dan dan recipe from you as there are so many different versions of the same dish
Great recipe, and beautiful knife!
