True story, I sang in a group with Martin in the early 80's in Northern California. He did a duet with my best friend and was brilliant at duets even then. His voice was already spectacular and powerful as a teenager, and even though we were all kids I never forgot him, he was that good. He was also a really nice guy.
Martin Nievera in his prime in the 90s had the most beautiful voice among our male singers. As the story goes, he saw Regine perform one time and brought her to his show Penthouse Live where Regine met her would-be-manager Ronnie Henares, who was so impressed with her. In fact it is Martin who gave Regine her new name "Regine". At the time she was known as Chona Velasquez when she won the national singing competition. And the rest as they say is history...
Martin is also the one who believes and supported KZ Tandigans Talent and supported her all the way to music. He even walked KZ on aisle when she got married. Like he is Dad to KZ in music industry. That's why Martin is a wonderful guy. And pure voice talent as well. He is a legend in Philippines music industry but kept to be a low profile. Seems our Ovela only one who has a good eyes in ear of spotting and appreciate a real talent without bias. And make funny face about Martin's performance You're a great guy.
