Japan: 9.2 Earthquake Scenario in Real Time (Nankai)

Вставка
  • Опубліковано 23 бер 2024
  • Here's a hypothetical scenario simulation of a magnitude 9.2 earthquake on the Nankai Subduction Zone in Japan.
    ----------------
These simulations along with my piano music (Spotify/UA-cam: ‪@pardonmypiano‬) are part of my lifelong project called "In Terra Pax" that aims to bring financial and emotional support to victims affected by earthquakes around the world.
    ------------------------
I hope that my simulations will educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards and create more curiosity about Earth Science in general. I do also hope that my videos will inspire a future generation of amazing architects, engineers and scientists! We all need to peacefully work together to make this world a better place. :)

For those who don't know, the future Nankai Earthquake is considered Japan's own 'Big One', in much the same way the San Andreas Fault's future Big One is treated for San Francisco. A lot of effort, research and engineering work has gone into preparing for and mitigating the effects of this earthquake, so that when it eventually does happen, hopefully the preparations will have paid off.

Earthquakes are very common in Japan. However, this has positive aspects.
In many countries, an earthquake of magnitude 6-7 can be devastating. In Japan, people go about their daily lives without worrying about earthquakes of that magnitude. Buildings are also built with earthquakes in mind, so they are not damaged by that level of earthquake.
Even in Japan, an earthquake of magnitude 8 to 9 on the Richter scale causes a big commotion. However, people help each other and riots do not occur. Some buildings are damaged, but most buildings are still safe.

Perhaps a similar video could be done for Cascadia, though it would be interesting to experiment with partial ruptures of the Cascadia megathrust in the range of magnitude 8.0-8.8, or perhaps different epicenters rather than just sticking to Northern California, as that hasn't really been done before on UA-cam.

Thank you for making a video like this!
The Nankai Trough mega-earthquake is a really big earthquake, and we know it best.
However, this is not widely known overseas. That's why videos like this are so important.
However, due to the periodic nature of Nankai Trough mega-earthquakes, it is said that there are about 30 years left until they occur. What is most urgent right now is a major earthquake directly hitting our nation's capital.
Please pray that the number of victims of a major earthquake will be reduced as much as possible.

      それと、鎌倉よりも横浜の方が大都市なので、被害も大きそうです。もっとも、800年の歴史と遺産の残る地域は鎌倉ですが。
      ちなみに横浜が開拓され始めたのは、東京と同じ300年前くらいからです。
Also, since Yokohama is a larger city than Kamakura, the damage is likely to be greater. However, Kamakura is an area with 800 years of history and heritage.
By the way, Yokohama began to be developed around 300 years ago, the same time as Tokyo.

This doesn't seem right, that's not how the earthquakes happen. I can only assume you are trying to scare people and spear panic. Why would you do that?

This simulation shows how long it would take for a large quake to rupture the subduction zone :) all I did was to use publicly available scenario/ shake map data generated by official agencies, information which is well known and studied.

You probably never been in a major quake or even near one.
Im 2 countries away from turkey and still felt like the whole building will fall on me back when the turkey earthquake happened in 2023, the epicenter is 340km away from me and it was just 7.8.
You think 9+ are fkng easy??
They can rupture anywhere from 500km to 1500km if not more.

      それと、富士山が噴火するかもしれません…そうなれば、いよいよ日本の首都は壊滅です…(´;ω;`)
Also, Mt. Fuji may erupt...If that happens, Japan's capital will finally be destroyed...(´;ω;`)
