I used to ride everyday before I found cars. I was also broke as hell, trying to get by in College.
I ended up riding again and one thing I agree with...what the hell even are New Harleys? My Milwaukee 8 spent more time broken then running. I never abused it, followed maintenance, but it just kept giving me another reason to buy another part for it. I got all the "Common M8" issues right outside of Warranty Period...wonderful. Comp Ramp, Electrical Issues, Oil Pump, the whole nine yards, I got THAT unlucky. After 16K miles...good riddance. I still ride today, but not on a Harley! I usually love American Vehicles, but I'm not going back!!

I had to do a double take too, I thought it was my Dad’s bike (he passed in 2017). I inherited his bike, but it was just too big for me to drive. He was a burly Harley guy who looked every inch the scary biker (he actually WAS in an outlaw club in his youth, gave it all up when he met my Mom) and I’m a small, petite woman. I could barely get the thing upright by myself!
I wound up selling it, and he’d taken enough care and put enough aftermarket chrome on it that I got an offer before we’d even unloaded the bike trailer at the dealership. 😂

When I was a kid, Mom had a red Indian that she rode to work everyday (she was a Highschool teacher) and all of the other neighborhood kids would watch her ride it sometimes. She was eventually forced to get a real car when me and my sister started going to school, so she got a green Outback she called Fiona. Then a few years before she died, she got a big black Harley that she was way too small for. Miss ya mom 🫡

The Twin Cam is the engine people think of when they think of a stereotypical Harley, whether they know it or not . Old heads will think of a panhead or a shovelhead, but the twin cam enjoyed an almost 20-year production cycle the longest of any Harley engine, and it was the engine that Harley was using in the motorcycle boom of the late '90s and early 2000s.

Got into two decent wrecks since she was a bad driver. In like the 20 years my father rode, never an accident, bike might have tipped over, but never a "NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL" accident like my mother. Both Hospital trips were not SUPERFICIAL, but not terrible. Don't think she ever needed stitches or casts, just bruised badly. Since my father was an instructor as well, so our family was SUPER big on wear jeans, and long sleeved shirts MINIMUM. Dad would Jeans and Leather Jacket up for long rides. Daaaamn, my respect for you just skyrocketed.
I am also a motorbike guy, but I'm faithful to one model - Suzuki DL650. Had a 2006 one for years, sold it to try choppers, bought 2009 Honda Shadow 750, did about 1000 km on it, sold it and bought 2011 DL650 :D
It's 650 cc V2, stock 67 HP, remapped to Japanese engine map to get about 98 HP, with optional Touring kit. I was through hell with this bugger, and it never failed me.
Funny thing - since SV650 in 1999, Suzuki is putting THE SAME EXACT ENGINE to all SV650 and DL650 models, even the ones presented this year. This is the same, exact engine, they developed in 1999, it's so good, they still do it the same way and put it to brand new SVs and DLs.

Bikes are just one of those things I would LOVE to be a part of the culture of because they're SO interesting. I wanna be clear I HAVE the option it's just UNGODLY unsafe where I live, hell it's unsafe in a TRUCK let alone a car or even a bike.

We all own Honda’s and they are all more than 10 years old when we got them, with more than 10000 miles in each and they are BEASTS. Obviously things are gonna be replaced with time but you’re able to rebuild everything but the engine cuz it’ll just last forever. So fun to work on, super easy to understand and fix.
