      True
      Temperature is usually the main culprit, but clean glassware, proper pouring, and clean beer lines are also other factors 👍

    Thanks cuz I just got a bartending spot at the casino I work at . I have been a cocktail server for 6 years so I know the drinks and how to make them but I’m still a newbie . I start in 2 weeks but I went to pour a draft when changing a keg and the bartender working said I wasn’t pouring it right . Well he was right so now I know how to pour it !

      Girl I feel you. I have been a cocktail server at my casino for 6 years then covid hit . So I’ve been back for a year but they didn’t bring servers back so I have been a porter aka a bar back so I stock the bar all night . I already know how to make the drinks and what’s in them but I started learning behind the bar from the bartenders . Well long story short a bartender spot opened and I got the job. I start in 2 weeks . I’ve been behind the bar giving bartenders breaks but casino bartending is super intense and busy. The thing is because of covid some of the original bartenders didn’t get to come back to the casino ( they were offered to work there in different departments but said no) so now there is like 5 bartenders that have done it for many years one has bartended for 30 years but I got this spot over them because I stayed and worked the shit jobs at the casino. So they are all super pissed that I got it because I am brand new at bartending . Anyway ; I got a lot to learn as well. I know the drinks for the most part but it is still intimidating, especially at a casino. I decided last night I’m not gonna stress or overthink it I’m just gonna have fun with it . One of my fellow bartenders who has been there 12 years told me if I overthink I will fuck up. He said I’m gonna do great and to just chill out . Anyway best of luck you posted this 6 months ago so I’m sure by now your a pro. I’ve been training for 2 months behind the bar when I’ve had down time so I know our system and I know the drinks . I got this and can’t wait to start . It will be life changing money

    Wish American beer glasses were about 18 oz, with a mark at the pint. Then i wouldnt mind the foam. Especially when you are paying a lot for a pint, you dont want an inch of fosm. Prefwr the European glasses that actually have a the 0,5 L mark about an inch below the top. Great video, thanks.

    Bartender from Germany here :D Really interesting to see something like this, espescially because most of my time serving customers, im actually pouring draft beer. Here, it really is a sign of quality if there is a proper foam on the beer, otherwise its considered old or stale. Also, you have to be much more careful when pouring, because german beer foams much easier then american. I think the whole culture around beer is much more complex here. Right away I can think of at least 5 types of beers, served in completely different glassware or measurements.
    On the other hand, craft cocktails are -unfortunately- not even slightly as popular as in e.g. the U.S.
    Anyways, keep up the good work, love watching your vids, Greetings from Bavaria! ;)

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  5 років тому +16

      Hey Sebastian, thanks for your comments on life in Germany pouring beers. I believe you might be right about beers having more foam in Germany. Many of the common American beers are not complex at all. However, the craft beer movement has really taken off over here with breweries popping up all over the country attempting to make great quality draft beers.
      With that said, it will take quite a bit to match the Germany beer culture and quality.

    I just started my first ever bartending job at a movie theater this week. Being a movie theater, we can't let people have glass in a dark theater, so we use plastic cups. Is there anything I need to do different pouring into a plastic cup and not a glass?

      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  4 роки тому +17

      Hey Paul. First, congrats on the job. No, there is nothing to do different with the plastic cup, and in fact chilled glasses can often cause the beer to foam up, so it should actually be easier with the plastic. Best of luck.

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  5 років тому +8

      Hi Owen, as I mention in the video, there are a lot of factors that can go into beer foam, and most likely yours has to do with the keg system itself. Some of them are simply foamy and there's nothing you can do about it. That's going to be an owner/manager issue that they would need to fix.

    • @highsierra6463
      @highsierra6463 5 років тому +6

      Best tips I can give are to always pull from the bottom never the top and pull the tap all the way so it’s coming out as fast as it can don’t pull it half way. And make sure you start with holding the glass at an angle.

    • @kjp2404
      @kjp2404 5 років тому +1

      Sometimes on taps you need to pull them all the way down or forward straight away. On some if you slowly pull it and not all the way to the end, it'll just pour with a lot of foam.. If that makes sense haha

    I used to frequent a bar in the old part of Galveston which boasted it had 40 draft beers from around the world. One evening I ordered my first pint and the bartender just sat the glass under the spout and poured straight into the glass. Needless to say it foamed over the rim before the glass was even one third full of beer. He then let it sit for several minutes while attending to other customers and then repeated the sequence. From placing my order to actually getting the beer took more than 5 minutes. I mentioned to him that he was not using the correct technique and if he worked in a pub in England (where I am from) he would have been fired on the first night. The whining little so-and-so went and told the manager who came and said 'So, I suppose you know better than we do?", to which I replied that "Yes I do" and got immediately kicked out!

    Is there a trick to pouring a draft beer when someone wants it dressed with salt? I always get slightly annoyed when someone asks for one because every time someone wants a bud light or a Michelob Ultra, there’s always too much foam and not enough beer and so I have to keep pouring it out which results in the salt washing away on half of the rim which obviously ruins what the customer wanted.

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  4 роки тому +4

      Hey Ayyee, yes, this can be challenging. This is common when people order Micheladas. There is a trick, but if you simply have draft beer that foams like crazy, there's not much you can do.
      For a lot of keg systems, the very first pull on the draft handle has the most foam come out right at first, so after you salt the rim, if you pull the handle without the glass under the tap, just for a second to get that initial foam out of the way, then shut it off. Then put the glass under the tap at a 45 degree angle and slowly pull the handle so the flow comes out smooth. This usually helps, but again, if the draft system sucks, there really is no solution except to get a new draft system or have them come in and fix the current problem.

    I ordered some rubber caps , , and we put them on at closing time , saves dust and fruit flies etc from getting in the taps, and yes fruit flies will fly in there ! They even have small brushes on the insides that help clean them .

  • @sandysreviews1386
    @sandysreviews1386 8 днів тому

    That beer was perfect. I wish I could do it like that at work, in Australia at my place of work we have to do it in 3 pours. It’s so stupid, the taps are all new and updated so you don’t have to slowly release the gas anymore but people are so set in their ways and you have to let it sit between each pour and people complain about the foam between pours… obviously there is going to be foam between pours because it’s supposed to set on the head.
    It’s so frustrating. I’m only just starting out and some beers I can do perfect but there are a few that are much harder and should be done on the one pour because of the gas/foam but the regulars think they know what creates a perfect beer *sigh*. I really don’t think I’m cut out for this 😂

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  5 місяців тому +1

      What I'm saying is that master brewers are attempting to mimmic the wine culture by making it a thing to have a big head on the beer for the purposes of increasing the aroma, when in reality, most of beer drinkers want more beer, not foam. A little foam is as aromatic as a lot of foam, so what constitutes a "properly poured beer" is up for debate. Cheers.

    Oh FINALLY someone who knows how to pour a beer 😅
    I'm not a bartender. I service/clean/build draft beer systems. So, question for a real bartender!!
    When it comes to cans/bottles, it's generally better to still pour it into a glass to release the carbonation. I see all kinds of videos of people showing how to pour from a can or bottle, and they suggest you aggressively pour the beer straight down, no tilt, or running it down the side. They always end up with a wild pour, half the glass is foam and they have to let it settle before they can pour the rest. How do you pour from a can or bottle? I've always done it the same as if I was pouring a draft beer, as you showed in the video. I'm curious how you'd pour it.

    • @DaveAllredTheRealBarman
      @DaveAllredTheRealBarman  2 місяці тому

      You're dead on. I would pour from a bottle the same way I pour my draft beers: hold the glass at a 45 degree angle and pour the beer down the inside of the glass and let it run down to the bottom to avoid too much foam.
