Thank you for sharing your story - I can relate to it a lot. My scrupulosity has been a little different in the way it presents itself, but that feeling that the Atonement works for others and not for me, that has been a huge disheartening effect of scrupulosity. And feeling like you can't go on ... I know that feeling. Right now I feel like I'm in a pit and only Christ can pull me out of it. Thank you for sharing your testimony of Christ. I need to look back on times when I felt His presence and His love to hold onto now.

Keep trying - I promise it will get better. I’ve experienced scrupulosity, but I’ve found healing and progress. Check out Brain Lock, The continuous atonement, and “The OCD Mormon” for some good resources.
I'm not LDS and never will be, but I look to the LDS dedication and commitment to their faith as something to aspire to in my walk with the Lord. Many Christians do not study scripture or pray like they should, including me, but LDS people know their scriptures and many are very active in their church. I recently found out my great, great grandparents were mormon, so maybe that's why I find it so interesting.

The best thing I heard was when President Nelson said that Perfection does not come in this life. I was so grateful for this tender mercy. We have to give ourselves grace. That is something that I find beautiful in other Christian sects. Great podcast. The Lord loves you lady
Thank you, both of you! I’m a 74 year old woman who has dealt with these issues on and off. I joined the Church 48 years ago and have sometimes served in 3-5 callings at a time while living in small branches. We have now lived in this ward for 26 years and I served in so many areas. Even in two different temples. When I was suddenly released from teaching Gospel Doctrine about 3 years, I was devastated. I loved the prep and teaching g others. Boom- gone! I can’t express the lost feeling, the fear that suddenly the Lord did not approve of me, when I had felt Him confirm His approval. Since then, I have not been called to serve, give a talk or participate. I do serve in The Family History Center and have done so since 1991, so 8!don’t see it as a calling- just fun to help others. Our two sons have left the church and I often wonder what I did to cause this. We have been faithful and strong, yet, I am very lonely in the church. So, it’s so good to listen to this podcast! Thank you!

Sometimes. As we get to our 70's thre comes time to rest a bit. Currently I just lead the Sacrament meeting hymns. I know every week Primary or Nursery needs substitutes. Be one of those ladies! I have never taught Gospel Doctrine. That would have scared me to death. Tell the bishop you want a calling. Tell the Lord and He will direct you. I know, best love comes from serving others. Doing what Jesus did. He worked and worked HIS short life on this earth until He worked his ultimate sacrifice to give us our lives back in a kingdom of our choice. Thank you Jesus.
Tanya you already have salvation, you’ve been baptized and you believe in him. Salvation is not dependent on works. This episode is very tender. I was the mission health advisor recently and we had missionaries that struggled with religious scrupulosity and it was hard for them to manage. We had an excellent mission counselor that was so helpful for those that struggle. There were so many times we had to reassure the missionaries that they are doing better and more than we give ourselves credit for.

I didn't know what this word meant but when I saw it I had the impression that I should listen to it.
I have in some ways done the same things with cleaning. However, I started hurting myself on accident as I was doing my job that I had to stop trying so hard to be perfect which was really hard.
I also felt the same way you had when it comes to feeling Christ atonement for me. I know it works for others but I felt as I was working on myself that if I did bad even one day, thats it I was done. Working on how to help myself change with the saviors help it very hard. We are used to doing things that are wrong that it's hard to change.

Scrupulosity is a term I have never heard before. I learned much about what I've always termed 'perfectionism' from this dear sister. Wonderful interview!
It’s a form of OCD. Religious OCD.
This has to be my favorite episode so far. I relate to her more than I can even say. I shut down for years and years because I just never felt like I could be good enough to be in church. Luckily through personal revelation I'm coming back around. Thank you for sharing your story Tanya!! You are amazing!!!!
So funny, I was awful in my math classes, but in college brought my old algebra book to my apt. and read through it, skipped many levels and finished the math required for my degree in one semester, amazing how much you can learn when you're not forced to ;) Great channel, this is much more uplifting than the shock factor/annoying "LDS guy channels" that sometimes contentious and no good spirit is present, this channel is a breath of fresh air.
Scrupulosity controlled my life for 8 years. At my worst I wouldn't hug people, watch G-rated Disney movies, or listen to music that wasn't church related or instrumental. I confessed to my bishop frequently for things that weren't sins. During my third year at BYU-Idaho I hit a point where it all collapsed on me and i was forced to seek treatment. Today I work as a counselor treating Scrupulosity. Its so hard, but recovery is possible!
Its so wonderful seeing people talking about it now. At the time nobody was.

Just wow, I guess your on here to belittle others still. You are the one who needs to be taught about Christ. He doesn't sit there and belittle others beliefs. He was the example of how to show live to ALL no matter the religious denomination
@@trishachristensen7667 Jesus came to give the Gospel to restore our relationship with Him, and to save people from hell. He also warned us that false prophets and gospels would come. Why isn't the Gospel in the Bible the same as in the BOM? Why has Joseph Smith's translation of BOA been proven false?

He NEVER went and bashed other religions.
Just because you don't believe in the BOfM doesn't mean it's not true. Hindu people don't believe in the Bible. Why don't you tell them where they are going! Please worry about your own salvation. You can only save your self. We don't believe that because your not a member of this church that you are going to hell.
If that is what you believe I don't want any part of your religion. I believe in a just God
@@MaryLeonard-mj9ng the BofM compliments the Bible. We read and study both. Have you read the BofM? If you did you would have a much greater understanding of how it compliments the Bible. But it's better to read one of these scriptures than none at all. We love our Christian brothers and sisters!

I used to make monthly wall charts with poster board (1980-90s) and made a huge list of everything the prophets said a good Molly Mormon should do. From grinding wheat, sewing clothes, not working outside the home, to temple work, genealogy, and never getting angry (I now know anger is good, it’s a red flag that our boundaries are being violated).
I killed myself trying to “do all you can do” (2 Nephi 25:23) so grace would kick in.

Young Joseph Smith reached deep into the moist earth and produced, gleaming in the starlight, a big ol stack of GOOOOOLDEN PLATES!!!!!
Once laughed at, but now plenty of ancient golden and other metal plates have been found buried in similar stone boxes. But I’m sure Joseph somehow knew that was a common practice anciently.

Did you know that Hyrum Smith went to college prep school from 1811 to 1815 on the Dartmouth college campus? Did you know that Joseph Smith's relative was a theology professor at Dartmouth from 1775 to 1804, named John Smith? Did you know that Professor John Smith's writings are virtually identical to mormon doctrines? Did you know that Professor John Smith taught Ethan Smith who wrote the View of the Hebrews in 1823? Did you know that Ethan Smith was the pastor of Oliver Cowdery's family? Did you know that View of thet Hebrews has many similarties with the BOM? Did you know Dartmouth College was only 5 miles away from where the Smith's lived?
Similarities between Dartmouth professor John Smith's writings and Mormon doctrines:
1. Greek philosophy provided his concept of the Pre-existence.
2. Atonement Covenant was made before the earth was.
3. Plan of Salvation was agreed to in the Pre-existence.
4. Father, Son and sons of men were together in the Pre-existence.
5. Spiritual death was man’s condition after the fall.
6. Son’s Church would exist in all ages after the fall.
7. Types and shadows of the covenant found in the Scriptures.
8. Oaths and covenants serve as Deity’s legal structure.
9. Light, borrowed light and the light of reason would guide.
10. Melchizedek Priesthood is co-eternal with God.
11. The Priesthood is the source of the Son’s authority.
12. Aaronic Priesthood promised to Aaron’s descendants.
13. Free Agency and the right to choose is integral to the plan.
14. Degrees of Glory is the structure of the Eternities.
15. Consecration to Christ is required for highest exaltation.
16. Revelation required to know ultimate nature of God.
17. Spirit is a simpler form of matter.
18. The prosperity cycle is the natural direction of history.
19. Millions of peopled worlds.
20. Father argues for justice and Son argues for mercy.
I've read the View of the Hebrews.. it's a far cry from the Book of Mormon. It's not close. It has the idea that native Americans came from Israel.. that's about it. There's so much more in the Book of Mormon! Most of the "similarities" you listed above can also be drawn from the bible. And #17 and #20 are not doctrines of the church. Spirit is a more pure form of matter (not a simpler form).. and I don't know where you're getting 20 from.
@@wheelercreek The above list is a summation of the writings of Joseph Smith's relative Dartmouth professor John Smith.There are many similarities that testify that much of Joseph's doctrine came from his relative.
The other assertion is NOT that "View of the Hebrews" (VOTH) has been verbatim plagiarized into the BOM, but that the framework of themes WAS heisted from VOTH to BOM. This SAME assertion was noted by the high ranking LDS church official B.H. Roberts. He pointed out the following similarities between BOM and VOTH:
Destruction of Jerusalem
The scattering of Israel
The restoration of the Ten Tribes
Hebrews leave the Old World for the New World
Religion a motivating factor
Migrations a long journey
Encounters ‘seas’ of ‘many waters’
The Americas an uninhabited land

@@MaryLeonard-mj9ng I’ve read them both. It’s honestly just not even close. I get that there are a few similarities. There are a lot more similarities between the Bible and the Book of Mormon if you want to start comparing large general themes. It’s a theory that doesn’t work at all to explain the complexity and spiritual power of the Book of Mormon.

And yet... his mother said on her death mask Joseph was LESS inclined to reading than his siblings were and had never finished the Bible in life before seeing Moroni, that yes his siblings had an education, but he did not!
