Loving this Japan series. We’ll be there for about 3 weeks in Fall of 2024 for my husband’s 60th birthday. We expected things would be a little pricier since many are imported. Good to know there are reasonable prices to be had. Living amongst the locals is the best way to enjoy a new country/culture, etc.

We were very surprised by the prices in the grocery stores here, it's been great.

Wow, i say overall grocery prices in Osaka are a lot cheaper than the US midwest. Eggs are now about 2.98 for 12. The Kit Kat in a Japanese grocery store in chicago suburb is 7.99 a bag. Even the Johnsonville sausage is good price too. Eye opening video. Thank you Allie and Rob.

We were pretty surprised too! We pay much more for several of those items while in the US. We flew here after spending a month in NYC and it was WAY more there, lol.

Also, have you stayed in Japan for 1 - 3 months? If so, how much would you say you spend a month on groceries, eating out, and transportation? Separate amount for each, please if you can.

What supermarket you’re in? Or are these the prices of food, all over Japan?

It appeared some of the cooked food was just at room temp in store. If so I'd be concerned about eating it.

The store is kept at a very cold temp, I started bringing a jacket to the store, it's so cold.

I always find it interesting shopping in foreign supermarkets. In that supermarket there seems to be a lot of single use plastic. It is interesting that one cob of corn comes in its own plastic. The eggs in a egg container, and then that was wrapped in plastic. In New Zealand 🇳🇿 they are gradually getting rid of single use plastic. I take it that the difference between Australia and US beef is one is grass fed and the other is raised in feed lots.

Grocery shopping in other countries is one of my favorite things to do. You learn so much from it.

Japanese packaging is impeccable. The presentation is beautiful. On the flip side, yes they seem to use a lot of plastic packaging. Hope there is a way to compromise and use paper and retain the creativity of beautiful packaging.
