    Have you dreaded having to tell your landlord and know he's going to take it out of your deposit?
    No worries! It only takes a couple of hours (drying time for epoxy) and some 2 part wood epoxy to repair it and get it looking good as new!

    Pro tip, add a few finishing nails to the wood prior to applying the epoxy. The nails will give it rigidity and bond the two piece together better. Thus, making it stronger. 👍

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  4 роки тому +23

      Wonderful addition to mention there. You can do finishing nails or drill tiny holes and put toothpicks in the holes. Maybe I'll do a small video showing the difference in reinforcement using nails and not using them.

      I don’t know if that will be better. Finishing nails has a different coefficient of thermal expansion than the wood and the putty. In other words the nails will shrink and expand at different rates compared to the wood and putty, which can push and pull on the wood and putty, potentially causing separation between the 2 or cracks over time.

    • @Vulcan5911
      @Vulcan5911 Рік тому +4

      I use the finish nails as well. I pre-drill holes in the wood where I need them and then insert the nails to the perfect depth giving the putty something to grab ahold of. Also helps to keep it into shape and not sag when forming and drying. Same as when doing concrete up against an existing pad or wall. We drill holes and insert rebar to insure that it will bond and hold up to another surface. I also use tight chicken wire when filling larger holes in wood surfaces and filling with an epoxy or Bondo. Works great.

    Dude, you're a lifesaver. My husband and I just bought our 1st house and I noticed all kinds of little nit picky things that I wanted to fix. I was walking through the house and noticed a large corner chunk taken out of my window sill and I literally thought I was going to have to replace the whole piece of wood until I saw this video. I went to Lowes, grabbed me some JB Weld Qwikwood and fixed my window exactly the way you did and it looks brand new! I can't believe it worked and this stuff made it so easy.

    In the future, Predrill some holes, and run some screws into the wood but not all of the way. Leave them sticking out so the putty has additional internal support. For larger areas that you may want to putty vs integrating wood, you can also wrap some light gauge bailing wire around 2 or more screws, then pack the putty into the gaps first, then add the rest of the putty. I have a similar situation I'm about to fix at my house, and this is how I've fixed other trim as well.

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  5 років тому +2

      Brian Guichet Bondo tends to not have the structural hold necessary for a larger repair like that. You could always drill a few small holes in the sill, use wood glue to add some toothpicks to create an additional structural layer for the condo or epoxy to stick to, but that’s not really needed with this epoxy.

    Wow. So glad I found this! I have an area below my window where the drywall surface bows inward leaving about a 1/4" gap right at the end of the horizontal trim below the sill. Fortunately, the window is near a corner, so that gap isn't easily visible, but it still isn't good. I was trying to figure out how to fill that gap as it's too wide to caulk or fill with spackle. This product would be perfect. Easy to use, quick, and paintable. Going to go get some.

      I'll be making another video in the next week or two about another method that can be used that will be even easier to level out and finish. The only drawback to it is it won't be as structurally strong as the epoxy. Fortunately the two systems will work together flawlessly.

      If it's a non-textured door it's very easily able to be fixed in much the same way.
      If it has a fake wood texture, then typically you can use a wood filler and as it's drying gently go over it with a soft bristled brush (old toothbrush) to get a similar texture in it.

    Get your puppy some hard chew toys. You have to buy them regularly. Throw them away when they have chewed them too small so they don't become a choking hazard. Then put Cayenne pepper on your window sills. Before I learned this, my dogs chewed my window sills. I'll be fixing them using your instructions. Important Tip: watch where you walk because stepping on a chewed toy is worse than stepping on a Leggo!

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  Рік тому

      This wasn't a boredom/not having chew toy issue, this was a jealousy issue when I started dog sitting for a neighbor. He hasn't chewed anything he wasn't supposed to in years now.

    I wonder if it would work to make a mold 1st out of the unused putty. Might save time trying to shape it by hand.

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  2 роки тому

      That's a pretty good idea, wouldn't hurt to try. I'd say just make sure you use a mold release (wax, cooking spray, WD40, etc) to make sure that the two pieces don't end up sitcking to each other.

    I just bought a new bed frame that my dog decided was tasty while i was at work... hoping I can use this method to fix it..

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  4 роки тому

      It definitely works, I had to do it for my bed frame (pine bed frame) when my ex's dog chewed a good bit of it.
      The only down side is you do have to paint the frame afterward since the epoxy doesn't stain like wood.

    Does this work for exterior window frames also? My puppies did quite a bit of damage chewing up corners of our window frames outside in the backyard.

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes it does. The Wood Epoxy is actually stronger and more durable than the original wood, especially in outside environments, as it is not susceptible to moisture or decay.

    I have a desk (I think plywood) that is broken in the front right (not the corner, about 90% of the way and in the very front) dented to were it's breaking out the bottom. I was looking up Bondo but everything I'm finding is for corners so I'm not sure what to do. I'm hoping there is a filler I can use because I am hesitant to break it all out just yet. On the top it's about 3 inches by 2 inches, and on the bottom a little bit larger, so I wasn't sure if Bondo could handle something that big if it does eventually break out.

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  Рік тому

      I wouldn't recommend bondo in that situation as it is quite fragile. Going with the JB Kwikwood that I used in the video would work much better for creating a solid replacement and would bond in to the wood. You could also add a light coat of wood glue on the exposed wood before applying the epoxy putty to help with adhesion.

    Great video! My dog broke a part of a wooden corner of the wall and I tried this method to fix it, but the wood filler dried up faster than I expected, is there any way to remove the excess of the wood filler after it's dry?

    • @JoeMartinMVC
      @JoeMartinMVC  Рік тому

      Sandpaper is typically the best method, but depending on how thick it is you could also shave it down using a razor blade.

  • @michaelbessette2764

    You can often stop the chewing by rubbing some of your deodorant on the area. This will mark it with your scent and let the dog know that you have claimed that area.
