  • Join me as I steal some of my kid's candy and take it out to the range! Using my CZ 527 American in 22 Hornet, I set up three lollipops at 100 yards and see if I can hit all three within five rounds.

When I heard it is a CZ rifle, I knew it would not even be a challenge to make the hits.
I own a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser from brand new that is as accurate as any High-end custom rifle.
I actually have trusted my life to this CZ rifle when I am an Alaskan hunting guide.

The 527 is the best rifle ever! All mine in various calibers have either 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch consistently. Everything is stock, just add scope. I was really disappointed when they discontinued them.

Five shots, two nicks, three solid hits. Good shooting. Thanks for sharing that CZ rifle. Nice!
Funny story; I was working in Downtown Courts and we got a last minute preliminary hearing. A DV case involving an elderly Hispanic couple but the husband/defendant was out of custody, so of little security concern. The hearing got underway and I reached over and found an old back issue of SHOOTING TIMES on my shelf and I started to finally educate myself about the .22 Hornet cartridge on company time. BUT WAIT! Only a paragraph in the defendant is causing an outburst, in Spanish, and our court certified interpreter was trying to repeat the words in English, which is her job, but it made no sense. And the wife said something that she had been trying to tell the police that he was "crazy" but they didn't listen. I never did get to finish that article because I did have to get back to work. The judge laughed at me after the hearing about how casually I threw the magazine back on the shelf as I jumped up.

    • @texmexshoots
      @texmexshoots  Рік тому +1

That's a great story! Those DV cases can get pretty hairy quick. Sounds like grandpa is going to get a competency hearing. Glad it didn't escalate.
The hornet is a great round. One that has been a staple for farmers and ranchers all around Texas. Many old timers would hunt whitetails with them. Although I don't think that is kosher under current hunting regulations.
I became interested in getting something I could shoot more accurately than a 22 magnum out to 150 yards without having to deal with the noise or recoil of a 223.

Give the lollipops a chance and move them out to 150. I have a Ruger that I used pop the little BB gun orange disks with at 150. A lot of fun and don't have to lie to the kids about the candy. I converted it to 17 Ackley Hornet so it makes a bigger explosion now. Still have the 22 barrel so it may go back some day.

The one thing I hate about the 22 Hornet is the bolt. When you pull the bolt back, it is extremely high and doesn't leave much space between it, and the scope. This is especially a problem if you have bigger hands.

    • @texmexshoots

    NICE!
I was wondering when you were gonna do some more CZ527 Hornet videos.
I`ve got the CZ527 American 22 Hornet too. It is my MOST FAVORITE rifle i own. At 100yds, one hole groups with my own reloads.
I checked out the CZ600`s. Didn`t set me on fire though. I think CZ made a big mistake discontinuing the 527. Heard alot of grumbling on the CZ forums about it.
Wouldn`t mind seeing a nice highly figured walnut stock CZ600 in a few calibers like 22 Hornet, 223, 22-250, 6mm, 6.5 Creedmore, of course 24 inch heavy barreled ones, for me.

    • @texmexshoots

Did you ever see a heavy barrel version of the 22 Hornet? I wonder if they were every made. I was considering getting a 527 in 7.62x39 right as they were discontinued. I think it was a bad idea for CZ to discontinue the 550 line of rifles.
I own from Brand new a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser I have used many years as my own large game rifle to being used on the Alaskan Brown bear and Yukon moose hunts, I guided client on for their hunts.
I have bought and sold so many rifles with this CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser is the most accurate of all commercial rifles I have bought, and I am now 63 years old, and I grew up on a farm with guns used weekly.
I used to like the Remington 700 rifle then the quality fell off into the toilet with accuracy equivalent to a garbage rod Mosin junk gun!.
The last Remington 700 I bought was a Classic in 300 Wby mag that was so badly made the steel has machining marks all over and the stock was also sandpaper marks with the only reason I bought it was a friend working in a sporting goods store told me he would mismark the price of the gun down to $200 dollars then I was to come in at 1pm to buy it after the friend told the store manager he quiet !
Looking back on it maybe I should have not sold the rifle then used the action for a new rifle build with a High end barrel like from Pac Nor.
