i think making it a night time exclusive thing like monsters after dark would be nice. as much as i would love it to be all day i think it would solve the issue of it being scary for kids
I really wish Ghost Galaxy would come back. And unpopular opinion, save the Nightmare Before Christmas flip for November. Spooky is good. I wish Disney would realize that.
I love HMH, but I completely agree. It's a CHRISTMAS overlay, not a Halloween Town overlay. Here's an idea: Early October, go ahead and put the pumpkins in the graveyard, maybe put scarecrow Jack up with them as a teaser. Then, put the Christmas sleigh up at the BACK of the mansion for people to spot. It won't be Nightmare yet, but people will be even more hype for the Christmas overlay.
@@crazyfire9470Yes, but the Haunted Mansion is Halloween themed by itself. Besides, the name of the movie that the overlay is based on is Nightmare Before Christmas, NOT "Nightmare Before Halloween."
Ghost Galaxy scared the pants off me when I was younger but I still remember it really fondly. It's such a unique, creative, and terrifying idea as far as horror sci-fi goes and I was shocked when I heard that they stopped running it for Halloween.
This was my favorite ride. The ambience it brought to Tomorrowland, with all of the ghostly moans and intermittent chaotic light show moments. I miss the way you felt like you were actually overcoming something in the line with all of the warnings, all accumulating into this chaotic and spooky thrill ride. I’ll never understand why they got rid of it.
well said. The ride and its concept are so brilliant that it could have been its own permanent ride. I hope Disney gets creative with their spooky theming like this again
While I didn't find the Ghost Galaxy experience particularly scary (this coming from someone who does not like "scary"), the projections on the outside of the mountain and the sound effects were very effective in establishing an eerie mood. I was (and still am) a cast member and I used to take some time early in the Halloween season to just stand out in the area in the evening to soak it all in.
I love(d) Ghost Galaxy!! It was creepy but it's Halloween. I think Disney should be allowed to stretch the limits like this in a way with how creepy things could get. What made this overlay for me was the soundtrack. It was just so good and the fact that they still have access to the soundtrack is interesting..
Dude. That opening was *phenomenal*. You could very well make an entire analogue horror short with that. Very well done. In regard to the topic, I never got to do Ghost Galaxy because East Coast, but what I’ve seen does look really cool. I loved Space Mountain as a kid, and my love for the spooks as an adult means I really dig the concept now. It’s not really “Lovecraftian,” but it scratches that “space horror” itch that few things actually do. That said, I can see why people don’t like it. It *would* be pretty scary for kids, and a lot of traditional Disney families like Disney at least in part because they *don’t* lean too heavily into creepy stuff. So my thought would be to use it at something like a Halloween Party-make it special and themed, but not a full overlay for the entire season. That way you know what you’re signing up for when you buy a party ticket, but you don’t diminish the experience for people just going during the season.
something about the ghost galaxy overlay made it so fun and festive. not only did they have a wicked soundtrack, but they also had amazing projections on the dome’s exterior at night. the look as if the phantom was trapped in there clawing and breaking the dome was so cool
I was SO SAD when Ghost Galaxy was suddenly not announced! It was the reason I adored Halloween Time at Disneyland, and every year I have a small part of me that hopes it happens 😭
I think Disney needs to do more Halloween overlays in DLR. they do haunted mansion holiday but that is more of a Christmas overlay. I think they need one for each land (examples: ghost galaxy, normal haunted mansion, spooky big thunder, creepy Matterhorn with no lights on, roger rabbit’s car toon spin in the dark, and maybe something with Indy or Jungle cruise)
We didn’t realize it went away. But let’s wait til we get closer to Halloween. And closing the Haunted Mansion this early is insane. It’s like kids going back to school a month early. Let it be summer!
Almost 5 years ago on November 2nd 2018 I ended my night riding the very last ghost galaxy operation for the season as the park was closing, excited to be able to experience this overlay for the next 4 years of college with my new group of friends. Remember what they took from you.
i know we're all talking about ghost galaxy in specific rn but like Offhand man that was a great Analog Horror themed intro, you could run an arg with that style if you wanted (even keep it disney parks themed to stay on brand?)
It is wild to me that Disneyland park doesn’t have any Halloween overlays anymore, Yet California Adventure goes all out with Monsters After Dark and Radiator Screams.
The first and last time I was on Ghost Galaxy was back in 2017 and I absolutely loved it. I'd love to see a return either as a after hours attraction for an event or exclusive to the last week of October every year
Honestly all theme parks need after dark, adult themed events, and this would be a great option since the overlay is purely digital. If its only at night they could make it all year round, but also still have it safe for kids during the day. Problem solved, everyone's happy.
I really want ghost galaxy back it seemed like a cool overlay and what sucks about it closing is that i could have gotten on the ride, but i chickened out. Btw thank you for talking about this, i thought people did not seem to care about ghost galaxy
My family and I are totally team Ghost Galaxy. The first year my son was big enough and excited to go on it, it did not return. We would love for it to come back.
I really would love ghost galaxy to come back, not sure why they haven't gotten that overlay back. It is one of the best ever done for Space Mountain! Ghost Galaxy is one of the best things I have ever experienced, period!!
The projections on the dome were a neat touch, but my guess is that version of the ride didn't poll very well, because if it did they would have kept it. Honestly to me it feels like Space's "dual mode" is a hammer in search of a nail. The transition was supposed to be done in just an hour or two, but the original plans for a "Rocket Mountain" that ran in the nighttime versus daytime's Space Mountain turned into the awful Rockin' Space Grad Nights and these days is used for promotional gimmicks.
"That's right, it's August, it's officially Halloween, now." Yes! What care we for lackluster Labor or Columbus Days? We hail the Pumpkin King, bringer of candy and amusing scares! 💀👻
in elementary school (circa around 2010), I was fortunate enough to go with a couple of my friends to Disneyland with our parents. we were all excited while in line for Ghost Galaxy. It was more thrilling to get on and watch than it was scary. I think it's because it was something so new to us. One of my friends actually started crying when we got closer in the queue but she ended up loving the ride lol
I rode Ghost Galaxy several times in 2015 and I will never shut up about how good it was, and how scary it was for the Nebula to chase you around the corners.
The only time I ever rode Ghost Galaxy was when my school’s marching band visited in 2009. My group made it our quest to help one of the girls, who was afraid of roller coasters, to get over her fear by the end of the day. Matterhorn and Big Thunder went okay… and then we absolutely traumatized her with SM:GG. I didn’t know about the overlay somehow and even I was scared, and I love coasters. The rest of the group pestered her to go on Indiana Jones afterwards, but I decided to sit it out with her and we had a lovely trip on the Jungle Cruise instead.
i used to hate Ghost Galaxy as a kid; i was terrified of aliens when I was younger, and I often went to Disneyland during the Halloween season because my birthday is around that time. I was so scared to ride it with the overlay LOL, and I got so intimidated by the fact it actually had a warning sign for how scary it was!! But honestly looking back it was my first introduction to cosmic horror, and idk--Disney stepping outside of the box and bringing something more edgy and scarier for slightly older kids was honestly a good idea. I'd really love to ride it again someday..
I think the best compromise for this would be to do it the same way they do Monsters After Dark on Guardians Mission Breakout - they just have a sign out front/note in the app that after 4 or 5pm it switches over to Ghost Galaxy, so kids & families can ride the normal version during the day and spookiness-lovers can get the scarier version in the evening. If it's just projections and soundtrack I would think it could be fairly easy to switch over if they don't have to do any physical changes to the queue/main sign, which they don't for Guardians (just the queue videos change in that one).
I think a good solution to this would be to do what guardians of the galaxy does where it runs as normal space mountain during the day and as the sun goes down it switches into ghost galaxy. That way everyone is happy and kids aren’t completely out of luck with this ride.
I never even knew this existed before today but I do honestly wish Disney would lean harder into the spooky season more often. Definitely not as far as neighboring Universal does but, you know, stuff like this and ExtraTERRORestrial, hell even Tower of Terror, both the Twilight Zone rendition and the unique Hightower version. Stuff that utilizes their Imagineers talents to really craft some genuine creep factors more geared towards older kids and up. Sure it's an insane pipe dream but just imagine the possibilities that could arise if they put their minds to it. Imagine scary overlays to rides like Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain or Test Track even.
Ghost Galaxy was the draw that had me coming to Disneyland from Florida two years in a row. By far the best version of Space Mountain that was in the US.
I loved the cosmic horror of Ghost Galaxy! It was like the celestial gods from the Marvel universe mixed with the monsters from outer space in the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
Really enjoyed the editing on this one. And I agree. I will say, I think the outside of the ride tended to be scarier than the inside. The unsettling lights and sounds outside were spot on. I’d love some reconceptualization of the inner portion. And I think you could tie it into a more cosmic horror of just how incomprehensible the universe is. I’d love if they’d maybe add some tubes or other things to the queue to add some Alien Encounter like effects and vibes. People want scarier things at Halloween. Maybe it is only made scarier at night, but that would be good. Doesn’t need jump scares even, just vibes. Also, I will admit I am not a huge fan of all IPs all the time, but I do think an Alien overlay at Halloween could be very cool. I’d also love a retro overlay with the old soundtrack and retro queue videos on occasion.
If Disneyland brought back Ghost Galaxy, added Alien Encounter, and kept Haunted Mansion spooky for the Halloween season, that would bring in huge crowds that would rival Oogie Boogie Bash. Heck, I still feel Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland is way better because of just Haunted Mansion and Ghost Galaxy compared to Oogie Boogie Bash.
I loved ghost galaxy so much! It was such a great overlay. I am soooo over the Hyperspace Mountain overlay, to be honest. Might be an unpopular opinion, but basic space is so much better! Maybe someday we will see Ghost Galaxy return once again. 🥹
Would be amazing if ghost Galaxy makes a comeback! Not holding breath but would be great to see. The opening for this video was awesome though would love to see more of these during the Halloween time!
As someone who never got to go to Disneyland(Especially not while Ghost Galaxy is there), I’d like to see it return…And this time, they could try bringing it to Florida, too
You have no idea how sad it makes me every year knowing Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy won't make a return but having that little bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, it'll surprise us. Thank you for bringing this topic up, not enough people do. You're the best!
I would love for it to come back! It seems like they could probably do the same thing as Guardians of the Galaxy - Monsters After Dark and go down for an hour or two to change over the Ghost Galaxy for the evenings
We went in 2010 and then every other year after just because we loved Ghost Galaxy so much! I remember them doing a big projection on the façade of the mountain with the ghost guy trying to break out. My sister and I sat on the ground watching the 10 minute or so loop while our parents stood in line. The creepy, scary ghost was the coolest thing. BRING BACK GHOST GALAXY!!
Ghost Galaxy was delightfully scary. I only had one opportunity to ride it, unfortunately. At the time, my kiddo was terrified by just the outside noises and lights. I cannot imagine her riding it until very recently even though she loves Space Mountain. So.. yeah, it does cut off approachability for children. I think they should make more overlays in general though, make it variable like Star Tours.
So lucky I was there when it first came to the public. Seeing the minor change was indeed a great experience. Even loved the mountain itself. Watching the projection lights glitch and showing the ghost trying to break out of the mountain every 30mins.
I’ve only been to Disneyland once (2010?) and my priority during my visit was all the Halloween stuff. I loved Ghost Galaxy. I loved NBC Haunted Mansion, which was a nailbiter if it would open in time for my trip. Thankfully, it did. WDW is my “home” park, so I always love seeing what DL does.
They absolutely need to bring it back! Other than Main Street and Haunted Mansion Holiday there’s not a lot of Halloween offerings in Disneyland proper anymore
The hilarious thing is I didn’t find Ghost Galaxy any scarier than the normal version of the ride, but I LOVED the music. I would love for both Ghost Galaxy and Jingle Cruise to come back.
I never got the chance to ride this attraction overlay unfortunately. I would love to ride this overlay if it ever comes back. I really enjoyed this video.
Here's my poem that's definitely not based off of a pop song. Future's made a Couple of ghost galaxies It'd always come back Maybe it's next Halloween Still it's missing Though we have technologies Now it's just the sound When hyperspace's around Will this one day rival the book a FastPass song? Who knows...
Their excellence in other genres notwithstanding, I have to say that Disney has always had a special talent for scaring the *shit* out of us - the villains of their early features, through the Banshee in DARBY O'GILL & THE LITTLE PEOPLE, and into the more modern animated features.
Where can I sign this petition to return my favorite holiday overlay of all time to my favorite ride in the parks? Seriously though, I was so mad when I learned that they removed Ghost Galaxy. I loved that overlay for the entire time we had it, I was only 10 when it premiered but I remember it being the coolest fricking thing ever to me and I don't do scary things very well! But Ghost Galaxy? I could ride it so many times and never get bored. I miss it, Disney should bring it back.
I rode Space Mountain for the first time when I was around 9 years old during the Ghost Galaxy overlay. Scared me half to death and I haven’t been on it since. Young Daniel would be glad to hear that it hasn’t been announced 😭
So the at 11:26 happened to me in February but with Hyperspace Mountain! I unfortunately didn’t get footage because I was in shock hearing “it’s a trap!” When riding regular Space Mountain, but I think it might be testing for future overlays. Because they brought back Hyperspace, so if they’re doing this for GG then it’s probably coming back, I don’t think Disney would just randomly play it during a ride…right?
Considering how much the Disney parks are struggling right now with lack of new attractions, a seasonal overlay like Ghost Galaxy costs them almost nothing to turn on and would greatly add to the rest of their Halloweentime stuff. I'd rather ride Ghost Galaxy than Hyperspace Mountain! Resurrect Ghost Galaxy!
My friend and I managed to get on Ghost Galaxy's first shuttle its opening day. We were also on the last shuttle of that day. In between, we managed to go on every ride in the park. When they switched back later that year we were back again to go on the last shuttle that day. We like to say we bookended Ghost Galaxy.
I might be crazy. But I made an OC based off Ghost Galaxy due to my love for it! I commissioned a plush artist to make a plush on my OC so I can ride it with my OC on October. When I saw it's normal Space Mountain, I was just disappointed that it's not Ghost Galaxy, but still, I like Space Mountain
Ghost Galaxy was very scary to me (i barely got over my fear of haunted mansion when i was 21 and I still cant get on pinocchio) but i would love for it to come back. Dare I say we need it to come back!
I got lucky and my very first time visiting Disneyland (2010) the overlay was there! I LOVED it and miss it so much. On another note, I sort of remember projections on the outside roof of Space Mountain (I think you briefly show them in this video) and every so many minutes, there were weird sounds (maybe the ghost shrieking?) you could hear that synced to the projections…am I making that up or was that real?! But yes, please bring it back Disneyland!
i never got the chance to go on ghost galaxy but i always wanted to!! it was just so rare to go during fall for me personally, but when i finally got to, it was the year they stopped doing it.... bring it back please i cannot rest easy
I wish I got to experience Ghost Galaxy before it was gone! I used to be deathly afraid of roller coasters, and by the time I got over my fear it was already gone. I especially love listening to its music now, though! Somehow it’s both epic and yet a bit underwhelming to me at the same time…? I think I just wish the entire track went as hard as the very end of it does. (Side note: does anyone know who composed the soundtrack? Because I don’t think it was Michael Giacchino this time but I can’t seem to find any record proving or disproving that anywhere…)
If they brought it back it would make me want to go during this time of year. The way it is I would never go because I think the nightmare before Christmas stuff absolutely ruins the Haunted Mansion.
When I was younger and at disneyland during the holiday I had the pleasure (at the time a displeasure) of being able to experience this ride, it did terrify me but after the ride I wanted to do it again. really hope they bring it back
PLEASE bring back this Halloween tradition. We lived on the wrong coast and always thought it would come to the MK. Now we live on the Best Coast and its gone. 😢
i think making it a night time exclusive thing like monsters after dark would be nice. as much as i would love it to be all day i think it would solve the issue of it being scary for kids
I really wish Ghost Galaxy would come back. And unpopular opinion, save the Nightmare Before Christmas flip for November.
Spooky is good. I wish Disney would realize that.
Yeah, I agree that Haunted Mansion Holiday should only happen during November - January, not starting in October.
I agree. I like Haunted Mansion Holiday, but it should only run from November to January. Original Haunted Mansion should run January to October

It’s literally the best thing Tomorrowland has to offer. Which is sad
Yeah this scared the crap out of me when was really little but now just miss it
I loved Ghost Galaxy! Each year, I keep on hoping against hope that they’ll bring it back.
YES. I've been saying for years they need to bring it back. It's not any scarier than Expedition Everest!

Long for this to be permanent from mid September through October
My family and I are totally team Ghost Galaxy. The first year my son was big enough and excited to go on it, it did not return. We would love for it to come back.
NEEDS TO COME BACK. Hearing the ghost roars across the park is so awesome. NEED IT BACK want the T shirt so bad regret not getting it..

I really miss Ghost Galaxy. I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed that we'll see it again someday.
I never got the chance to ride this attraction overlay unfortunately. I would love to ride this overlay if it ever comes back. I really enjoyed this video.
Here's my poem that's definitely not based off of a pop song.
Future's made a
Couple of ghost galaxies
It'd always come back
Maybe it's next Halloween
Still it's missing
Though we have technologies
Now it's just the sound
When hyperspace's around
Will this one day rival the book a FastPass song?
As a True Ghost Galaxy Fan With Having The Rare Shirt, and Pin I Wish It will come back soon 😭.
I remember crying on it when I was young and when I grew older I was looking forward to it omg
I rode Space Mountain for the first time when I was around 9 years old during the Ghost Galaxy overlay. Scared me half to death and I haven’t been on it since. Young Daniel would be glad to hear that it hasn’t been announced 😭
You’re a real one for this, Ghost Galaxy is the coolest overlay and is a crime it hasn’t returned.
Honestly, as a kid I was never very scared of Ghost Galaxy, I just remember it being super awesome
Space mountain is actually on the refurbishment calendar for next month. Maybe that's a sign
I really enjoyed Ghost Galaxy and would absolutely love it to be there every spooky season
This really is the best thing about projector rides, quick and easy overlays.
I feel like Dalan could make an awesome ARG based around ghost galaxy, like wow that opener was great!
Man this channel deserves more attention
I've never clicked on a video SO FAST omg - another amazing video!!
We need Ghost Galaxy at WDW for Mickey’s Halloween Party.
Man tell me why i was JUST thinking about this. BRING BACK GHOST GALAXY!!
If it is a quick change, similar to the Guardians change, just make it regular until 6pm and then switch.
I never got to ride Ghost Galaxy so I would be happy to see it return just so I could get the chance
I haven’t even started watching your video and I agree they need to bring this back I loved it
Ghost Galaxy was very scary to me (i barely got over my fear of haunted mansion when i was 21 and I still cant get on pinocchio) but i would love for it to come back. Dare I say we need it to come back!
I don’t usually like haunted or haunted adjacent things but I loved and miss ghost galaxy
7:33 Don’t forget the Alien scene in the late great Great Movie Ride.
Ghost galaxy scared little me to tears practically made me scared of space mountain whatsoever for a while
I’m going back to Disney in a few days and am so pumped! I loved Cosmic Rewind last time and I’m going to EPCOT first day!
Mr toads ride is scarier.. u go to jail and hell on that ride
I LOVE your shirt!
Very fun intro and ad bit!!
