On Zoo Tours, the Detroit Zoo welcomed us with a beautiful but harsh encounter of the southern hemisphere, now far north is an exhibit that sits on top of the world. The award winning, critically acclaimed Arctic Ring of Life - groundbreaking to this day. Opening with the title of World's Largest Polar Bear Facility, while at the same time composing such environments together that were never before depicted in such ways. The Ring of Life represents three domains and conditions Arctic animals experience by season - the grassy tundra, the icy winter, and the inclusion of the open sea. Even with these variation of landscapes, all four habitats are tied together to make foxes, seals, and bears appear to live in harmony. Your eyes will not only widen from the massive enclosures of the bear's domain but from the design elements that arranged arguably the world's most convincing predator and prey layout. The Arctic Ring of Life opened in 2001, and immediately set a new standard for polar bear care and exhibition that make it a challenge for other facilities to live up to. Enter this freezing circle, and you will see why this is considered one of the greatest, and innovative exhibit in the world.
