My very first flight on Icelandair, as well as my first visit to Iceland! This is footage from Icelandair flight number 862, Boeing 767-300ER service from San Francisco (SFO) to Reykjavik (KEF). The aircraft registration was TF-ISP and I had seat 36A for this 9 hour flight.

Well done! Icelandair is great. Clean planes and friendly staff. I was with them from PDX to KEF to ARN and back from CPH. Loved the way they did that pre-flight video. :)

Thanks! Yes, I was quite impressed with the entire Icelandair experience - even on a full flight like I had on the return to SFO several days later. It’s hard to believe they are classified as a low cost carrier IMHO.

Finally, a flight report that made me want to fly! I used to fly Loftleidir in prehistoric days, the ones with the RR turboprops, since they were the ONLY low-cost carrier a poor college boy could use to go see his Viking sweetheart in Norway. I just booked a one day trip to Keflavik on 9/20/19 to escort her back to Seattle after a summer in Europe. Reminisce about the good old days of air travel!
As always I adore your editing and found this very enjoyable. Flying Icelandair myself on the 757 and 737MAX soon and can’t wait.

I love flying, this was a great video. Suggestion...I had the best omelette (ham and cheese) in the airport at Keflavik. I was headed to the gate for BA to London. Had to leave the hotel before breakfast was ready. I'll never forget the omelette. And the coffee!!! WONDERFUL!

Man, your camera is spectacular. The definition of that winglet was phenomenal. Makes me want to return. I was there in Apr '18. I didn't care for the camera on the floor view.....it was unsettling. I wanted to see everything but not from the floor. lol. I flew Lufthansa Houston to Frankfurt on A380 and then connected with Lufthansa Frankfurt to Reykjavik. Everything worked like clockwork. The A380 will spoil you. I highly recommend it.
Thanks Daniel! Yeah, as much as I enjoyed flying on Icelandair, LH (on the A380 via FRA) would certainly be a lot more fun. Next time I go to KEF, I’m definitely going to do something fun like that!
Flown four times with them, twice with the 767. They are refurbished ex Air NZ planes and in my opinion excellent aircraft with terrific legroom (illustrated in the video) and crisp colour selection for the interiors. The winglets were also added in the refitting of the aircraft. Booked well in advance their fares are very competitive from here in NL.
I really had no idea how good Icelandair is! I was sort of dreading this flight due to them being labeled a low cost carrier and all, but it was a really good experience and I’d book another trip with them without thinking twice.
I remember traveling on Iceland air in 1998. Open Bar and delicious hot meals. Was the return flight just as comfy?
Leaving for Europe in 3 weeks, cannot wait!!!
If you would go there in the summer, the sun would be shining a lot in Iceland at 6 am, it sunlight almost 24/7 in summer
I have flown Icelandair numerous times to Stockholm and Copenhagento either see relatives or travel . I love their service and only fly either them or SAS to Europe.
Well this was a real gem! Not a lot of Icelandair stuff out there.
I'm taking this in a few months to go to Denmark and honestly I was surprised. It was the cheapest ticket but it had the shortest layover. Every other airline charged like 1500+ during christmas time and they had at least 4+ hour layovers. This airline only had a 1 hour layover.

Another great and well made video, really enjoyed it! I remember flying Icelandair on AMS-KEF-AMS quite some years ago before WOW was around. Pretty interesting to read that Icelandair bought WOW earlier this week!
Anyway, it looks like this flight could have easily been operated by one of their 757s with all those empty seats! It does make it a little bit more comfortable for you though! Were you able to sleep at all?

Yeah Iceland was awesome! Not quite as awesome as having an entire 767 to myself, but still lots of fun. 😄 And yeah, pretty neat how Icelandair and WOW will become one!
I am surprised this flight is so empty. Very rare in this day and age. I'm even more surprised Icelandair operated it. Obviously not a profit made on this flight. I can't say I hear many complaints concerning this airline. Generally they have a decent reputation.
The good news (for them) is that my return flight to SFO a few days later was completely full. Hopefully it’s full more often than not!
Continuously improving editing and narration! Love it. The food on the flight is beyond horrible though. I don't think I would want it for free. I am on Big Island now!

Icelandair is the go to airline for my in-laws to fly YHZ-AMS. They are usually the cheapest, quite comfy, and usually have the shortest travel time since they don't have to backtrack like most TATL options from YHZ. They don't worry about the food, since the YHZ-KEF leg is well under 5 hours.
I'm not sure why they fly to SFO though. SFO is already well connected. They are probably best off serving under-connected North American markets with their scissor hub model. Flying to the big hubs means that they are stuck competing on price.
I always wondered why they even bothered with SFO as well. There’s tons of competition to Europe, and it doesn’t seem to fit their business model at all. I may be biased, but I think they need to swap SFO for SAN. 😆

"Icelandair is a low-cost carrier"? As an Icelander I'd be curious to know what you paid for your ticket and whether Icelanders are being discriminated against (as the company is certainly not perceived nor marketed as 'low-cost' )?

(a little late to say this, since this comment is posted in 2019 lol) I'm soon going to be going on Icelandair from Canada (Toronto Pearson) to Iceland, then from Iceland to Sweden. I have a fear of flying, and this video helped me feel safer ;) Thanks! Wish me luck!

have done this with my family to LGW and CDG and always on time and no issues. For $425 RT to Paris from SFO it is unbeatable. Service is
good and planes are comfortable. If you read the website carefully u will have no surprises . changing planes in KEF is easy and fast.
Bottom line Icelandair is a winner...
Totally agreed - I was really apprehensive about thier low fares (thinking that the service must be horrible) but everything about the experience was good. I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Yeah, it ended up being a really great flight! They don’t have many partners unfortunately, but I was able to credit these miles to my Alaska account.

Really surprises me that Icelandair is considered a "low-cost" carrier, considering great legroom, free water bottles, USB-ports etc. Only thing is no free food...
I totally agree - the only thing considered “low cost” about Icelandair is the lack of free food. Everything else is equally on par with the economy class products of UA, AA, BA, etc.

It is not considered low cost.
They are a hybrid between a LCC and a mainline carrier. They don't charge for carry ons, but they charge a LOT for checked bags and they charge for gate checks too. I've also heard their overhead bins are deliberately tiny to force you to check bags (e.g. standard sized carry-ons that you would take on a US carrier won't fit in Icelandair's bins). They are probably most comparable to Norwegian, just without the shiny new 787s. If you go by Seatguru their 757-200s are probably their best aircraft for room (19inch seat width, 33 inch pitch) and their new 737 MAX8s are probably the worst in their fleet to fly on (which seems par for the course for the MAX, nobody seems to like them except for airline shareholders).

Thanks, yes I was surprised how empty this flight was. The return to SFO (the video I’m posting today) was nearly full though - which is a good sign.

To be honest I’m not sure - I only had apple juice (lol) and there weren’t enough other people around me to see if they were serving alcohol as well.
Great video although looked rather uncomfortable biz class didn’t look much better either. 🙂
Leg room back in economy was really good actually, so it wasn’t bad. But yeah, business class looked dismal!

Really jealous haha, my channel has no international flights just yet but I’m hoping that will change. Also no offense to Iclendair but man are there “meals” disgusting looking. Those things looked like the balls of an animal
They did look like testicles of some kind, but at least they were tasty. 😂 I saw some of the other choices (pizza and ramen noodles), and everything looked decent. Expensive though!

Not a low cost carrier, Icelandair is a legacy carrier.
I guess the lack of complimentary meals made me assume they were classified as low cost. But that’s about the only thing that seemed low cost to me - leg room and service was quite good in economy!

Wow, is it normal for their flights to be that light on passengers? I've seen the many many many horror stories on Trip Advisor about Icelandiar so have been leary of considering them for a trip to Europe. The impression you get from the Trip Advisor reviews of them is that they lose luggage A LOT, and their staff on the ground are incredibly rude.
Thankfully I didn’t check any luggage on this trip - and overall I thought it was a really great experience on both segments (SFO-KEF and KEF-SFO). I’d do it again without hesitation!

Yes, they do serve food but it isn’t free. Portions aren’t very large either, so it’s better if you bring your own food.

probably the worst inflight service i have seen of any european carrier. That Tapas box looked ridiculous.
There is no alcohol included. And their Saga Business class is one of the most expensive out of Germany....Flights to the westcost are extremely high . More than LH or AF... No choice for me....
True, they advertise themselves as a low cost carrier, but their business class product is really expensive for what it is. No way I’d pay what they’re asking for that! Anyway, yeah, that tapas box was totally overpriced but it ended up being a decent snack so I can’t complain too much. It certainly wasn’t a full meal though.
