I've had a few people ask about using Teams on a Mac and reporting that some features are not working - in this video, I show you three reasons why something might not work with Teams on a Mac and how to solve the problem.

Hello there - I'm glad you've taken the time to look at my videos and this description box!
My name is Frank and I've been teaching post-graduate programs in technical subjects for almost 25 years. My Master's Degree is in Learning and Technology (from Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC - where they filmed the X-Men movies!).
I'm a Microsoft Certified Trainer (since 1998), a Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (since 1999), and have a lot of different technical certifications (I even had my own consultancy and was a member of the Apple Consultants Network for a few years. I like technology a lot.
I've been fascinated with learning and how to improve learning for years. Especially how to leverage technology for learning. Hello. I've got the same problem. I installed MS Teams on my Imac 2017 late. I had updated iOS system to the latest version, I had got rid of antivirus as well. When I try to log in the app doesn't start up! There is only everlasting information about "loading". HELP!

Microsoft teams Noise suppresstion is not showing in macbook air.
Unfortunately, there are some big differences between the Mac and Windows versions. Especially in areas where system level access comes into play (like audio)
I use both and try to make Mac videos as much as possible too.
On a happy note: Macs have really good built-in noise suppression 🙂

That’s up to the Meeting organizer to adjust the meeting settings. I have some videos on how to create a Teams meetings - I cover that in those.
How do you get the Teams button to show up in Outlook for Mac? Skype is there by default but in Windows you tell Teams to give Outlook access. This check box is missing in the Mac version of Teams.

Thanks for the tip. It’s exactly what I needed to do. The only thing left is that when I teach on Windows, I can see up to 15 students on my screen, but on my Mac , I can only see one at a time. Last week, I asked a student to be an organizer with me and she could share the screen, so I saw my students.
Is there anything to do to fix that? Is my Mac too old? If yes, can I upgrade it without buying a new one? It updates itself, but maybe there’s a limit...

When I try to connect to ms teams online, it says error and can't connect to the Internet even though my Internet is fine.
Are you using an older Operating System? Sometimes people use Windows 7 and Teams doesn't work on Windows 7
For some reason, I am not always able to share my screen on my Mac. When I try, the only things there are POWERPOINT and WHITEBOARD. I've made sure that "screen recording" and "accessibility " have been checked. Not sure what to check next.

I have a question regarding the 'share tray' in meetings ... when I browse and upload a PowerPoint file to share, and then come out of the slides to maybe use the whiteboard, and I return to the share tray, there are no files under the Powerpoint section. I have to browse and upload again. Please can you tell me why this is the case?

I just don’t understand why I experience a lot of echoing while in a teams meeting. What can be done to get this fixed.
The most common reason for this is that the microphone and speaker are not set to the correct levels. So the microphone picks up the speaker.
As a solution, I use an external plug in microphone and keep my speaker a lower so they don’t feedback.

@@LearningandTechnology so mainly happens at work too though whereby we have a conference meeting and we hear all sort of echos while we all settled in for a meeting. What could be the best solution for this please.
How about using teams when working in MS RDS on a Mac?
Can MS Teams access a particular software such as Adobe Standard / X ?
The access is more via sharing. So Teams can share the screen or App.
hello Frank. the problem on my new macbook is that teams doesn’t show up in the listed apps that i need to provide permission to.
Did you download the desktop version? It seems you may be using the web interface version. In my other video - I demonstrate the Mac Download. You need that version.
@@LearningandTechnology No, i am working on the desktop app and i have microsoft teams 1.3.00.24758 last updated on 11/2/2020. Now i was trying to find an answer to my question and i noticed that this is a common issue with all new macbook pro users.

Hi frank I have a new iMac 24 and I have an important (group) meeting via Teams next week. Do you think it is ok to avoid headphones and use the internal microphones instead which are quiet good or do I have to be afraid of delay?
That new Mac should work beautifully with Teams. You may want to test it quickly, but any delay would be based on the speed of your Internet - the audio/video would be good.
The main sound issue that people experience when using built in mic and speakers is that they turn the volume up too high on the speakers and the sensitivity too high on the mic. That can result in the mic picking up the speaker and creating a feedback loop.
The Mac systems are quite good right out of the box for balance most times. This is why FaceTime and such works so well on them.

Ok, i have a mac and i just downloaded the microsoft team. If i click on snap camera, it gives me a yellow screen instead of video. If i use FaceTime, the video turns on. The natural lens from snap camera looks a lot better than FaceTime. How do i get this to work???? I look horribly pale and I don't know how to fix this

If they are working on you Mac, then you just make them the default audio. It should work. When you go into teams - you select audio device - select the AirPods.

Hi frank! I have full disk access on teams and outlook from the system preferences. My issue is that I cannot download or upload any files, such as PDFs and Excel spreadsheets, and I cannot download files from outlook. Note: I can do the mentioned without problems on my regular mail app and I can also upload/download on the website applications through chrome. Would appreciate the help as it is driving me crazy’s
Do you mean upload and download from Teams? If you can upload and download from other programs - then I am wondering if this has been disabled by your IT Admin group? Are other users (Windows/Mac) able to upload/download?
If others can - then it would be a System Preference on your computer. If others can't it's a Global Admin setting in Teams by your IT Department.
My Mac won’t let me download teams.
It keeps saying that my browser version isn’t supported and to download the desktop app.
So then I download it and then that same screen pops up again
You may need to run system updates - or download a different Browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox)

That may be an IT setting or the person that created the meeting has muted this feature. Can other people see the group?
Hi Frank, I have a problem with chat. When I organize a meeting I see the icon of chat and I can use it. But I should participate at meeting organized by other company and I can't use chat. There is no icon of bubble in my options. Could you help me, please?
Chat may be disabled for the other company - it is an option in meetings to allow or not allow chat. This might be the case.
I keep getting these message when trying to sign in, "microsoft teams we couldn't connect to the internet. try checking your connection". Yet I am connected to my wifi
Are you able to visit other websites? Teams does need an active Internet connection.
@@LearningandTechnology I am able search up other websites. I deleted the app and reinstalled it, when clicking “what type of account do you have”, it goes back to the same error message
Many thanks Frank, very well explained. I do have an issue with teams on my Mac that I cannot find anywhere else, and I've googled extensively. Since a few weeks ago, whenever I join a Teams meeting and someone is presenting, the presentation shows for a minute at most, then it disappears and I get a message to click to reload - this sometimes works, but mainly not. I've had to resort to people sending me their presentation and I walk through it manually ("we're on slide 10 now..."). Obviously not a satisfactory solution. Funny thing is that it worked perfectly for many months, and without me knowingly changing anything this now happens always. Any tips or advice would be highly appreciated. For info I have a relatively new M1 MacAir, I have Teams s part of my Office365 subscription and run the Teams App on my Mac.
I also have a new M1 Mac - I’ll try this out tomorrow during my class and see if I can find out some info.

I have a problem with connecting snap camera for the Microsoft teams desktop app.It works on chrome browser and zoom etc.snapp cam worked well with microsoft desktop app, only recently this issue came along.I've tried reinstalling both apps and allow access as well. Can you please help.
Did you recently upgrade your Mac to the Big Sur OS? If you did, you have to go into System Settings and make sure the permissions are set.
no, it's High Sierra. But I recently found this article on Microsoft saying they don't support virtual apps for teams anymore.

Are you using a company or school account? If you are, then the meeting organizer determines how you join - they can keep you waiting in the "lobby" or let you join automatically.
Nice video. I'm using Teams on my mac and it seems to be the worst app ever because if I close it, I have to reinstall every single time. I can't find anywhere to log out. It doesn't crash. It works just fine - until I close it. Then it spins endlessly then tells me I need to reinstall. I've never seen that behaviour on any mac ever in 18 years. I'm on Cat 10.15.7. This issue drives me nuts. I found some pages on MS support where I've deleted the cache and other application support files but no luck. Any ideas folks?

I can check tomorrow with my class - some views are only available when you have enough participants - so they are unavailable until your class fills up :)
Hello again - so I tried this morning. With a class of 60, I was able to see Gallery, Large Gallery, and Together Mode on my Mac.
So - if you are not seeing these options there are two possibilities I can think of:
1) make sure you have the most up-to-date Teams installed
2) Make sure your IT Department hasn’t disabled this. (Check on another computer if possible to see if it works there)

I’ve been successful on my older MacBook Pro as well as a new Mac Mini M1 - both upgraded to the latest OS.
One thing I’ve done in the past when I have issues with my Microsoft account is to remove it and then add it again.

Hey sir, the video did not helped for me. ( i did learn some new options ofcourse, thanks ).
But my real problem is, i just bought a macbook air M1. When i join a Teams group it works alright. But i get constantly disconnects in the group. The connection fails and i cannot hear someone for like 10 seconds. Than it's back in and a few minute(s) later it's coming back. My Wi-fi is verry good and no other problems so that's not the problem.
Do you know what i mean?

Unfortunately, I do not have an M1 Mac to test this on. I’ve used my MacBook Pro without any issues. This is something I will look at once I upgrade my own hardware, but that my not be for awhile.

I have suddenly the Problem , my internet connection failed, and now Microsoft teams is starting until I can type in my email address and then I get a white window.
I tried to delete the cookies but there is no folder in the MS-Teams folder to delete
I'm not able to share my screen anymore. Teams asks me to set the appropriate setting in the preferences panel, but it is already set. Even re-granting the permission does not help. Since I often have to share my screen with my colleagues in my daily work, I would be available for advice.

Thanks for the content Frank. So Teams is working properly, with the exception, that in the "default for calls" setting in face time, only FaceTime, zoom & Webex are listed. teams is missing. Any suggestions?
I haven't tried changing it to Facetime - I'll have to try it and see what might be happening. A lot of times with new Mac OS, it's a security setting as Mac tends to isolate all the programs from each other.

Hey Frank, how I use my Obsbot Tiny with Microsoft Teams. It currently doesn't recognize and won't allow me to switch cameras
That is a bit odd - I actually have an Obsbit Tiny as well and it works well. Is another program using the camera at the same time as you start Teams? Try closing any other applications that are using the camera and then try using it in Teams.

Hi Frank, I just used MSteam yesterday, and was not familiar with the system, chat with city official and he gave me many references on the chat, upon logging off I could not find the chat files that he share with me, is there any way to retrieve the chat file, was chat files safe automatically? if so where does it safe at, thank you, ken

Hi thanks for this video. I have been using teams on my Mac for a while but am recently having problems with some meeting invitation links. I click on the link and I get a screen asking whether to I want to use the app or the web. Sometimes the chat menu does not appear if you are not an Attendee and logged in as a Guest.

Hello thank you for your helpful video. I am a History of music professor at the university and I am using a Mac. my problem (and I think it's the problem of many people) when I share screen and show a video my students can't here the system audio. I checked google and found out that Microsoft Teams does not support system audio sharing on Mac. but strangely some of my fellow Mac user teachers don't have that problem. They say that when they show a video in teams on Mac the students can hear the sound. Would you please explain this? I really want to find a solution.
The system audio sharing on a Mac is an issue. I did a video on how to share the audio with Windows, but Mac sharing doesn’t seem to work.
I have a solution I think will work - let me test it and I’ll make a video. I’ll try to do that today or tomorrow
I did a quick test on my system - the audio shares - so I think that it may be a setting on your Mac.

Have a look at those settings and let me know if that works for you. The key is to give Teams permission not only to your audio (microphone/speaker), but also to "Accessibility" features. That may do the trick for you.
@@LearningandTechnology Dear Frank Thank you very much for your help. But I did try everything the Accessibility features as well but still when I talk the sound is going but when I show a video on screen share the sound of the video is not shared. I found a solution of installing a virtual sound driver (blackhole 2 and 16 channels) but I have to switch drivers whenever I have to show a music video. Not practical at all..
@@ilkeboran that was also a solution I found (Blackhole) - there’s another tool called Soundflower that I am thinking of trying.
One “solution” I have found is to turn up the volume so that the microphone picks up the audio. This won’t work if you use a headset or microphone - but it did work somewhat for me.
I’m not happy with that as a solution though and would not imagine it as effective for teaching music.
The workaround might be to have the sound files available for download and have students play them locally. Far from ideal though.
@@ilkeboran I have found a solution! It does require a software purchase - but it’s elegant and simple. I’ll have the video posted this afternoon (mountain time). Today is Remembrance Day in Canada - so I will be taking some time to respect the veterans. I’ll create and post the video after that.

There are a couple possible reasons: 1) the Team Owner may have disabled them - are others able to use them? 2) the IT Department may have disabled them at the tenant level (top level)

Can you help me how to include (audio youtube) using an iPad sharing the screen with Microsoft Teams
Unfortunately, this is not possible. It *may* be possible to record system audio from an iPhone/iPad that has been modified (jailbroken), but I don't do that myself. It's also possible to do this if you connect your phone to a computer (mac) - but at that point, you might as well just run the Teams meeting from the Mac and share there.
