So much going on at the New London station. Amtrak and Shoreline East Commuter rail, Car ferries to Orient Point on the East tip of Long Island and Fisher's Island, the Coast Guard training clipper ship Eagle and submarines from Electric boat often cruising up and down the Thames River. A great place to hangout.
I'm really gonna miss that Hybrid K5LA horn once these Acelas retire, but either ways, the horns on the new Avelia Liberty trains are cool and funny sounding at times.
The first Acela in this video currently has an unknown location. Does anyone know where it is? It is very sad to think that in 10 years the first generation Acela will never be seen on the NEC again, the Amfleet I's are retired, and ACS-64s will only be on northeast long distance trains.
I had a pipe dream the other night that one day one set could have a single powercar replaced with the lone jet train powercar and go on tours of the continent, but I already know that will never happen...
The Acela and HHP-8 horns are split manifold because there’s not enough space on the roof for a 5-chime manifold. So technically, it’s a K3LA plus a K2H that are blown together to sound like a K5 horn.
Thought the Acela normally stopped at New London. Also imagine if one day you were at New London station and an attack sub just comes up or down the river sailing by.
@@dariofinkel6191 Their is no "wrong iron" in 261 and 562 territory. Wrong Iron slang applies in 251 territory. None exists on this section of the Corridor. Amtrak does not designate their mainline tracks as directional. While they normally use 1 as a Westbound track and 2 as an Eastbound track, they will routinely run opposite ways for getting around congestion.
welcome to the future, where m8’s have taken over the P40DC’s hard work. now the p40dcs are being rebuilt, and into a CT/Rail paint scheme. I sure miss them beauties.
Why is there still a grade crossing in 2018? trains can go 130+mph but sure lets have a grade crossing. Why is New London a Union Station. its only been served by one railroad. (well 3 through mergers. New Haven, PC, and Amtrak). I think its the only railroad station where the platforms are separated by a grade crossing.
It was so strange going through here on the Acela. The streets were blended into a high speed railway!
0:27 Love that Hybrid K5LA. It'll never get old!
Kevin the train hunter I hate how they replaced all of the original bronze bells on the Acela trains
i agree kevin

@Amill Houston I see bro
Is it just me or was the conductor / Left Seater on 2029 videoing you? @ 2:54
That is actually the forward facing in-cab camera of the power car.
I forgot that Amtrak actually installed those. I thought I saw it move a bit so... just my inattention, I guess!
It looks like there is no way the Acela will go through New London at 150mph.
IH331 absolutely no chance. It’s too curvy and there’s 3 crossings there also
I’m sorry for this but that’s what she said
I've taken Amtrak from this station a few times; it truly is a beautiful, vintage place.
Wow, I guess I’ve been missing out. I’ve never taken Amtrak before!
Acela had the new bell on 2190?
Where was 2190?
@@WhiteCamry 2190 is the Acela that stops at New London, second train in the video.

The best though
It sounds incredible though

sprinter engineer: ok we're at new london gotta do the crossing horn thingy
random ferry: *haha ship horn go brrrrrr* 18:21
u can hear the engineer do full blast
18:21 What the heck? how is the horn like a ferry horn? Well, that was weird
It sounded beautiful tho

I'll really miss that K5LA
It's still here, what do you mean, don't you mean that old Acela bell, it wasn't functioning enough so that why they have to replace it into a e-bell.
@@orionharmon6017 he didn’t say i. he said i’ll.
@@CTSLRailfan Well the Amtrak Acela express still got the K5LA that's installed into her.
I hear a backing up truck in the background is there construction going on back there 10:18
Oh god, that last one woooooooh baby!! yeah!
The K3LA part of that horn sounds wonderful!
Wdym k3la part? Is the k5la hybrid mixed with some parts of the k3la?

@FanRailer I also made a new codename for this horn it's called the "k3LM2H"

sccrdude22 Acela trains don’t stop there, and lol
3 Acelas stop there a day. Trains 2151, 2190, and 2172.
sccrdude22 I was held up for 2 hrs back in early 90s when a sub was stuck. Back then you switched from electric to diesel I think in New Haven
the Acela only stops at new London in the early morning and the late evening
I have seen a sub go by
Acela Express is stopped when it is jammed and when it is a red light
Love the Acela 2034 horn
I love the battle between the train and ship horns
The Acela Express train that stopped here at this New London train station some of them skip them is this rare?
i'm surprised u didn't see 6696 it was out on Sunday
I’ll miss these original sets ..
Does anyone happen to know the track speed on this section of the NEC? Is it 20mph?
25 mph
That’s really slow for a train, but fast for a person riding a bike
The speed is slow because of the curve.
and a tight curve. do you want it to go 100mph around a blind curve with two grade crossings?
i think the Tilt function on the Acelas is turned off for this curve.
That first Acelas Hybrid K5LA almost sounded Canadian tuned like a K3L or K5H, wonder if it had a dominant 3 chime
0:28 I love 2034 Acela K5LA's horn! And i love the acela express too!😍
or 0:25 3mins
was up there yesterday. lots of trains to see including 137
There’s that ferry horn again 12:04
For some reason these videos and the 2 linked didn't show up in my subscription feed. (the clips did)
What do you film with
Wait does the Acela stop in new London? Idk how I don't know
Some do, some do not
That Acela takes a mean curve at New London! Fucking SICK! that noise is epic and it makes contact! Love it
Cute - gates and a Serious Bell - for people - and it's WAY north of Florida. (Yes; it's OBVIOUS; southern end of the platform.)
I did not know acela stopped at new London
Take Amtrak here all the time to hope on the ferry seen at 5:05 (and heard at 18:26 lol)
I was on that exact train at 2:47 on April 2nd 2018
Oh I've been there before thats New London Connecticut
it seems odd this station has its platforms cut in half by a railroad crossing! how often do cars use it?
the road is there mostly for town people to access the docks.
i think its for the Block Island ferry. for the vehicles to access and exit the ferries
It’s only for people (like myself) to access the Fishers Island Ferry
13:28 Sounds Like LIRR Horn
13:33 Might be me, but why does that Hybrid K5LA sound so much like a LIRR K5LL? Lol.
when i was there 2 passed within a minute before the sle train departed
Amtrak driver: were at new london gotta blow the horn
random ship: honk 18:24
it was so loud that u can hear the enginner do full blast on the horn
I have never seen the acela cross a grade crossing
There’s a few crossings in eastern Connecticut on the NEC still active today
Great Video, if you want a little more up to speed action you’d like Mystic station, only a handful of NER trains stop there.
if you want something REALLY good head to Kingston, RI. The best station in the northeast.
Kingston, Rhode Island is where to go if you want true high speed.

I havn't been here since before covid.. hmm maybe ill go this summer
