I have seen them both, Rysanek, Nilsson, separately and together...They had voices of equal size and power..Nilsson, of course, was like a laser and Rysanek was hot.
Thanks so much for this upload. I love Rysanek and especially her Senta. I'm sure that I read a review of one of Rysanek's many Senta's saying that her top register was one of the most sizeable and comparable, if not bigger, than Nilsson's ... I may be wrong!
Otellogv Around F# to A, Rysanek's voice was really full and huge. The extreme top notes were slightly "schlanker" but with lots of overtones and had incredible tension that were absolutely riveting - they almost had a passionate wild sound sound to them even though they were always controlled. Nilsson tops did indeed shoot out like a laser. There was never much passion in Nilsson's singing and she never made my spine tingle in quite the same way as Leonie did.
