  • Celebrate Valentine's Day with an evening of music exploring the complexities of love, performed by the award-winning men's vocal ensemble Cantus.
The ancient Greeks spoke of four different kinds of love - romantic, familial, friendly and unconditional - and Cantus' program honors these "four loves" in works by Poulenc, Grieg, Beethoven and Kurt Elling, paired with newly commissioned pieces by David Lang, Joseph Gregorio, Ysaye Barnwell and Roger Treece. WQXR's Elliott Forrest hosts.
Hailed as "the premier men's vocal ensemble in the United States" (Fanfare), Cantus is known around the world for its programmatic versatility, artistic excellence and charismatic personality. Working without a conductor, the nine-member ensemble explores music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century, performing more than 60 concerts each year on national and international tours, as well as in its home of Minneapolis-St. Paul, and has released 17 albums on its own self-titled label.

I lost my dad to Covid yesterday. My tribute to him on Facebook almost quoted this song verbatim, even though I hadn't heard it before. My pastor shared the song with me, and I haven't stopped listening to it. The soaring melodies that accompany the revelations of truth get me every time. Thank you, Dr. Ysaye Maria Barnwell, and thank you, Cantus!

So very sorry for your loss Gregg.
A friend lost her aunt last week. I feel God gave me the comforting thought & reminder of a Twilight Episode In The Dark. That the moment she (& your father) died, God himself greeted them, like the apostle Stephen. And in an instant, all pain & suffering was forgotten.
Also Robert Redford, who played Mr Death, in that episode was such a beautiful comfort about facing death. Wishing you peace & healing

My heart is with the little guy who is dwarfed by the others. I'm short too and I can sympathize!

With a voice like that, he's got nothing to worry about.
