i was trilled to see Sweet Honey live here in Hawaii & met them after, i am a nature/adventure photographer, i always carry some of my photo/greeting cards w/ me & i showed them, Ysaye really liked them ( i do mostly dolphins in the wild and volcano shots) i gladly gifted her some, it makes me feel good that i was able to gift her/them something cuz lord knows they have been gifting me since the 70s!!! God Bless you Ysaye...thank you for all the love/beauty you have spread/shared...my mom/best friend died 2020, while she was taking her last breaths i played this song and was singing it to her...also for years i have sung/hummed this song to the dolphins...

Ysaye - I am grateful to have not known of you, of your history and standing, when I first met you in the mountains of Colorado - so I could see you through my own eyes (rather than through the plastic lenses of fandom). Years before, Sweet Honey boomed from a boombox at my daughter's birth, but still I didn't know you as that voice who joined the wails and overpowered the beeps and bloops. How wonderful, that you are so wonderful, and that you share your wonder (and fullness) with unequalled majesty and humility. Happy Birthday!

I feel so blessed to have met Ysaye Barnwell in Toronto after becoming a community choir leader. She is a living legend, and I will forever be grateful, inspired, touched, and blessed for being in the presence, and learning from, such a remarkable, gifted, and open-hearted human being. Happy Birthday Ysaye! Or as we sing in Sing for Joy, my local community choir that got me started on this blessed path: "Happy birthday to you! We''re so glad that you're alive. You're a gift from the Earth. Bless the day of your birth."

The first time I heard this was when Sweet Honey performed it at their annual concert at Carnegie Hall. The tears started about a quarter of the way through and didn't stop. The song makes you think of that one person. That one person. It brings me to my knees every time. Dr. Barnwell is pure genius.

This is so beautiful! Do you remember my mother, Jane Faigaio? I think she was part of the folks that brought you to Naropa back when I was a kid. I grew up to be a musician and singer. This song has filled my heart. I knew there was a reason I woke up this morning!
