I was there on Bonaire. The homeplace of Tonky Frans. Standing ‘knee-deep’ in the the water we had a nice chat. Very friendly guy. I was filming a bit with my GoPro. He made some great loops right in front of me. Incredible how he does that! No waves! Nothing! And his power jibes are soooo smooth.
At 1:10 you see the secret. 1) nose pointed almost downwind when he begins the rotation. 2) back hand at least 1' down the boom to the back. 3) tuck the tail up under your butt hard. You can do this on dead flat water if you're powered enough.
Put back your hand back. Not too hard to do but well finished. Vidar Jensen was the best with one or no hand. Mike Eskimo was doing no hand killer loop.

He's one of the best riders out there but always has time for a chat. Top bloke
Killing IT Like Always ! Bonaire Pride !!
looks like a big double back strapped board and big sail too! very impressive on flat water
He makes it look easy no matter the gear. I think it's a 5.7 and ~110 litres. I imagine the big fin must give lots of pop.
I saw him doing front loops back in 2000 as a teenager. His front loop was not as smooth but he had higher jump. It was totally awesome.
Definitely the best flat water spinloop in the world
The guy’s a wizard!
Despite all the modern freestyle moves which seem incredible, clean fast loops still can split the top guys, not all of them can do them so well
I agree - tonky is a league above!
Abs agree, good luck and these attached are not even one of his better ones :D Tonky is the best!
Go Tonky! Let’s go!
2:05 😊

I think the secret is to pull the boom against your chest during the entire rotation - but of course I stll couldn't do it
He is best
Later this season?
I hope so!
the size of the sail was 5.4?
yep 😅

Super you can really see that back hand go way back, after hooking out
