  • I tried a very small board and it did not go so well. I managed one nice run and a gybe before I fell in, and then I was unable to get the board foiling again. I had to be rescued by the owner of the board because the wind dropped!

    Small boards are super fun... when you are adequately powered.

    When a foot change messes up your ride 🙃I feel you 100 percent! This is quite how my first session on a 55 litre board went.

    I think the 500cm2 foil was holding you back in this wind. 40L board is fine down to about 12knots. Try a seated dip start or laying diagonally across the board so that just your chest is on the board and most of your weight is off the board keeping it close to the surface wait for a gust before popping to your knees quickly so that the board doesn't sink too low.

      I agree. I tried the board the day before with a 800cm foil and it went a bit better (it was also more windy). What is a seated dip start? It was definitely my technique holding me back more than my weight - when I gave the gear back to its owner he got foiling straight away!

      @@WhiteSliceMedia ua-cam.com/video/VclY4e6WKZs/v-deo.html the seated dip start is the first one. In light wind I like to lay across the board with just my chest on the board holding the front handle on the nose this keeps the board closest to the surface of any start wait until a gust before popping up on the board

    It doesn't looklike their is enough wind.

    Next time try just taxying back while straddling the board "rodeo" style.
    Doesn't look sexy but can get you out of sticky situation in an emergency.
    Going upwind like this is not very easy tho...
    Something similar happened to me while trying out my new narrow sinker board (60L)

    I’m going to be in Bonaire in a couple weeks and bringing my foil. Do you have a recommendation for a good spot for Kite Foiling? What’s the wind like this time of year?

    • @WhiteSliceMedia
      @WhiteSliceMedia  Рік тому +1

      The only place you can kitefoil is at the kite beach, I think it's called Atlantis. From there you can go out into the ocean, but kitesurfers aren't allowed in lac bay, where this video was filmed. The wind should be good at this time of year - plenty for kite foiling! In February we had >18 knots almost every day

      Luckily they rescued me quickly and it’s a very safe spot! The board was incredible once in the air so definitely worth it.

    Daft to use such a small board in such light wind isn’t it.

    • @WhiteSliceMedia
      @WhiteSliceMedia  Рік тому +1

      You could say so! For me I wouldn't normally use a board like this unless it was at least 16 knots. However the guy using it was making it look easy so I thought I'd give it a go

      What do you mean? What is sensible gear?

    • @davidbuckley9209
      @davidbuckley9209 Рік тому +4

      @@cefirmeza Well you are a skilled waterman and you could not get yourself back in. That is not sensible! Windsurfing killed itself with a constant push toward smaller gear. You are currently giving "air time" to gear that is too small for most wingers to use.

      @@davidbuckley9209 I agree with your sentiment but also this video proves the point that you are making which is that too small isn't much fun. SO if anything this video is giving people the right information. Small can really suck.

      @@davewestfoils Don't mind me guys, I am just Grumpy Old Man! White Slice is bringing great energy to his videos and I really respect and appreciate what he does. It's hard not to gravitate to the extreme side but everyonce once in a while let's all try and highlight and promote user friendly equipment. I love that with windsurf foiling I can ride one board with a healthy volume in light air and 30 knots. That's amazing! But it rarely gets mentioned and there is still a stigma that high volume is only for beginner gear.
