    This video is extremely helpful. I am getting into loading for my 30-30 and I have the same bullets to load. Primers are the issue for me locally right now and online. But I look forward to loading for it.

    Classic 30/30
    My 40+ year jacketed load is WW748 & a Hornady 170 sp. my load is above curent data as it has been redused over the years but its a solid 2200+ fps from 20" barrels.
    My Cast load is a 165 cast bullet over 2400 @ 1750 fps.

    Maybe you should have ful leingth resize the new cases.The necks may be under size.

      I usually do with precision stuff, but didn't figure it was necessary for this particular test. If the neck were undersized, that would have been fixed when I ran the .306 expander through them.

    I have not liked results of 170gr flat-nose bullet for deer hunting, would recommend the 150gr round-nose better performance. I tried doing some reloading on my friends 30-30 bolt action, but he ended up selling before we found a accurate bullet combination. He has couple issues patience is not one of his best traits and he is a lever action guy. I will bet he has taken majority of his deer with Winchester 94 then all the other calibers, he hunts more in woods then open fields and most are open sight shots.

    I write on each case the load, I learned that after load a whole tray that tgen fell off my bench and spilled everywhere and I had no idea which was which.

    Did you maybe miss a few with the expander mandrel? If not, might need to anneal to get the necks to not spring back so much. You mentioned concentrisity, unless it's wildly bent(like to the point of not being able to chamber) then all the evidence suggests that concentrisity doesn't matter at all. I know that sounds weird, I FEEL like it has to matter, but multiple tests from multiple shooters over time, comparing groups of highest runout to groups of lowest or no runout, shows no difference and in some cases the highest runout groups have been tighter. You can play with concentrisity and do your own tests if you want, makes for a good video, and more data is never bad, but aside from that, I wouldn't lose sleep over concentrisity.

      Yep, I’ve heard the same about concentricity. And yeah I had a similar thought, but thought maybe the necks were TOO soft, making them deform easily during seating. The seating pressure was minimal and was consistent across the board. Changing the seating die 100% fixed the problem. Spoiler alert: I ended up loading all 50 rounds in this test over again, and used the RCBS die for everything with no further problems.

      @@TheOutdoorGeneralist lol yeah, wasn't sure if you just happened to only load the ones you missed with the mandrel, with the lee die. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it happens again, or unless you want to make a mini series investigating the issue, which could be fun. I assume you're not super worried about ultra match level precision with these specific loads, for 30-30, I'm usually happy with about 2-3 MOA. You probably already know, but if you are chasing ultra precision(bug hole groups or long range), pulling bullets kills all the components for that kind of application(with an inertia puller, some of the primer compound gets knocked into the powder, ruining both for high precision, and the projectile obviously gets jacked up enough to go in the "sighter's pile" for high precision rounds). For what you're doing here, I don't think any of that really matters very much. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see more videos!

    How can you set the sizing die,, headspace, without the rifle?

    • @TheOutdoorGeneralist
      @TheOutdoorGeneralist  Рік тому

      This is new brass, I didn’t run it through the sizing die. And since this is for a lever gun, I’ll probably never measure the base to shoulder datum line, I’ll just do a standard full-length resize.

    How do you like the Truweigh Lux? I’m looking to order it but just wanted to see how it was on accuracy

      It’s done well for me! It does wander once in a while close to start up, but a few minute warm up usually fixes that.
