    I've been hunting white-tail and hogs with this rifle for the last 5 years. It's been flawless for me. Drops everything I have shot, virtually zero felt recoil, and just a handy little accurate rifle. The first thing I did was hack the mag release down to a small little stub. I use factory Hornady ELD-M rounds on game woth great success.

    I don't think you advised, but what is the twist rate of your barrel? The twist can / will affect your results as you increase the speed and pressure level. If you want light recoil and a fantastic high-speed round, look at the blackbutterfly 160gr bullets. The rounds are made by Maker. Maker is the OG for manufacturering copper bullets used by the ammo companies.

    Nice buck, congratulations! Im very happy for you, but just think what that buck would have grown into as a 5 or 6yr old? I push this mindset on my farms and it's had a big impact on the size of bucks. I hope that more and more folks get behind this and it catches on all over. If people want big bucks to hunt, it means passing up on deer and giving them the time they need to mature fully. I know, I've heard it all. Things like "If i don't shoot it, then someone else will." This might be true but if you let a buck walk, his odds of making it through the season just went up by a lot. Just my .02

    Stovepipes are almost always caused by "limp wrist". A potential seller was surprised how EVERY shot I took resulted in a stovepipe, so he lowered his price by $100. Naturally, When I got to MY range, I never had a problem... Simple solution is to NOT relax the grip hand at the moment of trigger pull. As for ammunition, Seriously, other than bullet weight and Hollow point vs rounds, I've never seen any kind of accuracy difference between Cheap Wally world Bucket-O-Bullets trash vs hideously expensive $7 a small box "Match" Ammo. Bunnies don't care... Mind you I'm not a target shooter. I hunt bunnies, racoons, the occasional beer can and dirt clod... Oh, I failed to mention that I've been a massive Ruger pistol fan since the middle 70's. I have multiple Mk2's, a Mk3 Hunter which I gutted and turned into a Mk 2 internally, and an almost complete set of Mk 4's. Mk 3 Mags are the same as Mk4 . And Like you, my absolute favorite is also the Black Bull barreled Target! BTW, I once posted a short video about disassembly and assembly of the Mk 2. Unlike most people, I never had any kind of a problem cleaning them and putting them back together. But in reality I absolutely love how the Mk 4 disassembles. If you don't like the trigger, replace it. Kits are easily available. I have no problems with it.

    • @TheOutdoorGeneralist
      @TheOutdoorGeneralist 18 днів тому

      @@KandaJE thanks for watching! I bought this pistol because of how much I did like the MkII. Once I figured out the disassembly it wasn’t bad at all, but yeah the MkIV is nicer in that way. Admittedly, I haven’t shot more than a magazine or two through it in quite a while. When I want to shoot a .22 pistol, I always grab my Taurus TX-22 with a suppressor. I’ve shot several rabbits with it this year and if I happen to miss, they usually stop and give me a second chance within a few hops. The MkIV will probably be a project gun for me later on, threading the barrel, swapping the trigger, etc.

    Try getting some PPU (aka 'Prvi') B-345 heads. They are 174 grain, and they match the GP11 heads better than anything else I've tried, to the point where the bullet seats very happily at 3.060" COAL. The heads can vary a lot in weight (had as low as 172.5 and as high as 175.5gr, though that is over a couple of thousand heads) but they shoot pretty decent groups if you sort them into 0.2-0.3gr batches. The reloads also match the sight settings pretty well out to 600m, which is the furthest I've tried. If you are looking for more decent loads to try, give Vihtavuori N150 a go; 45.5 grain in fireformed cases gives me GP11 Vo, 780m/s. You'll need to load a touch lighter for virgin brass. I use PPU brass.
