Very clever!! I gotta try this someday! I live in dry as hell, nosebleed central Alberta and my moss poles can go from soaking wet to dried up in a couple hours 😅
🤣 So true, whenever I visit relatives there the first thing I do is make sure I have some kind of lip balm packed and small candies and buy a case of water as soon as I land. 😂🤣😂
Thank you for the video! A couple of questions before I make one: 1. How often do you water the big pole? 2. Have you had any plant mature on such a pole?
I usually add water every day... maybe every other day.. if you want to keep them damp. On this big pole I have my Hoya imbricata. It has put out a few new leaves.. but hasn't gone crazy. My other moss poles with philodendron are doing pretty good...and the Rhaphadophora tetrasperma love it... the roots don't take long to dig in..
@@PlantzNThings Alright thanks, I'll have to find another way, probably self-watering system or much wider inner tube. It's not fun to water a pole more often than plants.
Hi Bill just saw this diy and I would like to try it. I did a lot of moss pole diy but not the self watering one. What is the brand of the cord you use. I am so sorry if it’s in the link and I just don’t realize it🤣tia
it's certainly handy... i think i got it at Terra Greenhouse Years ago... its also on amazon... here's the link... 10 dollars with some velcro... not bad... they are refillable amzn.to/39hJ3LC
If you have the moss in firm contact with the soil I'm sure there will be some wicking happening... but if you leave a small gap between the soil and the moss you shouldn't have an issue... but in all honesty the top of the pole stays the most moist and near the bottom is more lightly damp... that pliable not moist but not crunchy stage. Hope this answered your question
it looks to be a brilliant idea.I'm so tired of spraying my moss poles couple of times everyday.I'm going to try to build your self watering pole
Have fun Creating. Let me know how it works for you
Thank you Bill🌺💚🙃
Any time!

These should help... you could possibly use a bigger pipe... so it holds even more water.... tweak it so it works best for your environment.
@@PlantzNThings I might do a third wick just so I don't have to worry about having too much volume taken up by the pipe, great suggestion!
Good Plan :)
Brilliant idea...thank you for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!

I updated the link to show wicking ord... Thank you for pointing it out that it was missing :)
Love it, definitely going to try this. I love the cutter for your plant tape, where did you get it?

@@PlantzNThings thanks Bill, I just ordered it 👍
Hi Bill. Any issue with water wicking down into soil? That’s my only concern.
