I'll add it to my hit list, just like Pacifico, Sisar, and Point Mugu. Thank you! Once the air clears, I'll get out to Big Bear. Nice to have something to look forward to these days...
@@GravelBikeCalifornia I think you'll recognize this one. It's my zoom background for all my online meetings, and it's 100% your doing.! Well nuts, I can't figure out how to post images! @@GravelBikeCalifornia Awesome! I really enjoy your videos! It's starting to get a little cooler here in Vancouver, so our summer riding season is coming to an end!
Where did you find the info about being allowed to ride the PCT? I was told you can't ride any sections? Would love to know what we sections we can. Thanks
@@dougsilcock9730 I did see no biking signs on the opposite sides of the road for other sections, so it was a bit more reassuring I didn't see them at both ends of this section.
I think in our post ride discussion, he preferred Refugio more for the scenery of the coast. I prefer this because the road conditions were better and who doesn't love riding in all those trees?
I've done a few videos on group rides, but I plan on breaking some of those down to gravel guides soon. Check out Backbone and Pt Mugu if you haven't yet.
Nice! Glad to see that there's an enjoyable gravel route in Big Bear, my previous 3 attempts to create a route there have all been riddled with a few lesser traveled fire roads that were out of the comfort zone of a gravel bike. You're lucky you stayed on the segment of Holcomb Valley that your route traversed, if you went any further east or west you'd hit some very chunky stuff that isn't fun. And this is coming from the guy who created the Cleghorn/Pilot Rock route and thought that was enjoyable. But yeah, the Skyline road and the stuff around the ski resorts is some of the most enjoyable gravel biking you'll find in SoCal.
Thanks for the video! I’ll be doing this route this summer/fall.
One of my favorites. I tried revisiting it last summer, but....fire danger...
Great video
Thanks. This was a real pleasure.
Did this exact route yesterday. Mind blown. Such an epic ride especially the PCT section. Thank you for sharing this!
I've been meaning to make this a Send It Ride at some point
Your videos are awesome. Killer ride!
Thanks much. I'm going to release a shorter, more-ridey version of this next week...
I definitely need to do that ride.
When the air clears...
This should be on GCN or network TV. It looks fantastic!
Good looking crew, but needs more closeups of the host...

It's worth it once the air clears. Share pics!!

Once again Zack, an epic day. Roadies do not know what they are missing.
It's the perfect blend between dirt and drop bars.
Another great video! You would enjoy riding in British Columbia! There are lots of amazing adventures to be had in Canada!
Absolutely. I've ridden there before and have a lot of family in Vancouver. ciclavalley.org/biking-vancouver-part-2-cypress-mountain/

Curious what’s Vic’s #1 and #2 rides?
Probably one of these: ua-cam.com/video/Jksy8yHsKMU/v-deo.html
man... one of these days i gotta make it down there and join ya'll for some of these!
Plenty of time. We have a whole decade in front of us!!
@@GravelBikeCalifornia what happens in a decade? 😱
@@mrpercussive Hopefully, this lockdown will end...
Would you happen to have a strava route for this?
Not a proper strava route, but check the article for an updated GPS file.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia thank you for replying ! Appreciate your videos!
This is my hometown and do these rides regularly. There is lots more. Next time you're up, let me know
One of these days I'll organize a group ride. It was ideal.
Where did you find the info about being allowed to ride the PCT? I was told you can't ride any sections? Would love to know what we sections we can. Thanks
This small section didn't have no bikes sign entering and exiting, and was going by local knowledge. The hikers were courteous as we went by.
Ok great I have a route planned and 4 miles of it has the PCT. My wife is an avid PCT hiker and told me she would be me up if I try it. Haha.
@@dougsilcock9730 I did see no biking signs on the opposite sides of the road for other sections, so it was a bit more reassuring I didn't see them at both ends of this section.
Zack, another gem of a video and fantastic route. Thank you for taking us along. Now the question is Vic, which 2 routes are better?
I think in our post ride discussion, he preferred Refugio more for the scenery of the coast. I prefer this because the road conditions were better and who doesn't love riding in all those trees?
Between which two?
@@GravelBikeCalifornia a different setting is always an advantage in my book! So I hear ya.
How long did it take to ride the 43 miles?
Rolling time was just under four hours. Not a hard pace.
What tire width would you suggest for this ride? You think you can do some of the trails in Calabasas area, Ridge road trail, or the ET trail?
We were mostly on 40s (Bill on 35s). That's more than enough width.
I've done a few videos on group rides, but I plan on breaking some of those down to gravel guides soon. Check out Backbone and Pt Mugu if you haven't yet.
40’s
@@GravelBikeCalifornia I have, but wasn't sure if you did Calabasas, Millennial trail, et trail or ridge road trail
Great video and thanks for sharing the route. Tubed or tubeless?
I'm still tubed because I change tires so much. Did it specifically for this ride, but in the end, I would have been fine on 37s.

Luckily, Todd had scouted all the routes before. Still, the adventurer in me wants more!
do you have a Stava recording of the ride?
There's a link in the description.
