I went out in the afternoon in search of Ruffed Grouse to catch and cook. After a successful ruffed grouse hunt I made my way down in elevation to do some mushroom foraging to add to my meal. My goal was to bag a ruffed grouse, get some mushrooms and some wild tea makings then cook it up over a camp fire. I ran out of daylight and ended up making oven roasted grouse at home. It was a great adventure!

pro tip. Cover the cast iron pan with foil then bake it then when you go to broil it remove the foil. It will stay moist and then broiling just adds a little crisp to it.
Great tip!
Man....I need to start a youtube channel like this so I can tell my wife I am "working" when I go out hunting. :)
Yes! I like the way you think haha
I’m so glad I found your channel. So much to learn from you. I’m moving to western WA and looking forward to hunt there. That meal looked delicious btw!
Thank you! Yeah western WA has some underrated grouse hunting in my humble opinion. Where are you moving from? Thanks for watching!
@@CascadeBackcountry From Arizona. My wife is from WA and I love it up there. So much adventure!
Yeah there's a lot to do here for sure! Hope you get to get out and get some grouse or do some fishing!
Binge watching as I do accounting. Engagement +1
Don't get distracted and make a mistake!
Greetings from Indonesia my brother
Greetings!! How's the fishing over there?
Best. Channel. Ever. (Says a >50 year old luddite who hates the internet and has never had a social media account until I signed up for this one to post this message).
Oh man, that's awesome. Thank you! Funny you say that... I also have zero other social media beside UA-cam. Thanks again. Glad you're enjoying the channel!
It's licorice fern, licorice doesn't grow here and they are two totally different plants. Im an herbalist so i knida nerd out on that stuff. Either way the meal looks yummy!
This video is pretty old. I dunno what term I used but I've always known it as licorice root or licorice fern. Not actual licorice tho. Been chewing on the stuff since I was a little kid! Thanks for watching!
Where do you grouse hunt in wa , make a video that explains what you look for to find grouse please , maybe rabbit as well if you're up for it
Hello there! I generally hunt in northwest Washington on the west side of the Cascade mountains. I look for old logging roads with public access, most likely with a gate to minimize pressure. I like mixed forests and draws with creeks in them. I would love to make a kind of "how to" grouse hunt western Washington video.. gonna have to wait till next grouse season, September 1st. Can't wait! I'll see what I can come up with for rabbits too. Thanks for watching!
@@CascadeBackcountry I figured you where on the east side , maybe we could hunt some small game together sometime if youre down
Well I mostly grouse hunt and like I said.. gotta wait almost 8 months for that 😪
Find an old logging road or some sort of public land road. You could use a 22. rifle but a 16,20, or 410 gauge shotgun works best.
