I spent several days in the Cascade mountains of Washington state looking for the elusive ruffed grouse, also called the forest grouse to do a grouse catch and cook. Day one was super cold and I saw only one grouse but the second day I saw about six grouse whilst hunting and flushed five more grouse on my walk home. I took the grouse the next day and fried it up with the Jetboil. It was AWESOME! Thanks for watching :)

Engagement +1 Good stuff
Thanks! Is +1 good? Haha
Love the videos. Really informative for a guy new to Washington. It will help me get ready to really hit the woods in Skagit vally this year. I am stoked to begin to learn my new terrain this year.
Thanks! Welcome to WA. Hit some old logging roads. Put in some miles and time. Be persistent. You WILL find birds and figure em out!
Yes to grouse hunting ! One of my favorite things to do. Looked delicious!
Grouse hunting only ended 3 weeks ago and I'm already ready for Sept 1st! Deep fried anything is delicious.. but especially grouse!
I used your EXACT recipe for grouse I shot on the westside yest...potatoes an all...it was DELICIOUS. Thx for that.
That's awesome! Deep fried grouse is so good. I got another grouse catch n cook coming out this Sunday at 8am where I fry up some grouse, slightly differently tho. Check it out!
Just bought myself a brand new 20gauge can't wait to go grouse hunting again, it's been nearly 10 years!
Awesome! Glad you're getting out there. What part of the country you hunt?
@@CascadeBackcountry Im in Quebec, Canada!
Cheers from up north man
@@SatanicTemptation right on! Cheers :)
This is so cool! I've really wanted to learn to grouse hunt since moving to Washington. I do a lot of public land upland fishing but never any hunting.
Grouse hunting can be tricky but with a little patience and a decent pair of boots you can be eating bush chicken for dinner! Highly recommend 👌
Man that looks amazing. Here in AZ I get dove and quail. I’ve never try grouse but you got me craving it. We are relocating and I Can’t wait to hunt WA
Nice! Yeah man just head out some old logging roads and see what happens! Grouse is delicious for sure.. probably tastes like dove and quail haha
Great vid as always
Thanks! Appreciate it :)
Just subscribed. I want to start hunting off my KTM 500.
Rad! It definitely helps to zip around out in the woods, especially since a lot of grouse hunting is done from old logging roads. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching!
Man I'm glad I found your channel. I just subbed!! I am new to hunting and do it all alone. I have property in okanogan county and live in marysville. I dont wanna make that drive everytime to get skunked lol. So im glad to know I can try over here. Think up the Mnt Loop would be any good?
That's awesome! Thank you! I think grouse hunting alone and on foot is best, when you're alone you can be quiter and tune into the sights and sounds around you. Grouse are finicky and ya really gotta be tuned in. Usually your opportunity for a shot is 2 seconds.. although sometimes they just stand in the middle of the road haha I think you can be successful in Okanogan or on the west side. Just find some untravelled logging roads and start walking. You'll key into their habits and such pretty fast! Maybe I'll do a PNW grouse hunting tips video if I get some interest in that. Good luck :)
@@CascadeBackcountry thanks so much for the info ill try it out this weekend!!
@@RockMonger Let me know how it goes!
@@CascadeBackcountry ok I will! Thanks again!
You all can go rock climbing with me. Tim is just scared!
Coleman literally doesn't know how to tie shoes.. if you go rock climbing with him you WILL die 100%
This is fake news. Trust me, I'm a doctor.
This is true.. he is indeed a doctor.. ladies......
What part of Washington are you in.?
I live in the northwestern part. The best part? Haha 😄
@@CascadeBackcountry at least not Seattle.! I’m in the Olympia area and do a fair amount of grouse hunting. That usually gets interrupted when duck season opens. Like your channel, good stuff.!
Definitely not Seattle. I feel like western Washington gets overlooked for decent grouse hunting.. which is fine by me! Some nice mountains down your way. Probably with some nice fish 😀 Thanks for watchin!
Which is the best type of gun to shoot Grouse, Quail and Pheasant, a shot gun, bb gun or pellet rifle?
Lightweight 20 gauge shotgun is the way to go! Easy to pack around all day 😁
Is that a mossie 410.
That is a Mossberg 12 gauge. Think I picked it up for like $100 about 20 yrs ago! Probably should upgrade but it works fine for now. Thanks for watching :)
12 more days......😁
I am ready! You hunt western WA?
@@CascadeBackcountry Im ready, and yes im on the wet side.
How has it been for you the past few years grouse hunting? Its been really bad for me. Went out scouting and it looks like it might be a decent year, fingers crossed.
Has been pretty decent. I have access to some spots that aren't really accessible to the general public so it kinda feels like cheating haha I don't over hunt those spots tho. I've still had pretty good luck on public land too tho (which is 80% of where I go)
I'm excited to get out here in a few days and walk some old logging roads. Been scouting some spots :)
