Really exceptional acting. He pushes off hank immediately but as the set up for drinking continues it’s harder to fight it. Now the filled glass is sitting there. He picks it up and has one last chance to contemplate and back out when suddenly hank clinks glasses. He takes one sip. He processes it. This is a taste so familiar yet so alien. He loves it. It warms him. It brings his repressed but true nature to the top of his throat ready to spill out of his body. He is ready. Down the hatch.
So glad Jason was on his best friend's show. Scientology tried to break them up, it glad to know once he wished up that their friendship was back to normal. He said they had been best friends since junior high.
Hank’s a true chaotic neutral. He insists on sharing a drink with a contemporary, and when he realizes he accidentally makes him relapse, he doesn’t try very hard to cut him off. I guess he knows everyone is one situation from spiraling out and he just tap dances on that line. Even when Bates challenged him to a fight to the death, he doesn’t take it seriously.
In reality he would have relapsed sooner or later anyway. Hanging out with other narcissists and hardcore addicts like Hank will at some point trigger the need for " escapism" from his repressed trauma. The anger and willingness to use violence to get his " fix", just show that he had not done his inner work with a therapist.
@@Ikaros23 Yeah definitely. A lot of the Hollywood I types know are struggling alcoholics who are proudly sober, but still hang out with other alcoholics. I agree, Hank isn't really to blame- Bates has his own shit he needs to deal with.
Paul it's tea. And that's an 10oz glass at best. It's three fingers of whiskey/scotch, if you can't handle it then don't drink. That pour wasn't meant to be done all at once, which is why Hank even is looking at him like Bates is a psychopath.
Ryan Boyle moron, I didn't think it was ACTUAL whiskey. And that's clearly an insane 'fake' pour, it is more than half a glass. Contrast it with how much Hank puts in his glass. . That's why I called it a set up. Calm down
What looks strange about this scene and is kind of poorly directed is that Hank pours himself a regular one serving and pours his glass full. It just dont look normal when Hank pours him way more.
Moody and Bates have such a well-written TV relationship 🥰
He also appeared on The X-Files with David.
They are irl friends
Bates was a badass.
Sean Hastings yes!
Sean Hastings my second favorite character
still is
He is in chicago pd
Now who wants to see me tuck and do the pee pee dance
I can't be the only one
Eat my peach baby, blow on my dice!

@@typereiter thank you. I have my moments
I second that reply. VERY well written. It’s uncommon to find it in of all places in the comment section of YT. Nice to see :)
Cheers from Toronto, 🇨🇦
Wow thank you so much for explaining EXACTLY what we all just witnessed
And then he does the PP dance
This just might be one of the DOUCHIEST youtube comments I've ever seen.

" He doesnt try very hard to cut him off" seriously? Bates had (literally) Hank by the balls, what do you want him to do?

richard bates is one my best favorite such a cool character what is not there not to like of him
There´s at least 1 min before and after this that needs to be in the scene...
Obviously it's a setup for the scene, but honestly, who pours 8 shots of whiskey in someone's glass

@@kassu9123 I think Hank poured him that much to show how much in awe of him he was
I love that man Gina lol 😅
'I'll be upstairs'
“Now pour me another “ 😊
Bates, fuck yeah.
Batesy was amazing
Why'd he pour Richard a triple?
Can anyone tell me what kind of whiskey they’re drinking? I see that bottle in several episodes but I can make out the label.
probably
Jameson
2 months ago, but I think it's a whiskey prop bottle only used for the show, but it resembles a 12 YO Glenlivet
@@Ghyll LoL Noone can drink jameson like that :)
21 yo glenlivet
It gets easier - Bojack Horseman quote...
Harry Hank Voight?
This was some great acting by Jason/Bates. The temptation, the resistance & the surrendering. F**k me.
Noticed the bubbles in his drink?
Yeah that was a fumble
He didn't know
Next scene he walks in the room ass naked LUL
Lol classic!
Haha they worked together in an episode of the X-Files (Darkness Falls) in 1994 😂 Even back then there was some sexual tension 😅
Richard Bates > Hank Moody
Mangina bush league
Trash television at its finest
Oh shut up
You’re opinion, don’t watch it!
