My top one remains that chunky rock looking building made of timber. I liked that it gave off a shy and introverted vibe, but matched it with very warm wood interiors. I also think the exterior would look amazing after some years of bad weather. Still have liked this second batch better overall
It's been incredible, I feel like I've gone on an entire journey with you, well done for keeping this up and so consistently delivering these videos. I may not always agree with your opinions but I do respect them!
Great content once again!! And a sharp thought process! It’s impressive how clearly you cut through the noise in our field (You’re quite young to achieve that)! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!!
You loving boxes so much, 125 being both your top project from this hundered, and 125 being a cubic number, is pure fate! Out of this one hundered you name most of my favourite 10, with some differences explained simply by different tastes, and you being an architect and myself not, so you're looking for different things from a submission. A good set of 100, 423 more to go! As for format, I might suggest 33 per video? I think that might hit that sweet spot for video length (around 1h), enough to keep the pace going, not too many to become over-saturated by architecture (or "just buildings"!)
Well spotted! Is a box destined to win? As for the format, still trying to nail it, 10 per 30 minute episode is the episode to produce. Still a long way to go, will get it right eventually!
Great video as always Cathal. I am really enjoying your channel. A few thoughts: I strongly agree with your take on #157. Too many times (I see this especially with students but even some professional designers in the industry, they get into the rut of creating a super crazy or complex building - simply because it 'looks cool' or to 'stand out from the competition.' That's not the point. There needs to be defendable reasoning behind a design - whether the reader agrees with it or not. Think of it like a thesis. Your thesis can be boiled down to a single, core idea - and in really successful cases, literally everything is done with the thought and aim of supporting (or disproving) that idea. Down to the last detail. Yes, 157 might be a box. However, it's not always supposed to be cutting edge design with swoops and curves and crazy angles just for the 'sake' of it. Instead, the designer should be really focused on how it addresses the local context and brief, how it responds to the site and the local vernacular, and most importantly - Does. It. Function. I really hate how overused the "form follows function" schtick is, but boy is it the truth. If your start your form by creating a cool 'shell' first, and proceed to reverse design your program and throw furniture in left and right - then all it is, is a glorified Walmart box store. Not a very strong or logical way to design - Designing experiences first then figuring out how the exterior works, is much stronger way to design - In my opinion at least xD Great work again! I hope your channel takes off soon. -Rob
Thank you for the nice comment Rob! This is usually my point regarding boxes. It is much more difficult to do the simple things well. Anyone can bring crazy ideas to the table, 'building' those ideas is a different story!
Am I the only one really tired of spiral stairs? They seem to be in almost every project, and it’s getting tiresome how some projects force this type of stair randomly. Anyway, this 100 series was already much better than the first one. I hope the next 100 will be even better. When is it coming out?
Very much aligned. 157 is particularly egregious, at least in the render (awkwardly squished into a space that doesn't appear to accommodate it, and at a scale that allows for exactly one person to utilize at time, how fun!). Ubiquitous spiral staircases, green roof everything, and giant empty lobbies are my least favorite trends so far.
@@johnc.325 Nothing kills my interest than a dull lobby CGI. Not always the fault of the architect, these are the images the competition organisers want us to see but still.....most are very dull
From the submissions so far 111, 142 and 103 are in my top 5 too, supplemented by the poop emoji/mastaba thing and the original half-done facade one from the first hundred. 157 seems to use its massive, very expensive to heat volume poorly. 125 would be cool as a Californian villa or car dealership, but it seems just blown up and out of place. There's nothing to suggest the multiuse lobby is feasible: No vestibule to isolate noise and draft, harsh surfaces everywhere, no black block where chairs, pianos and other stuff would go. It would be miserable to sit there for 90 minutes with your stomach getting cold and teenagers knocking on the glass and giving you all the finger.

I’m not against the use of AI in architectural renders if it genuinely serves the project. However, in some cases, it seems like the project is designed to serve the AI render instead. I also believe that if others can easily spot the overuse of AI, it likely indicates that the person using it doesn’t yet have enough knowledge or experience with the tool…
I touch on this in my latest episode. When i started out with the review series, this was a huge issue for me. As time goes on I sort of care less. The debate around Ai and Architecture is happening around us in real time so i can only say what I think about it right now. Its boring and its uninspiring but if an architect wants to use it as a tool then fair enough... For the record. I am NOT a fan of Ai generated imagery

I have a big problem with the 'noise'!

Thank you! Onwards!

Another one. Very good.
The way you say "character" is awesome
I cant help it!

I still like the Baltic Diamond more than all of these! And the chunky timber one 😅
love the baltic diamond! I mention it again in the latest episode

working on something! SOON
157 is my favorite so far
I am a big fan!
Im a bit sad to not see 138 in your top five, but i guess its probably 'cause their presentation was too vague.
I really liked 138. The drawings and presentation were incredible and very unique. The building itself? Hard to tell.....
Doesn't anyone find it weird how common AI usage is in these entries ?

@temporarydiscussion 100 % agree!
Oh also, last video Ep.14 2:32 - "Not that I'm like scoring the video..." can we get a scoring video? No? okay. Thought I'd ask.
103 exterior ir so horrible
