Very comfortable teaching skills there Rebecca. You didn't over or underestimate the ability of the rider, but gave her some challenges she could achieve. I personally am headed to the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route in 2.5 months and will turn 63 on the trail. Always great seeing what you're up to. Watching you during the 1990's racing the EcoChallenge was a fantastic memory.

Great video, thanks for sharing! I just turned 52 and on my birthday bike ride thought about the plan my younger self had to bike across the U.S. I concluded there are no do-overs/getting younger so I better get moving! Your ride seems like a good intro. Thanks for sharing your gear, too…that was helpful.

Excellent, you had me at pie shop. Actually I started bikepacking after 60. It’s really never too late to earn your pie.

Honestly...the pie was OK, but for sure the rest of the trip had so many other highlights that outshone the pie!

If you ever make it to Iowa for RAGBRAI, there's pie galore on the weekly ride in every town.

It's not the destination, it's the journey. Not a race here.

I’m 59. I started in Miami on April 29. I am 1100 miles in, solo, and headed to Seattle. What a great experience. Here are some videos.

I started doing ultra after age 50. 32km rides ended up 18months later to be 4000km race across Europe. I was always fit. Not every ride had to be a race. I am never going to win an ultra and really don’t care. I camp out most nights with very few in a hotel when I can’t stand the stink.
It’s super safe for women and guys ( i am a guy ) as I often camp late and leave early don’t be afraid to wild camp. UK and Europe is very benign environments maybe some parts of the USA Canada maybe needs more care.
The chance of accidentally meeting a rapist, murderer or robber is extremely low indeed.
I always take a satellite tracker as my fall back SOS device and Rebecca does too.
I only wonder if people as expert as Rebecca or trying to copy my efforts of 32km then 64km then 100KM and an overnighter and eventually 4000km feel they can’t do it because they are too fat, too unfit, drink too much or too old. YOUR NOT
My mum is 80 yrs old and 18months ago rode across Europe on an E bike around 2000km but stayed in hotels each night. So there is a way to have better health never mind bikepacking to the North Pole.
