Audi RSQ8 Review - The Urus killing Super SUV!

- Hey guys and welcome back to RBR! And to the Spearhead of the #AudiSport RS family: the RSQ8. It’s deemed by Audi as the sportiest Q, and it undoubtedly is, with 600BHP & 800NM it’s a veritable Hulk from #Audi, a car that gives Lambo Urus owners nightmares due to the internal similarities and it should, as it’s the current king of the Nurburgring as far as SUVs go.
But it is a car that confuses the rest of us as to why it exists. A niche within a niche when the RS6 exists and the RSQ3 is so good. So let’s explore today what makes the RSQ8 tick!
Up until now the sportiest RS Q car has been the RSQ3. We had huge fun in the recent one, with it’s sweet sounding cylinder engine and looks way above class matching the RSQ8 today. On the other side of the spectrum, the most desirable RS has to be the RS6. 592BHP, 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and the sexiest sport estate body ever designed. It fits in most of our ideal garages...
This RSQ8, seeks to meld both of these worlds into what Audi Sport are calling their spearhead. Heavy car at 2.4 tonnes. So let’s see what they have done to make the normal Q8 an Audi Sport member with a full look at the interiors of this V8 twin turbo 600BHP tank!
We must also explore how it weighs up against the plethora of Rivals from inside VAQ group, like the Urus and Cayenne Turbo, RS6, SQ8 and the monster outs GLE63S from AMG! So today we explore:

Not a spearhead for Audi, more of a mallet! 😅 I really thought the Urus would be obsolete, but I guess I was wrong. A superb daily, but I’m certain the SQ8 is a better bet; any owners care to chime in?

i like how petrolheads always question the existence of SUVs and i do agree with them to some extent like why would you need a superfast SUV that drives in a straight line way slower than your average estate/car in this case, but then that answers your question when you ask is the rsq8 the best because you get SUVs that are quicker in a straight line than an rsq8 (x6M,CayenneTurboS and the Urus) and yet the rsq8 comes out way better than all of them including all other SUVs than are not SUVcoupes on the ring. if the audiRSQ8 is the best on the track (nurburgring) and all that petrolheads all fantasize about is taking their cars out on track then surely the rsq8 is the best and amongst all SUVs its existence is justified way more than any other SUV on the planet. when the x6 and gleCoupe came it was an awakening as they started the trend of SUV coupes being cool all the way down to the Cullinan and now the upcoming ferrari SUV but even then i felt that they looked way to big, unnecessary and their existence never justified. if im getting a daily its defineitely the rsq8 and guess what it turns out to be great on the track (the greatest) and thats the only SUVcoupe ill ever get as stock, the urus still looks not as nice in stock, id get it after its gone to manhart, mansory or brabus. and yes i drive an rsq8 the next one ill get is the next facelifted one but after i take it to manhart or abt for tuning (as i doubt it will be any faster than the urus in a straight line) then of course ill get the urus which is undoubtedly beautiful but will take it over to mansory or brabus probably two (for myself and my other). amongst other SUVs i have the svr, gwagons*, autobio and other offroads i dont think need mentioning
@@antkohh9791 you are paying an extra 100k for the name (urus). Personally I would take the RSQ8 all day long. Weather the Urus is slightly faster makes no difference really as the RSQ8 has more than enough power for everyday driving and is faster than 99% of cars on the road
I have owned my SQ8 (diesel version) now for almost a year and I must say that I would never replace it with a RSQ8 especially now with the newly released petrol version of the SQ8. The car is competent enough as a daily car, it can be ordered with a lot of the extras that can be found in the RS (carbon, alcantara, ceramic brakes etc.).
I agree with the 0-100 lag, its the same on the SQ8 but from lets say 50 and onwards its extremely fast and the acceleration is impressive.
I didnt buy it for the engine sound, if I want to hear pops and bangs my 911 is the first choice. Even though the sound is ”fake” on the SQ8 I still enjoy it.
Best car i have owned it has the speed, its large enough to use for my hunting trips and the daily use I need it for. Not mentioned but the air suspension is great and very usable.
I had the choice between a SQ8 and RSQ8 (as well as the other brands). I chose the SQ8. It had, to me, the best styling over the other brands. And the RSQ8 had limited external/internal color combinations, none of which were my preference. The SQ8 with the Sports Package is plenty of car for me!
Behind the scenes fact: Filmed back in August during “help out to eat out” in the UK: commensurate added weight to my mid section. Happy to report my power to weight ratio is much better these days, not that it matters. 🤷🏻♂️

Would love a RS6 or a RSQ8, they share so many similar mechanical bits that the RSQ8 is essentially a taller RS6.
I never drove the RSQ8 but wanted an Urus. I love my Urus and can’t believe how well it drives! Drives better than almost any car I’ve driven that includes all M cars. Don’t have an ounce of buyers remorse. But if you’re thinking about the RSQ8, just get it!!

Agreed Mate. The urus is a near perfect car. Keep in mind they haven't depreciated that much since launch

The only suv I would rather have over this beauty is the range rover sport svr. It might not be as fast but its still insanely quick for an suv, but I think its the best looking inside and out, I think it easily sounds the best with that 5.0 engine. Its also the only proper super suv. Thats very tall, you sit up high, and it will destory them all on offroad its a proper offroader.

The sq8 is an interesting point now especially since the new tfsi engines are being put in them. When they had the tdi I think there was more of an argument for going the extra mile and going for the RSQ8 but now I am genuinely curious to see owners or potential buyers why they’d spend the extra cash. Cracking video and valid points all round especially at the end about convincing people who want an suv going for an estate just not happening!
Exactly the reason I bought the 2021 SQ8 TFSI petrol over this… the extra 15-30k didn’t justify. Plus I can also add the ABT upgrade 8k to get 650 HP
I've watched a few RS Q8 vids & most of them were very complimentary of the sound... you're the first one to complain. Everyone to their own I guess.
I sold my RS4 about 12 mths ago. It was the best car I ever owned. Owned for 7 years I only ever did regular servicing and required zero additional maintenance. I haven’t replaced it yet but I think this is exactly as you described, a hybrid RS6 and RSQ3, and might be what need.
I love the new RS4, review coming soon. Better than all of the above.

I wish he compared it to the BMW X6M and GLE 63s Coupe. They all fall within the same price point. The Cayenne GTS Coupe cost the same as the rest roughly but the performance isn’t on par with the other cars mentioned above. My question is do you think the Cayenne GTS is a better buy over the rest, maybe even with a performance chip tune? SN- does anyone know if you can tow with the BMW X6M? It doesn’t come from factory with a tow hitch in the US.

Not a huge RSQ8 fan but really liked this review format and level of detail.
I suspect the acceleration lag is more a “on purpose attenuation” to prevent savage torque snapping shit up
It’s also typically Audi, the rs6 has the same flaw. Not responsive as their competitors..

@@Stuttgart1887 lol, Ive owned both... there is some lag on the RS6, but it still feels more torquey low down than my M5 comp did... M5 comp has more top end, from 3rd onwards... but we know the comp is really running north of 650bhp in reality... Once I tuned my C8, it completely removed the lag entirely... I do think its manufactured lag, as the car has twin scroll turbos, which are lag free... the motor is a monster, and we will see 900bhp on stock turbos within the next year from APR... pretty insane.

It’s not a secret that audi rs has great engines but I wondered why they had this little response lag probably thought because of the transmission. Did you get some warranty after your tuning?
I have a challenge for you: instead of just doing exterior comparisons with visual graffics, so interior comparisons. As you know AMG has been strong in interiors the past few years and it’d be nice to see against Porsche, Audi, etc.

You know that there is no official time on the Ring for Urus. The same can be said about X5/6 M or the new GLE 63 S. I think both the X5/6 M and the Urus are faster on the Ring.
Maybe because they don't want to post time that they know are slower ?
I was going to say the same. And I saw a video where they track tested a Urus, X5 M, RS Q8 and I think a Cayenne Turbo. The RS Q8 was the slowest and the Urus was the fastest with I believe the X5 M in 2nd.

Great review as always. I’ve had the RSQ8 carbon edition just under a month now, coming from a panamera 4s hybrid..drives like a suv and my only gripe is the lack of pops and bangs. Looking at the ABT tuning to get the Rev limiter removed and hopefully add the noises back

Honestly I'd rather have an E63S estate over an RS6. Imo an RS7 or R8 would be a more desirable audi than an RS6 but then again never been a fan of estates in general.

For $25K less I'll take the Audi SQ8. Same platform, engine (but detuned but putting out 509 HP) and the torque is amazing! I was so impressed with the drive of the SQ8 that I
just ordered one that's due July/August 2021. Prestige Model, Matador Red, Black interior with gray stitching, Luxury Package, Titanium Carbon Vector Inlay, Black Optic Package,
Black Rings & Model Badge Kit, S-Beams- 4 doors, Sport Resonator Kit! The only problem I have it won't be here until July/August 2021 but the dealer did tell me it would more
than likely be a 2022 model. Either way I'm looking forward to a new great drive. Planning a trip up California Pacific Coast Highway to Washington state than down to las Vegas
for a few day stay and then home to Phoenix Arizona USA! Should be exciting and oh so much fun!!! Big Smile :)
