Northern California..Valley of the Kings, Mammoth area was a dark and Fiery place a few hundred years ago..
The Middle Earth map overlay to show the location of Mordor was a bit of a stretch, as none of it matched the terrain. Unless I'm overlooking something.
I believe but I could be wrong north america at Arizona and Mexico and coast line also lines up just as well as yours. So I'm definitely loving your work .
