In my opinion, Niles was a better psychiatrist than Frasier. He showed genuine care for his patients, spent hours talking to them, and holding group sessions while Frasier was more focused on his fame and would disregard his callers at times. Even when he hated his patients, he still respected them and helped when he can. Niles was deeply devoted to his ethical practice and this was a definite proof of that.
@callmeshlomo7035 yeah but it takes a lot of Frasier to get to those moments while Niles just has it immediately. When Frasier lost his job, he had a breakdown for not being famous when he knew he can get back into private practice anytime.

It’s weird how throughout his life, Niles was always in the shadow, always trying to live up to other people’s expectations, almost an emotionless android, slave to being pompous and stiff. However, in Daphne, he was finally allowed to be a human with emotions and himself. Even his relationship with his father became more established, their once strained closeness now without restrictions. I do love the show, but in realty, the Frasier Crane character is very toxic, not at all a particularly nice person, a psychotherapist by paper but selfish, self-absorbed and very arrogant person by nature, (I have two older siblings like that,)

Because in real life vvomen typically don't give guys like that the time of day. VVomen say that want a nice guy, but their actions say the complete opposite. While saying they want a nice guy, they simultaneously friendzone that nice guy & use him as an orbiter while she goes out & chases after the bad boy who won't commit to her. & then when the vvoman hits her 30's & the wall approaches, that is when she settles for the nice guy (beta provider) because she wasn't able to lockdown the bad boy she really wanted.
🤣🤣🤣 Oh PLEASE. I love Niles but get real. There's his habit of giving Daphne endless little gifts. He was always smelling her hair or finding excuses to look at her body. He dropped a necklace down her neckline so he could get a glimpse of her cleavage. He hung out at Frasier's condo constantly to be around her. He even videotaped her while she was sleeping during their Winnebago vacation without her permission. He came perilously close two times to sleeping with her when he was still married to Maris. Niles' interest in Daphne was plain and NOT innocuous. Today a lot of his early behavior would be considered pretty creepy.
I think Daphne is being a little hypocritical here. Because wasn't she also engaged to another man before she just randomly fell in love with a guy for whom she had no romantic feelings until she found out how he felt about her? In fact, Niles should be more leery of Daphne than she of him. At least he had those feelings for 7 years. She just changed her feelings on the flip of a dime. Well, okay, maybe not the flip of a dime. It was over the course of a few months, but still.
They almost hooked up twice prior. One of those times, in S1 A Midwinter Night's Dream, she seemed to show romantic interest more than sexual interest (it is the opposite in Daphne Hates Sherry) when she tells him she feels very close to him. The script states they are very close to kissing and that she could have been his if the clock had not interrupted. . The fact she dates a man very similar to Niles in Mixed Doubles is also a sign she harbors feelings for him. . It's more like once she finds out he's in love with her, her own feelings surface. There were many signs of chemistry between them through the years, signs that their friendship was closer than usual and probably had romantic overtones. It was in every season until S6 when she is with Donny. Visions of Daphne doesn't really count because it was a psychic thing and not something she was aware of. Almost eery season has at least 1 episode dedicated to the relationship between them, hinting at romance. You may also see the blowing smoke scene as flirting, she gets way into his personal space.
I think that throughout the entirety of the show before they got together Daphne had feelings for Niles but she never acted on them because he was married for the most part of that time and it was very personal in relation to Martin and Frasier
It's been explicitly stated by the cast including the actress who plays Daphne that she always had feelings for him, but didn't think she was good enough for him until learning he really was interested in her. I think that's the accurate interpretation. You can see her continued insecurity and feeling she's not good enough even after they get together, in episodes like this and Taking Liberties. So in a way it's almost like a reverse of what was obvious to us, playing out at the same time, with Daphne holding feelings for Niles but him not knowing. And for the audience it's left somewhat ambiguous with little hints here and there.
There was always something there. She almost slept with him on two occasions. The second one made it perfectly obvious what her intentions were until she had to go back for her pills. And she always went particularly out of her way for Niles and even picked a boyfriend who was an uglier, more uptight version of Niles. Plus, he was married for many years, therefore Daphne considered married or even separated men ‘off-limits’. And don’t forget, she had no reason to refer to the men she lived with as Dr.Crane and Mr. Crane, despite becoming practically family to them prior to hooking up with Niles, and even when they were engaged. She seemed to have formality issues. Frasier was Ros’s boss and she called him Frasier right from the start, and she didn’t live with him. Damn, I’ve probably watched this show too many times. 🙃
Exactly! & also consider Niles was the other man just the same as she was the other woman. Daphne was with Donnie when she decided to act upon her feelings for Niles & she left Donnie at the alter. So her argument that she feels like that other woman is hypothetical because Niles was also the other man.
@@jeremyweekes2126 No, the situations are not analogous, let's not pretend that they are. Daphne was with Donnie for a year and only slowly began to acknowledge her feelings for Niles as the relationship broke down for her. But Niles went through two marriages knowing that he was actually in love with Daphne the entire time. That's what has made her feel insecure. She's not blaming him; she's confessing her fear that she won't be interesting enough to hold onto him and he'll leave her. After all, he told Daphne he wouid leave Mel "in a heartbeat" if Daphne had the same feelings for him. That's not "blaming" Niles. It's Daphne once again feeling she's not good enough to keep him with her.
She's not rationalizing. She knows he'll be mad at her and has good reason to be. Daphne is trying to explain the fears that made her act in such an uncharacteristic way.

Andrew Chapman If not, it would make a great fanfic
This was really well acted by DHP.
Aww that's so cute
THAT MY FRIENDS IS LOVE
This episode was titled "The First Temptation of Daphne"
Thank you. Wouldn't have written it if I didn't believe it. Cars.
So we have something in common conversekid we can both sit here and pine over niles (even though dhp is gay) he'lls still the sweetest man on earth
Thank you 👍...🔥❤🔥
Someone will...I'm sure someone already does.
@kippis05 she was the one that talked daphne into seeing out she looks.
I WAN'T HIM XD
Why are there any guys like Niles ? 0o
This show was excellent, before Niles and Daphne--The Soap Opera
Total BS. She ran away from the altar not Niles. Niles never made a move on her while he was married.
🤣🤣🤣
Oh PLEASE.
Today a lot of his early behavior would be considered pretty creepy.
frasier was the longest-played role on tv, for over 20 years, longer even than guy arness of gunsmoke
I wonder if the SVU cast has beaten that record now.
Huh! I never looked at it that way but you have a point. I guess sometimes as women we do get away with a lot....
Translation: "I violated almost every bond of trust in this relationship, but it is still your fault." Nice spin move daphnee.
What episode is this from? It's such a sweet moment!
Oh i c.. nice..
Nice "rationalizing".
He SHOULD be mad at her.
She's not rationalizing. She knows he'll be mad at her and has good reason to be. Daphne is trying to explain the fears that made her act in such an uncharacteristic way.
redweasley and theatrecutie, D'ont be mean to niles, after all his years of putting up wit maris's crap he's entitled to look out for his career
