Yeah, I’ve got three I switch between. Leatt 4.0 Gravity for summer (vents galore plus normal warmer work commutes), TSG Pass for wetter conditions and when I want more protection (and colder conditions) I’ve got the Leatt 9.5. Skid lids are so bloody important. No healing a damaged brain.
All great points Chucka! weather is such a key to choice of gear, having a good summer/winter kit can make all the difference. The wrong mix of gear and weather means you’re reluctant to gear up. I had a very nice head injury a while ago, 40plus stitches in the top of my lid (another story for another day) Keep a good head on your shoulders is key i think. Cheers Chucka

I've been wearing a scorpion air fit vx 16 that I picked up from a motorcycle shop in Tennessee. So far, it seems like a nice helmet. It fits me fairly well, and it feels pretty lightweight. It's a motocross helmet so I need to get goggles for it.
I’m a big fan of moto gear, I know here they are certified and you can trust the level of protection I just picked up some new Leatt Goggles for my Leatt moto helmet, I’ll try it in the trails one of these days. Glad you are buying nice gear.
TSG isn’t rated for the speeds EUCs go. You need more than just abrasion resistance which is what the TSG is for. You need impact protection too, you can’t get that with the thin foam in the TSG helmets. Its a cool looking helmet but risking TBI and/or getting concussed are lifetime injuries. I’m not your mom but you are free to do what makes you happy but lets not pretend that the TSG is going to protect you at speeds faster than non electric skateboards can go. Helmets are designed to dissipitate energy so that force goes into the helmet and not the squishy bit between your ears. Saving your face is no good is you drooling on yourself in hospital for the rest of your days or worse severe TBI and realizing its never coming back. Its a free workd so do what makes you happy. If you are a part of the folks who wear pads that aren't actually impact rated. You shouldn't be surprised when you get hurt really bad. Physics doesn't care about your illusions of safety. Gear up properly or think about it while you heal. 2 kinds of riders. Those who have been hurt and gear up properly and those who wanna look cool but not gear up properly. That second type often quit riding after they heal up.
Totally agree the TSG is for looks. It would stop a scrape a little more than skin but not by much. I do wear better helmets, I have a few but sometimes I do relax it a little, at my own risk. I mostly always fully gear up and encourage that. You never know when something might happen. Thanks for watching

@@seancase3050 This is true, but when it comes down to it even the lowest motorcycle safety standards will have it beat. I do think that some people make too big of a fuss over its lower level of protection (and this comes down to one's personal choice and risk tolerance, as some people oft for an open-face helmet even at higher speeds). I do think it's important to note that downhill skate is also something where you usually have more controlled, lower traffic environment and it's often considered good practice to have spotters ahead of your route.
I want to advise that there is a big downfall for the open face helmets. I had a big accident on my Onewheel GT a few months ago. I was wearing FULL protection (at least I thought) with an open face helmet and goggles. When I went down, I went face first hitting the top brim of the helmet, it compressed and slid my goggles down my face causing an EXTREME laceration to my face. Be careful out there fellow riders!
Don't get those if you are doing anything high speed or even good enough speed to where you can fall and hit your head hard. There is a guy on here who has a video where he got into an accident with his begode Hero and he still got badly concused with one of those tsg helmets on. They are no go's
Hey Curt I agree. I think i’ll still wear the TSG as I’ll often commute at reasonable speeds. I am definitely leaning more towards the Shoei for the challenger especially when i can find places to open it up. Hope all is well in your world. Cheers!
The best helmet is the one you’ll wear. Shoei and other MC helmets are better for higher speeds, but for just a quick errand, it *might* be cumbersome, and you end up riding without any helmet at all... If you ride a lot at high speed and in traffic, get both if possible. MC helmets are designed for roads, while something like the TSG is much better suited if you ride with pedestrians for better vision and hearing, together with its lighter weight to prevent low-speed whiplash and neck strain.
Being in Qld the tsg lineup does not have the right certs to be legal. Don't get me wrong it's almost impossible to stick to the Qld laws for PMD's but an out of spec helmet is one that's not hard to pass.

Mostly the chin protection - but EVERYWHERE ELSE as well. TSG is better than that, but only if it hits the ground the correct way, the chin would pull up on the right impact. Plus it lacks padding. That’s where the Leatt and Shoei stand out. Good quality helmet is key at even low speeds, the wrong fall can knock you up a bit. Stay safe!

@eucaus I try to get the best possible gear that I can afford. It's a balancing act but I'm sure spending a little extra will pay off in the end.

Id agree, TSG is a great EUC and Eskate helmet, up to 30 mph, faster than that id consider a more robust helmet
