OMG!! You JUST saved my sanity!! I have been trying to set this up on a boat (I know, don't bash me) and I have been PULLING MY HAIR OUT!! I knew it was possible because I have seen it done! THANK YOU for posting this video!!!
i've been flying rc's for about 9 years and never needed differential thrust. I've got a build going on right now that has twin motors....needing differential thrust. Although I have a Gen 1 DX8, I was able to follow your video, step by step, and I now have differential thrust working. Awesome! Thanks for your video!!!
I tried this on the DX8 WORKED GREAT!!!! however I learned you can't do throttle cut! this was THE CLEAREST EXPLAINATION I HAVE EVER HEARD. THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR! Keep doing great videos!!
Steve I hope you can help me. I just setup differential thrush and have the same problem with throttle cut with Aux 1. It works just fine with the motor plugged into the throttle on my receiver. How did you get it to work on both motors? George
Very nicely done. I've watched a bunch of how to's on Tx setups and they are always hard to follow but your's was very clear . In addition this is exactly what I wanted to learn.
From the AMA Feb 2021 edition of the Model Aviation magazine, I've started the build of the model on the cover. It's called the Yin-Yang and your video is nothing short of awesome, and because the model doesn't have any rudder control, (it's solid), your video will help me with my dual motor, (one a pusher, the other a puller or tractor as you call it), differential thrust setup. You have helped me more that I can say and I thank you for taking the time to create one of the greatest and easy to follow videos, that I have ever viewed. Again, thanks for eliminating one giant headache for me and at the ripe old age of 82, (just had my birthday in January), the fewer problems I have to solve, the more time I have to enjoy my Golden Years and the RC hobby that I entered into about 6 years ago. THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!
This is exactly what I was looking for. I am about to begin a Grumman Goose build and I definitely would like to have differential thrust with this plane for control while it's on the water. Thanks for this perfect explanation and setup.
I just used this video to set up my hobbyking Lancaster (recently built a spare that I have had for years in the basement). I usually struggle with programming, thank you for making it easy and fun! hope to see more of these tutorials.
Every time I set up a new dual motor toy, I rewatch this video haha probably done it a dozen times now but I can never remember it all. Thanks man! Great video
It's an 11 year old foam semi scale kit which was designed for 400 size brushed motors and nicad batteries. My idea was to tart it up a little and over the years I have almost rebuilt the entire airframe, adding retracts, using brushless motors/ ESCs and lipos. as a result it has taken me too much time so far and I have decided that it needs to earn it's keep! Originally the rudders were to be fixed and I had plans to activate them, but the servos and linkages were going to add some unwanted weight at the wrong end of the airframe, so your info should allow me to gain some yaw control. I have connected the tail wheel to the rudder channel and now have the option of adding differential thrust for accurate ground handling/ taxiing. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for posting this tutorial I would have struggled by myself. Nice Guinea pig by the way. I am making a FT Master series p-38 and want rudder authority.
Great job Chris! Damn I would have never figured this out. I have a new Avios Albatross and need to set this up on my DX9 so I can water taxi without having a physical rudder in the water. EXCELLENT EXPLANATION. Subscribed!!!
Just picked up an Albatross, too! Bitchin' plane and my first twin and of course...needing differential as well! What rx did you use. I have a new 637T or a 9350 I can tear out of my big Carbon Cub. Trying to get my head around what I won't have if I use the 6 channel 637T.
As many have said, great tutorial on setting up differential thrust. I have an HU-16 Albatross, where both differential and reverse thrust would be interesting. I've learned a great deal about the DX6 transmitter, but I'm not sure how to reverse both motors with the flip of a switch and retain differential thrust as well.
I have the new DX8G2 and follow ya because there are NO VIDEOS for the DX8G2...GRRRRR so I'm writing to send you a HUGE THANK YOU because I tried following Josh from Flite Test and he has you putting the leads in port 5&6 and using a curve plus he was using a totally different TX. So again thank you so kindly Sir!!
I know it's an older post, but Thank-you.I have a DX8G2 that this will work on. Got the basics, but the mixes and channel assign are a bit of a black art to me.Much easier to see than read about it.
U R Awesome! Thank you very much! U saved me hours of frustration with this most excellent video. If U are not a teacher or professor you have another calling. My FT Guinea Pig will make its 1st flite WITH differential thrust and rates of +/- 125%. I cannot wait! The Spektrum DX9 Manual was of no help. U made it so easy. Thank you, again!
Chris, thanks for this video. I've accomplished Differential Thrust previously but it was UGLY. I just took my G44 Widgeon (twin engine seaplane) and bound to this...wham bam perfect.
Wow... I can't thank you enough for this clear, concise lesson! You just save me a whole lot of frustration and confusion (LOL, apparently at the cost of a a whole lot of frustration and confusion on your part!
So regular throttle is just both engines. Thats pretty awesome! Anyone that builds their own plane can use that. If you buy a twin engine plane, chances are, it already has a set up in the esc for thrust vectoring. If something happened and you needed to replace the electronics, this would be a great way to set up all new electronics in an older plane that has been sitting that you wanted to upgrade.
Thanks for the help! I am planning on building the FT guinea pig and wanted to know how so set up differential thrust before I went and bought the electronics.
Thank you so much Chris. Just excellent. My Flight Test Kraken is almost ready thanks to you. One note. My DX6 did not have and Aux channel as changeable. Figured out that the FLAPS channel is the same thing. If anyone is having difficulties because they can't use the aux, just substitute the word FLAP for Aux and you should be fine. I think it is a firmware change since Chris created this video?
Thanks! One thing to note, if you are using this configuration with a DX6e, don't use the Flap system. The flaps use Aux1 and you can't select it in the Input Config screen.
Roger Banks how do I make differential thrust work on the dx6e then? I’ve spent around 2ish hours searching for something but I simply just give up, do you have any idea?
3:50 is sOOooo my favorite part of this video because I say the same thing all the time haha THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! "oh its beautiful! that took me so long to figure out because I'm not very smart" haha love it so much I dont know how to put my emotions into a yt comment
Great tutorial. Very clear and easy to follow. Thanks. My question is this....I have an HU16 Albatross twin and it can reverse by switching my gear switch. Will your differential setup work with my setup? I want the differential to help turn the plane when taxiing only. The water rudder is very inefficient in anything over a 3 mph breeze. Thanks!!
Question as I'm trying to wrap my head around differential thrust (dt). Spectrum radio. #1 is the rudder still used in combination with dt. #2 do you put it on a switch to be one or the other? #3 Rudder always on with dt. on a switch. #3 I think this would be most practical as I don't think I would used it that much other than to do some crazy spins. Thank you for your time.
+Chris Stolle I took it a step further bc I noticed that throttle cut only killed one motor. I can now kill either motor, or both allowing me single engine taxi. I'll do a video reply later.
This is great video how would you go about reverse for a twin screw boat. I build a bait boat and never finished it because i couldn't set up the mixing. Thanks
Question, I want to use this to aid in taxing a seaplane. I would prefer to reduce the rpm of the inside motor when turning rather than increase the rpm of the outside motor. Is there a simple way to accomplish this? By the way, this worked great on my gen 2 DX8. Thanks.
OMG!! You JUST saved my sanity!! I have been trying to set this up on a boat (I know, don't bash me) and I have been PULLING MY HAIR OUT!! I knew it was possible because I have seen it done! THANK YOU for posting this video!!!

You must be a teacher. Fantastic instructions.
Spot on. I am a teacher! And I see you are a musician? I am as well.
Incredibly helpful 7 years later on my NX10 on a Flight Test G-44 Widgeon using a Spektrum AR630 receiver. Works perfectly! Thanks!

Thanks for posting this and making it easy to understand. This will be helpful for setting up my BushMule.
Chris, Thanks to your video, my understanding on this topic is much clearer! Thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays!
Great video! Worked perfectly for my 4 prop Lancaster. Love the simple step by step, easy to follow and understand:)))
Very nicely done. I've watched a bunch of how to's on Tx setups and they are always hard to follow but your's was very clear . In addition this is exactly what I wanted to learn.
Excellent job explaining how! i used this and had NO problems setting it up on the first try. i give it a 10!
Thanks for taking the time to upload that Chris. It is by far the best explanation I have seen and will use the info shortly. Mike.
Glad it could help!

And another great thanks for this video. really simple to follow and understand, just the way I like it :-)
Many thanks, Chris. Just the guidance I needed for my Lancaster with no rudders.
Lancasters are sweet! Scratch build or kit?
what a beautiful demonstration
Excellent explanation on the set up..I am beginning my build soon on the FT Guinea Pig..thanks for posting it..
Thanks for your help! No need for a water rudder anymore! I used this tutoring today to set up my PBY and aside from switched channels, I'm set.
Thanks so much. I needed that for my Avois Bushmule.
This was awesome. It also worked for the DX6e.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I am about to begin a Grumman Goose build and I definitely would like to have differential thrust with this plane for control while it's on the water. Thanks for this perfect explanation and setup.
Ron were you able to setup throttle hold for both motors?
I haven’t been able to get throttle hold to work on the motor plug into Aux 1.
Thanks a lot for this descriptive instruction for the DTh Setup! The best I could find so far.
Glad it helped
Thank you for the clear and coherent tutorial. I used it to program my large scale hovercraft!
Wow, that is cool!
I just used this video to set up my hobbyking Lancaster (recently built a spare that I have had for years in the basement). I usually struggle with programming, thank you for making it easy and fun! hope to see more of these tutorials.
lancasters are sweet planes!
So many thanks from france! You save me time and stress :)
Wow. Great video/instructions. I'm building a FliteTest P-38 and using a spektrum DX8 gen2. This Video saved the day!! Much obliged. ALB

Kind words!
Thanks brother just what I needed to know plain n simple 👍
Thanks for this great video, you my friend are a great teacher. You made it simple.
Worked great for the newer DX6e as well. Thanks!
Clearest explanation ever. Thank you.

Thanks for this. I have the DX6e and a sea duck in the mail. gunna be super easy slick thanks to your video.
Great video, clear and concise!

Nice Guinea pig by the way. I am making a FT Master series p-38 and want rudder authority.
Did this on my AL37 Airliner with my DX8G2. I used aux 2 since aux 1 is for flaps. Thanks for the video. Just have the throttle trim centered.
Thank you! This was incredibly helpful.
Well done! Simplicity at its best
Thanks Dan!
Great job, works with DX8e also. First try works perfectly!! With the 8ch I was able to keep the flaperons

Thanks so much - this is an amazing explanation of how to do this!!!!
Glad it helped.

Great thanks, Mr. Stolle.
I used this on the DX6E and took me 5 minutes to get a working twin plane. Awesome !
5 minutes? Not fair. Took me hours to figure out.
World is full of unfairness, Mr Stolle. But it's nice to know that somewhere on earth there is someone who is very grateful to you. :-)
Best reply ever!
Please confirm the full model name
Chris Stolle Sir, please confirm this differential thrust settings can be done in Futaba T6K 6 Channel 2.4GHz T-FHSS
Thank you very much. I was looking for this because I was making my own ft guinea pig. I made mine look like a coast guard c-130.
Thats cool. Any links? I would love to see that.
Soon still getting the final decals on

Cool, I think you need to not only increase the motor on motor x but also reduce the opposite motor. Much smoother and you can still steer at WOT
Excelent tutorial man!!
Thankyou you have saved me!
Thank you so much I now have my jet flying beautifully
Glad it could help
Add another Sea Duck to the list! Thanks a lot for your walkthrough.
