In my place, we entered deep winter. The temperatures are very low and I am hurrying with the work to finally install the wood stove. Another week or two and I hope to be able to light a fire and enjoy my stone cabin with tea and my faithful friend. This video will show you how I put a vapor barrier on the walls insulated with rock wool and how I closed the walls with pine wood that I bought at a local sawmill. To protect the wood, I decided on linseed oil because of the matte effect it gives and the pleasant smell.

Luxon, i grew up watching This Old House 🏠🏡 #askthisoldhouse rebuilding historic homes of the past and presant. Your craftsmanship traits are amazing how each board fits together like a puzzle. The interior semi gloss natural wood looks gorgeous, like a log cabin and the exterior is rock.

I have followed you journey on this project from the beginning. It gives me great joy to watch you save a 66 year old structure back to more than its original purpose. We live in West Virginia USA in an old structure that we restored built in the 1800s. You will feel a warmth that most people will never experience in their lifetime. Watching you take the time to chisel out parts and fit details I see you taking the time and effort to make things solid that will last, not rushing towards the finish line with sloppy work. Sad how just a hundred years or so ago, a man would be doing exactly this, building a home for his wife and future family by hand, step by step. Nowadays it's all pre-fab slapped together as quick as possible. A construction company is building a new home in my neighborhood, and it's all machinery and noise, everything as cheap and fast as possible. Meanwhile, houses here built less than 20 years ago are cracking, sliding down the hillside with foundations that need to be repaired already. Your house survived decades abandoned because it was built with skill and love from the start, and you're making it a home again the same way it was first built.
Can't wait to see it finished, you and your wife (and Lajka too of course) can spend many happy years there in peace and quiet, away from the madness that is the "modern" world. Brilliant work as always brother!

I have taken to calling the old place "Old Number 57" in honor if its original build date. You have definitely saved it from being lost to time by breathing new life into it. If this is going to be a property you keep as your own then it will bring you many years of joy. And if not then it will bring that same joy to who ever is lucky enough to purchase it. The transformation is really looking nice! It already seemed so cozy inside while the wind blew outside. Imagine what it will be like when you have furniture and your wood stove. Or, a giant beanbag chair (probably don’t take design advice from me though😂) up in the loft, where you can sit near the skylight and watch a raging blizzard while you are warm and comfortable. What a peaceful existence.

Luxon--you always impress me so much. Watching you work is like ASMR. I think that is the right word to call it. I watch you and I try to learn and work out what you are doing and why and they say you're supposed to "feed" your brain as you get older to keep dementia and Alzheimers away. So this year I've started playing games and when I watch stuff like your vids, I try and suss out details of what you're doing. It is so amazing how relaxing it is to watch you work. I am an introvert and alone time is a must for me so you doing your videos with no talk and no music is even better. I'm thinking you need to list your videos under good health maintenance among other things lol. I've said it before, but thank you for teaching me and for looking after an ole ladies health lmao.
