    I left the tutorial village of Skalitz only after I was level 3-5.
    I picked _all_ the herbs in the entire town, increasing many of my stats in the process. Picking a lot of Nettles, for example, gave me a vitality bonus, because Nettles are "poisonous". I also improved Strength and leg-strength by picking the herbs. I would sell off as much as I could, and then just drop all the excess, as you don't have a horse yet and potential buyer's are limited.
    I improved my unarmed combat (as well as stats) by punching all the cows ( knocking them out/killing them, but they will eventually return, although be careful you're not seen doing this by wandering villagers. It's not as easy doing this with sheep, as they run away too fast, so more time is spent herding than punching.
    I practiced stealth, knocking out wandering villagers (Deutch has good gear to sell later), picking up a bit of gear to wear and (mostly) sell, although as some was marked stolen I kept it to sell later.
    I did most of this _before_ collecting the beer for the trip home, as that part is timed, and will eventually lead to the cut scene of the village attack.
    The point is, do whatever you can, before leaving Skalitz. Oh, and as I played on console, "saving" by sleeping/using a Savior Schnapps wasn't possible/viable, I would often do so by "save and exit to menu"; a little tedious, but better than losing a lot of progress by doing a forced reset. In fact, while playing the game I have almost never used a Savior Schnapps, but just exit save...hundreds, and I mean hundreds of times.
    Anyway, that's what I can remember of my early gameplay, and maybe it will help new players get a jumpstart on the game.

      I may be a little late but if you put the stuff you were stealing from the folks in skalitz in the chest in your home they will stay there until you return later on when you burry your parrents. Just take every item out of the chest BEFORE you dig the grave. After you wake up in rattay you can find all your items in the chest next to your bed and they are ready to be sold. (Just make sure that you save before taking everything out of your chest in skalitz because there is a bug where some stuff might vanish when you go to rattay)

      I learned the hard way that "Save & Exit" is not a true save. If you reload after, say, a mistake, the game doesn't take you back to your last Exit Save. It takes you to your last Sleep or Schnapps Save. Save & Exit only serves for returning after an exit.

    Late tip, at level 0 alchemy, number of bellow pulls does matter when considering boiling as you have mentioned in this video, but at high enough alchemy skill (not with perk) the bellow equates to one pull per one turn (boiling/not)

    It is really useful to hunt with your dog since it increases the hunting and houndmaster at the same time and also increases the hound obedience. After catching game I give one meat piece as reward (increase obedience too). I prefer to increase archery on contests since the arrows are free. After some practice one can even use the contest as a form of revenue as the advanced one rewards Henry with 270$.

Stealth kill the sentries if i can. Pickpocket the sleeping guys. If they wake up, they'll probably run away. Let em run, hide, and they'll come back and go back to sleep. • @Embrachu
      @Embrachu 2 роки тому +1

      Just fire an arrow and back up a good distance. The target will run to where you had first fired, and if you're back far enough, and eventually your stealth improves (and your gear visual/conspicuousness/noise is low enough) they won't detect you, so "rinse and repeat". To kite targets, just fire an arrow near them, if your aim isn't quite great yet, to draw them out from groups. And avoid shooting into thick groups of enemies, to avoid drawing out too many.

    something I've learned personally is, you've only need to follow the potion script for the first time. then after that most of the potion doesn't need more than 3 bellows, also no need to wait for cool down. just wait till boiling action is done and drop your ingredients. btw the marigold potion doesn't even need boiling just put water and dump the herbs and collect it in vial.

    Alchemy is a lot simpler than you described it. Cook, simmer, boil etc are all the same. Just pull once on the bellows to heat for one turn. When cool pull once again for second turn etc as required. No need to use the pointless hour glass.

    • @Halcylion
      @Halcylion  3 роки тому

      Are you sure alchemy is as easy as you described it BEFORE obtaining that perk which allows you to make mistakes when brewing potions? (it's called "Trial and Error" I believe)
      Because without that perk, if I brew potions without following the exact steps, I either fail the brewing process entirely or I make fewer potions than I would if I followed the instructions outlined in the recipe.
      But of course, this all becomes irrelevant once you obtain the Routine perk which allows you to autobrew 3 potions at once.

    • @Forester-qs5mf

    Alchemy is the best skill. It’s profitable, boosts other skills, and can be applied at the very beginning of any play through. The Lazarus potion is the most expensive so I’m always filling my pockets with comfrey. Neuhof is a great place to find it but you can also find woodland gardens or walk along rivers. Even the river outside Rattay will give up comfrey if you follow it west. Valerian is found almost anywhere so I’m not worried about looking for it.

      first pull begins the warm up, second confirms it. Third should begin boiling, 4th confirms boiling. After that, pull 5 adds another full turn of boiling, and the 6th adds another, for a total of 3 turns.

    Why don't they make it in more languages?

    • @Halcylion
      @Halcylion  4 роки тому +1

      Because the marginal profits they would make (from those who don't understand the available languages) can barely cover the cost of hiring translators and voice actors for every quest in the game. In Romania for example, only the poor and uneducated need things dubbed to them in romanian, because the rest of us speak at least one other language: english, french, german or russian. A romanian dub would only benefit that small percentage of people who aren't capable of paying for the game anyway, so why spend time, money and effort to translate your game for them?
      The only way I see this game translated is with a mod that lets you change the subtitles, and a community that volunteers to translate the game in their language, for free. The voice would still be english, but the subtitles can be in whichever language the community bothered to translate to. Even this would be a massive endeavor, since this game has thousands of lines of dialogue. It would take about the same effort as translating 10 seasons of some TV show...
      In a nutshell: it's not worth it.

      No need to ever use a Savior Schnapps, if you don't want to. I assume you're playing on console, where we've no access to mods like they have on pc, so just "save and exit to menu". A little tedious, but you can do this kind of save forever and it costs nothing but a little bit of time to "continue". If something doesn't go your way then you'll need to reset the game, but "save and exit to menu", followed by "continue" has been my method from day one. Eventually you don't need to do this as often, when your skills improve.

    wrong you do NOT need to read the rezept to brew the potion. if you know what you need and to do (or just experiment) you can brew the potion and will unlock the rezept that way. or you can just look on the internet if you lazy. also the sandclock is usless. if it says cook for 2 turns u just need to heat 2x and you done. if you get a higher alchemie skill or pick the perk thats allows you to get more fails you can exploit this to skip some steps in the brewing process like heating.

    • @Halcylion
      @Halcylion  5 років тому +6

      Um... everything you say is true. It's also what I say at various points throughout this very same video. I have rewatched it and I'll give you the exact timestamps where I say the things you mentioned.
      First things first: Do not misinterpret what I'm about to say as anger or anything like that. I'm trying to make things absolutely clear. With that said, I do not disagree with anything you've said, I'm merely stating that I've said the exact same things throughout this video. English may not be your first language, and if you have some trouble understanding some of the things I've said, you might have missed some of the points I've made. Hell, english is not my first language either, and because I mispronounce some things, it may be even more difficult to understand me at times.
      All right, your first point: you do NOT need the recipe for the potion. But a new player has a choice: either he can do the immersive thing and obtain a recipe, read it and apply the instructions to brew his potion; OR alt-tab from the game and read a lousy wiki. Another option would be to remember how to brew a potion, but how can he remember if he never read the instruction or the wiki?
      Now, initially I did say you NEED the recipe, and I was partially wrong. You still need it to automatically place all the ingredients for that particular potion; And then, I had to explain the instructions, in case people want to read those instead of the wiki. Where do I say that? 16:33 I mistakenly say that you need to read the recipe and without it you fail. As I say that, I overlay the text INCORRECT over it, and immediately after, at 16:40 I correct myself and say that recipe is not an absolute requirement. It's still preferred you have it though. 16:59 - I confirm that you DO NOT need the recipe and can brew any potion even on a new character, as long as you follow the precise instructions. 17:10 - I say it again, loud and clear. I like repeating stuff I say, to make things crystal clear for people who might not understand it the first 2 times I've said it.
      Second point of yours: Hourglass being useless. That's what I said while explaining the brewing process 13:13 , pay attention to the words: "Instructions tell you to boil it for 3 turns. 1: you CAN measure it with the hourglass (CAN means it's entirely optional, and it can help you) OR you can follow my guidance, but for that I will explain the 3 stages of cooking" Then I go at length telling you how many times you have to pull the lever to reach the turns you need. Then, at 14:15 , I say you CAN verify with the hourglass (again, "can" means it's optional).
      As for the third thing you've said, I don't think I've mentioned that one. I believe, around the 24:00 minute mark, I said: " I can talk about the perks in game but you can read them by yourself, because I don't want to make the video longer than necessary" .
      With this essay written, I'd like to thank you for the feedback though.

    wow, I did not know you can que up boiling turns. go figure. 150 hours and I never knew.
    I want to return the favor: you can brew without beeing able to read. you can even autobrew without going to read. I just did a no reading playthrough. Although you can read recipies without beeing able to read, the book will be gibberish. but remembering the recipie (or googling it) will allow you to brew it and you can even let the game write it into your book as well.
