That or another explanation is they got chopped by Green Day, with the scalpel used in cutting up Ciocolatta since it was by all his other medical stuff.
I completely forgot that Giorno’s Punch wasn’t as effective cause the dude is so drugged up he can’t feel his missing limbs, Giorno probably helped wear off the effects quicker tho.

in regards to scalpels interacting and hurting sex pistols. it's understandable people would think sex pistols getting hurt by a none stand thing is a error but its not. the first stand battle ever, jotaro uses toilet water to put out stand flames. the first time they meet polnareff, joseph mechanical hand clashes with his sword. there was that time where that vampire bit down on star platinum arm, it didn't pierce, i'm assuming because he wasn't strong enough. then dio reflects emeralds splash with his hands. in part 4 okuyasu grabs the lock on koichi with his hands. in part naranicia grabs his stand radar, bruno and illuso have grabbed moody blues. in the grateful dead beach boy battle, mista shoots at pecis stand and it phases through and redirects the pain back, peci doesn't say it didn't work because it's a stand, just that he could not hurt it like that. in the manga you even see the bullet bend the string before it phases through. non stand, stand interaction has always been a thing. basically it's like how most stand users think once the user dies so does the stand but that's not always the case. they think stands can't be effected by none stand things but that's not the case. araki even directly alludes to stand users just being ignorant when it comes to stand/none stand interaction when illuso says only stands can grab stands yet after that he grabs on moody blues. just because a character says something about how a stand works doesn't mean it's always the case. like that time where i believe it was joseph in part3 who said the reason none stand users could see the orangutans stand ship was because of how big/powerful it was but that wasn't it, at the end of the battle, we see the ship shrink into a boat. that was the first bound stand. when we see none stand objects phasing through stands, i'm pretty sure they're just in phase mode like how jotaro used in part 3. some stands don't know how to do it like sex pistols, some stands are just naturally in that state like hollys stand. it's always been a thing.

people in series think it's a rule that always implies but that's simply not it. did you even read my comment? they thought stands not being seen by none stand users was a rule for all. they thought stands going away when the user dies was a rule for all. they thought whatever attack you do to a stand always goes back to the user was a rule for all.
