      Actually you do NOT have to use sulfuric acid!...i have rebuilt many old batterie's using an (epsom salt) solution, it work's very well, and last's more than 2 year's easily...i like your charcoal idea, as long as it's a good quality carbon source it will conduct electricity very well!...

    AI answer... Yes, it is indeed possible to make a battery using lead plates, active carbon, and acid. This kind of hybrid battery is known as a Lead Carbon Battery.
    A Lead Carbon Battery combines the high energy density of a lead-acid battery and the high rate capabilities of supercapacitors. This makes these batteries excellent for applications that require both high energy density and high power density.
    Here is a very simplified description of how a lead-carbon battery works:
    1. It has two electrodes: one made of lead dioxide (PbO2), the positive plate, and the other made of active carbon and lead (Pb), the negative plate.
    2. The electrolyte is usually a sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solution, as is standard in lead-acid batteries.
    3. When the battery is discharged, the lead dioxide (PbO2) on the positive plate and the lead (Pb) on the negative plate react with the sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to create lead sulfate (PbSO4) and water (H2O). This reaction releases energy.
    4. When the battery is recharged, the reverse reaction occurs. The lead sulfate and water are converted back into lead dioxide, lead, and sulfuric acid. This process stores energy in the battery.
    The use of active carbon in the negative electrode increases the battery's power performance by increasing the surface area for the chemical reactions. This means that energy can be delivered more quickly than in a traditional lead-acid battery. Moreover, the active carbon can help to reduce the sulfation of the lead plates, a key reason for the failure of lead-acid batteries, which makes the lead-carbon battery more durable and reliable.
    Please note that this is a simplified version of the chemistry and reactions involved, and in practice, creating a battery involves careful control of the materials, conditions, and safety considerations. Working with lead and acid can be dangerous, so it's important to have the proper knowledge and protective equipment before attempting to make a battery.

If the old acid is used, the charcoal can be made for next to nothing then this possibly is worthwhile but I would need to research how much energy is required to charge. Charging to boiling point dosn't sound good!

    • @ekeretteekpo3004

      You can assemble those finger sized lithium ion batteries which your can find rated 3.7V at 2000mAh (2Ah). There are some with a higher amperage up to about 8000mAh. If you can find these, you can work out the math for the setup you want to build, and determine how many of such batteries you'll need - first in series, then in parallel. Be sure to test out your purchases before connecting them.
      To expatiate, if you're looking to make a 12V battery system from the 3.7V/2Ah, simply connect three in series to get 11.1V at 2Ah. 4 in series will be overkill and the batteries will suffer overcharging due to the unavailability of suitable charge controllers, unless you can get a variable charger sort of. Experimentally, 3 of such batteries in series work for a 12V system. If you're gunning for a 24V system, then a set of seven in series will suffice. Once you have gotten the required voltage in series, you can place them in parallel to the amount of amperage you want. For example, if you want a 12V/100Ah setup, you will have at least 50 rows of the threes mentioned above that are at 11.1V/2Ah as the amperage adds up for cells connected in parallel while voltage adds up for cells connected in series. Fifty rows of threes mean 150 cells each. Of course, this will be way cheaper than a LiFePO4 battery but could provide similar function, just that you will have to apply a lot of caution and probably build it with the potential hazards in mind.

    • @ekeretteekpo3004
      @ekeretteekpo3004 11 місяців тому

      Be mindful of the fact that lithium does not like to be overcharged, so you will have to apply a battery management system to control its charging and discharging. Such circuits can bought online, and they can be easily configured.
