OMG! Thanks for pointing out what those little carbon things were with the picture. I just had a corded drill burn out on me so I dissected it and saw those exact things you pictured and now I know what they are, so I know what I can use them for. You Rock!
😊
Verry very cool brother xD keep the good work up, also my first time seeing u talk fr
I loved how excited he got when the battery worked, we need more of that genuine excitement for science and expérimentation 🎉
that is galvanized steel, (then it will be a zinc-air battery) aluminium looks like the heatsinks on your LEDs, aluminium air gives out about 2 volts per cell, and tends to fall quickly as hidroxides block the cell.
its certainly Zn galvanized steel, and I guess that battery lasted for 20 minutes. its like 12um Zn max on it, and it goes so fast
Nice to see you all participating.
The anode metal i used is aluminum. It looks like that because i started working on air batteries around 3 months back, and that's when i poured Koh on it because of which it lost its shine.
Yes, i also tried aluminum heat sinks as the electrodes, and i got the same result as I am showing here. Same for the aluminum line cables as electrodes.
For me, Vmax was 1.7v per cell in one of my experiments under some very specific conditions. It's not shown in the video.
@@orionbetelgeuse1937i want to DIY a rechargeable battery, which have big capacity, and have long last cell, also easy to find / make cell materials... but, i don't have chemical knowledge... would mind to assist?
@@deeinmann How many centimeters do carbon brushes measure?
@@ambuyshare3340 dunno... but i think it relates to amperage
Very Nice. Thanks for sharing
Your work was great, we are waiting for the next video🇮🇷🇮🇳
nice electricity project, really interesting
VERY COOL, DO YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF GAS THAT THE ALUINIUM GIVES OFF
AS IT IT CONSUMED ?
Hydrogen
Good progress man keep up the great work
Where do you get air battery if you use an electrolyte?
Nice 👌
I think you should make another design where cathodes and anodes will be much closer
Ok
Or one can find a method for reducing the hydrogen emission by modifying the electrolyte.
Yeah, my initial reaction was to laugh but, hell, you're on to something there!
@@MrElectron less h release would be Byproduct of lower output, would it not?
If excess heat from existing heat sources with excess can develope reduction of the aluminum
Nice video, keep it up, thanks :)
Very good, how long did the charge last feeding the leds?
Upcoming
please make videos on motor generators power station as u had done previously😢
Ok

😅
Would you possibly know how does Naoh compare to koh for electrolyte in these cells? I know it's simple enough to convert one to the other but just wondering for simplicity's sake. I can find Al and graphite on the streets picking up scrap all day and can buy a lb of Naoh at Wally world for ~6$ just koh is slightly less accessible
Btw meant to say ty for such a great concise video this would make a great cell for an emergency situation with the availability of these components. Keep up the good work.
What is the name of the liquid you added in it?
Koh aqueous solution
Distilled water boss
In case you're not chemically literate koh is potassium hydroxide. It's some pretty caustic stuff there be careful if you haven't dealt with it before.
Salt water
👍verry good 👍thank's
Use large buckets, aluminium plates and charge you cell phone :D
You haven't connected any load to measure the current 😅
You made a good DIY battery, I am confused as to how the carbon brushes are working as air cathode? Also it would be better if there was a non caustic electrolyte as we know much anode material is lost due to reacting and releasing H2.
Can you easily buy Koh powder in a tub in your local shop, we don't have it nearby? Thanks 👍
I'm no chemist but as I understand it, you'll have to mix the pot hydrochloride powder w distilled water which, after double checking my math, would make the hydroxide. Dunno if you can get it premixed. I do know someone who's in the know, tho. Starts w an A & ends w a zon. Tell em Troy sent ya. 😁
Thanks! Video about the same is coming tomorrow or the day after. Yes its easy to buy koh here.
Thanks for sharing for your bright idea about cell battery and we are been interested and padticipate as in commenting,..in my comment why you called it air battery? and my thought you make 1 cell that produce an output of 4.2 volts, thanks anyway and keep strive friend👍
"air" ? (since it uses potassium hydroxide for an electrolyte, it seems like an alklaline battery)
Lovely build brother, 1 question, won't the hydroxide environment eat up aluminium faster? Also at the end of cycle how much aluminium can be recovered from the oxides?❤ enjoyed the build
Yes it will eat up the aluminium but in the coming parts, i will share the remedy on how to avoid that. I still have to gather info on the recovery process.
@@MrElectron That's so great to hear from you, I wish we could connect, I build lithium batteries for multipurpose applications, I have been your suscriber for many years, enjoy your videos, Actually you can make a whole series of videos on aluminium air battery, using different electrolytes like, neutral, alkaline, hydroxide you already used, but even with hydroxides potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide both will have different voltages All the very best brother
Purple light is actually uv light its not brighter
what about using hydrogen peroxide instead of distilled water
Bro try to use pencil ✏️😅
It's also available carbon must use 10hb😅 fevercassil
Very interesting looking forward to more exploration on this battery
Very good job guys, I'm glad to see
Is the best friend,,,thank you.
It's a great idea but, coming up with a battery that doesn't need replenishing/maintenance, or at least not for a long time would be the Holy Grail of batteries. Is that even possible?
Fake!
Nice
I bought it online
good work
Ingredient for cathode Aluminum, ingredients for the anode, activated carbon, manganese dioxide ,iron oxide, and graphite. Anode current collector can be either copper foil or steel.separator can be paper towel or cloth. Outer wrap should be made of something oxygen permeable but water tight like tyvek. Electrolyte can be either potassium aluminum sulfate or potassium hydroxide. The alum based version will need some current to kick start the reaction but will store for a long time, the potassium or sodium hydroxide version will self start but is use it or lose it. This version can be made dry to be activated by water at a later date. ❤
Hi, very interesting experiment, how long does such a battery last? And are potassium hydroxide and caustic soda the same thing, called something different?
Thanks . No, potassium hydroxide is caustic potash
@@MrElectron Ok, thx pour votre réponse 👍

h20 + koh + aluminium = hydrogen gas ...this is how we make H gas in high volumes very quickly! Safer, less reactive to use sodium sulphate?
The problem with this battery is the aluminium will be destroyed by the electrolyte very quickly no matter if you draw current or not. Probably you should remove the hydroxide electrolyte when the battery is in storage.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Well the first thing I noticed makes me not want to watch the rest of the video is that's not aluminum that's galvanized coated steel that you're cutting and calling aluminum therefore what would the battery be
This is really great, aluminum-air batteries look incredibly promising, i appreciate you providing excellent information on it.
I have a question though, are the three carbon brushes per cell necessary? What would be the effect of less? Are you mostly just trying to get more surface area?
I can't want to test this chemistry myself, but i'm tinkering with zinc-iodine batteries right now, i dont want to get too far ahead of myself!
I'm glad you liked it! Yes, it's the surface area. All the best with your zinc iodine battery research. I, too, will look into them.
@@MrElectron thank you! I wish you the best as well! I was in a bit of a stall with my project, not knowing how to proceed, but you inspired me and gave me new ideas with your first Aluminum-Air testing cell.
Keep on tinkering! You're making the world a better place and I strive to do the same!
Thank you for these honorable words 😊😊😊.
Wwoow,,so it worked without charging it??❤
Yes 😊
@@MrElectron thanks
This is not aluminium. Is galvanized steel
Came to the comments to say that.
I was about to comment the same
nice idea 👍

Koh eats aluminium to form aluminium oxide
Thanks bro for showing a working air battery
Merci
Video is coming soon.
Limon kömür alüminyum folyo ile yapılmıştı
try carbon fiber cloth instead, much simpler to use, resistance of graphite cloth is very low, close to zero, same as those brush carbon blocks. baking soda works even better, for aluminium-air and is non-toxic. also baking soda reacts less with the aluminium, mostly removing the aluminium oxide only, very different to potassium hydroxide, which actively produces hydrogen from the aluminium.
Thanks for the tip!
You are most welcome 😊
What is the electrolyte used here , didn't mention
Its mentioned @4:42
This does not seem to be an Al Air battery, just a redox battery.
Nice
dV must be under 1.2V to avoid elettrolisis
Nice
It must be called aluminium carbon battery. What role air has to play here😅😊
Oxidation of aluminum 😊
pls the 3d print of the mode.....pls
Awesome!
You should wear gloves when handling Caustic soda ( Sodium Hydroxide) as it is very corrosive.
I know but its difficult to operate my camera with gloves on.
Congrats
it is a pity that this battery cannot be charged, but unfortunately in water solutions with aluminum it is impossible
Do everything the same. Use zincate for electrolyte. Amperage will increase with firm contact between anode and cathode with paper separator. Thanks
Tưởng thế nào. Nửa thế kỷ trước người Việt Nam dùng "công nghễ này rất phổ biến ở miền Bắc. Nhôm làm điện cực là xác máy bay Mỹ.
You might be gaining better electrical conductivity with using carbon brushed but your sacrificing surface area
Why dont use another electrolyte type ? KOH is very reactive to aluminium, it will release h2 gas, as losses power..
KOH dissolves aluminum.
Good job!
Im gonna make one for my video is it ok
Sure
@Mr Electron thanks I appreciate you I'm making it next month
the aluminum will be gone in no time.
You have aluminum plates
Why is it called an "Air Battery" ?
Because of its consumption of oxygen
Is mizing friend
This is no where near 'Air- Aluminium Battery', the KOH will consume the Aluminium faster than you can use it for a reasonable purpose😂😂
It is not rechargeable it is copy of a wall clock cell.
This battery will need to charge also when it's lobat
Nice work 👍
Thanks 👍
Is the plate of positive side copper plate ?
Please, reply to me
