Thank you so much for this! I have even had my vet tell me to feed my cat dry food for this very reason. I was so disappointed to know that was the level of comprehension and research my vet had put into pet dental care.

I like the combination of kibble and fresh food. The crunchy food is good for dogs.

Can someone help me with dental cleaning tips? Please. My little dog doesn't let anyone go near his mouth or he'll bite you hard. I do yearly dental cleaning atthe vet, but I don't want yearly Anesthesia if I can find a better way to clean his mouth safely at home without him wanting to rip my hands off.
Maybe a healthy additive to the water?
My 16 yr old miniature dachshund has to have all her teeth pulled. I was diligent about her dental health, but the decay took over so quickly within the last year. My vet was very honest and told me that they do one small component on dental care in vet school. She referred me to a dog dentist who specializes in dental surgery. My vet said the dog dentist will be way more efficient which means my pup will be under anesthesia for a much shorter time. Sadly, I did feed kibble for many years, which did not help 😕.

Hey, I’ve noticed that you’ve been referring to the same veterinarian as an expert. Would you consider speaking to another veterinarian? Varying opinions are important but to be honest, she hold views that are clearly inline with your dog reading philosophies but is counter to the current gold standard for a reason. If you want to do a service to an audience, educate them. In this case, dental diets do play an important role in a patients dental care. Not many owners are able to successfully brush their animals teeth and like with humans, we don’t recommend to wait until their office visit for their yearly cleaning. It should be happening daily. Dental diets are not the only recommendation. If your dog does not chew their food, the diet will be of no use. In that case, a water additive, a brushing kit, etc should be discussed. For any owners curious ask about what products have been effective. -4th year vet student.
She has this vet on because they both promote a more natural and holistic approach, not the conventional stuff your learning in vet school. Maybe consider leaning in the direction of holistic veterinary medicine, more animal owners are heading in that direction after learning the we've been lied to about all these things we need to give to our pets. It's called Big Pharma. And what they're "programming" in to you in their schools.
